I thought I bring this topic back as I feel they just so boring now with the amount of vlogs they uploading and the length with there moaning and saying the same things multiple times over again with then Charlotte repeating the same lines like it’s been scripted. The last Asia vlog I watched was the Tokyo dome city and then I lost interest in the series.

I hear you. Never been a fan in general but the small amount of video is I have seen by this pair are more boring then watching England play.

I, for one, really enjoy their content and look forward to it. Finding them on YouTube during Covid is what has sparked my interest in the theme park industry and why I’ve ended up making my way to this forum.

I don’t see the need to post negative comments where they can’t see or respond to them. It’s not really fair.

Isn't that going against freedom of speech and the point of a forum? On the same basis you could argue there is no need to post positive comments where they can’t see them?

Imagine how bored they are when they have to go to Towers for the 17,000th time to vlog about a re-packaged summer event (for instance) for the 900th time and have to pretend to still be interested/excited about any of it. I imagine it's a bit of a chore nowadays.

It's a publicly accessible thread, on a well established theme park enthusiast forum. The thread has the title "Theme Park Worldwide".

You do not need an account to view this thread. You do need an account to reply. As far as I'm aware, neither are banned or prevented from making an account to respond to comments on this thread if they wished.

I'm more than certain that one, or both, of them will have Google Alerts set up for the phrase "Theme Park Worldwide", at the very least. They will get an email the moment the Google spider bot notices a change to this page.

Your logic would dictate that any critique toward John Burton, for his "artist" comments earlier this year, on the Nemesis thread shouldn't have happened.

Your logic would dictate that discussion around Glastonbury, on the newly established Glastonbury thread, shouldn't happen because Emily Eavis isn't an active member.

Your logic would dictate that the Doctor Who thread couldn't feature honest reviews about episodes, or the direction of the show, because Russell The Davis isn't part of this community.

Let's not forget that the content of the Theme Park Worldwide channel is literally walking around themed attractions and reviewing and discussing them on YouTube. Arguably a place where the attractions themselves cannot see the content, or have the right to reply, by your own definition. If this is fair, why isn't a discussion here?

They have decided to make themselves public figures. They have decided to publish content online. Content which is targeted toward this community and this forum. As long as the discussion is about their content, or professional conduct whilst making that content, I cannot see the problem with discussing it in a public forum.

I would be inclined to agree if @Themeparksandy1981 had said something defamatory, mean spirited, or nasty, but they didn't. They posted that Theme Park Worldwide's content appeared tired, that the format needed tweaking. Simply that the "show" isn't up to standard, or good, anymore in his opinion. This is exactly the type of discussion we have about all other sorts of content all over the forum.

As long as members stick to the rules, and don't make things personal, we're all groovy.

I used to like watching TPWW when I was getting back into things, but his videos are getting so long these days, and I personally don’t want to see POV of everything as it spoils the surprise.

I want to know where the best food is, what the merch is like, what’s a good strategy for queues, are the shows/events any good.

Also, some videos Charlotte looks like she’s knackered and fed up. Maybe give it a rest on those days? Nobody wants to see someone on a decent holiday looking miserable.

To be fair I don’t really see them moaning a lot.

What you get is a balanced opinion based on the attraction, it’s difficult for Vloggers (that’s a sentence I never thought I’d say but anyway) because if they criticise something then people will say they’re moaning, but if they’re too affluent in their praise they’re accused of being so positive because they’re getting freebies/access to opening events etc.

Of course the above criticisms do apply to some vloggers but I can’t say from what I’ve watched of TPWW that I’ve ever found their criticism or praise of anything in particular to be unreasonable, I don’t, personally, think that it comes across as scripted either and I’m usually quite sensitive to that sort of stuff as it’s a real pet hate of mine.

