Thirteen: General Discussion

I hear it is closed because they are replacing the drive tires with the pinnacle of tire engineering from China.

Nothing screams quality like Linglong Tire of Shandong.

This legendary company allows them to replace all the drive tires for the price of 4 normal tires from any western manufacture. They don't just slip in the rain, the cheapness can cause the train to accidentally launch backwards. Maybe this is going to be a new USP.

Long live LingLong.

I've actually got a Linglong on my van, just the one mind so can't say whether it's helping me up hills in the rain or not....

It would be nice if Towers made some repairs to TH13TEEN's show building because, as shown in the above picture, it really is looking worse for wear, but I am not sure how much budget would be allocated to something like that.

I guess this depends on if there is a bigger plan to upgrade Dark Forest once Forbidden Valley is done. Nemesis looked worse for wear leading up to the retrack, as did Duel for a year or 2 before the Curse. I guess it's this that we're hanging onto with Galactica and the state that is in. Doesn't make business sense to spend thousands on something that would be changed again during a major refurb just to hide a bit of a show building that is largely out of sight. And let's be honest, based on that pic and although not ideal by any means, it's not too bad. And of course, if nothing long term is planned for Dark Forest, then maybe this will be sorted over the closed season.

But the difference between Galactica/Nemesis and Thirteen, is that to bring Thirteen 'up to scratch', it literally needs some new fabric sheeting slung over some scaffolding to make it presentable, compared to the thousands (millions) needed for Galactica and Nemesis. There isn't really an excuse for the state Thirteen is currently in, whether it's due to receive major work in the future or not.

I believe that Nemesis had a new paint job, or touch up, just a few years before it was eventually retracked (2016). There is precedent, but under old leadership and management.

Wait and see what happens over the closed season, I guess.

What did it look like originally? I only went on it for the first time either late 2022 or early 2023.

As shown in the above picture, it looked fairly similar originally, but the metal show building itself was definitely not visible due to the theming, although said theming was never of an excellent standard.