The longer videos are mostly the parks that he’s unlikely to visit again in the near future. They document them in much more detail. It’s a good move as they are very accessible, so if you happen to be planning a trip to pretty much any theme park, TPWW tend to have at least one vlog covering it

The videos for parks they visit more frequently are often shorter

Something's got to pay for their upcoming wedding! 🤣

I don't watch all of their videos, only really the Towers ones because Shawn is still one of the only vloggers out there who'll notice and comment on the little things like new bins, new tarmac or a lick of paint here and there. And he'll do it sensibly, not sarcastically or rude (to the park in question) which some other "trendy" vloggers often do.

But what I have noticed is since Charlotte has joined him and he no longer does vlogs on his own, that the general feel of the videos has moved towards the family/non-enthusiast/lifestyle viewer a little and for me the theme park enthusiast geekiness of his solo videos isn't always there anymore.

I've never actually watched one of their videos but I clicked on one of the Asia parks vlogs the other day as I might be there in a few weeks. I immediately closed it on seeing the video length.

I was hoping for 20 minutes or so to get a few pointers but unless you're already a fan an 80 min vid is a hard sell.

Yes quite a while ago now they announced that she'd quit her day job and was joining the channel full time.

Won't be watching the 4 hour deep dive video in Star Wars Galatic Starcruiser then?

Maybe this already exists, the youtube landscape isn't one I'm too familiar with, but I'd love a theme park/coaster channel done to a similar format to TheNeedleDrop. Short, 10 minute reviews done to camera with a bit of energy in a way that's accessible and casual but with expertise smoothly weaved in. Not going in depth about every element or every shop, but enough to give you a feel of what's good and what isn't and the overall vibe. Throw in some 'classic reviews' of older rides too and things like 'worst to best' to pad out the viewing figures. Someone with an almost Rollercoaster Philosophy level of care for the crafts of theme park design and criticism, but presented in a digestible, less niche way.

Maybe splice in own footage from the park, but this opens the door to being paid by the parks for good coverage etc.

I guess the main stumbling block is having the resources to be able to get out to enough notable new attractions or parks as close to their opening as possible in order to be relevant.

I used to enjoy watching the TPWW vlogs but then I discovered Coaster Studies and their excellent Coasting Through Europe videos where they visit various parks, I’d highly recommend them for anyone that’s finding the TPWW videos a bit of a slog these days. Coaster Studies videos are much more fun as well, Sarah brings a lot of humour to their stuff.

TPWW and their 60 minute specials (more like 90 minutes with long adverts!) are pretty nice background noise whilst I’m working from home. It can feel a bit like you’re just watching a home video of them having a day at a theme park rather than actually learning much about the places imo though.

That said, he’s incredibly knowledgable, they can be both intentionally and unintentionally funny, but if you’re going to dedicate an hour of your life each day to watching them there is going to be some fatigue there and it can feel like you’ve seen one, you’ve seen them all.

Must be completely exhausting for them too, but it pays the bills and is no doubt funner than most ‘real’ jobs. Not a cat in hells chance I could ever do it though, far too self-conscious.

I'm a fan! They make long-form content which ticks my boxes, and that's their thing. Shawn especially goes into depth about the stuff I care about, coasters, park infrastructure, and theming, so I tend to have it on in the background and treat it like a podcast. I admit not all parks or vlogs appeal to me, but I'm not glued to my screen when watching either and can happily skip a video. I also really appreciate the detailed travel vlogs, they're incredibly helpful. I never feel either of them look miserable, though I can understand how tiring long, multi-park trips must be, especially when you factor in the behind-the-camera stuff and culture shock for Charlotte especially. I enjoy the enthusiasm and the passion and knowledge built up over the years, and it's always nice to see people out there livin' the dream. There's also tons of short-form theme park content out there these days, we're spoilt for choice!

My only negative would be the parasocial YouTube community that's built up over time, but that plagues most larger channels. In fairness to TPWW too, they do interact with comments a hell of a lot more than most YouTubers do!

The struggle with iOS autocorrect is real.

The “What Is…?” series of videos by Coasterbot are pretty good, they are voice over videos rather than to camera but I find that his videos are very informative. I always enjoy his Vote Coasters polls every year as well.
