Thorpe Park: General Discussion

A large chunk of the TV series was based in a prison, they then moved on to the Alexandra Safe Zone, which was a gated type community in Virginia surrounded by walls, it looks like they have/are taking parts from both, the entrance and signs are from Alexandra (season 5-8) and the prison props and fence from that arc (season 3-5).

Personally, I wonder if Lucille is hidden somewhere in there as a prop.
 
Massive fan of the Walking Dead, and looking forward to this, but really they need to stop rolling out the same theme ride after ride...

They have just unveiled the new, fresh and lively “island like no other” brand, along with the upbeat island style soundtrack across the park, but still insist on theming most of the rides as abandoned warehouses :(
 
Gotta be the most random concept art ever... you have the attempt at Walking Dead theming, whilst Storm Surge looms over the top left in its bright colours, followed by the giant corrugated metal pyramid. It’s bizarre and not exactly immersive!

Short answer - yes.

Long answer - they probably could have painted it if they really wanted to, but I with the cost, time, and level of planning involved, it would have basically been just as easy to tear down the existing pyramid and build a new one. So it's really not worth it.

I'm not sure it needed painting, really. There are quite a few things in the park far more worthy of a paint job!

That said, I think we would all have enjoyed eight pages of "OMG. I can't believe they painted it that colour".
 
You openly don't yourself care about that stuff @Rick, which is fine. But objectively this stuff does all amount to a difference in every guest's enjoyment. Just look at Thorpe Park's current typical day out now – tarmac, cattlepen queues on concrete, grey and bland areas, most rides now boxed-in on top of each other. A totally different park to what it was even 10 years ago.

Couldn't you have commented about how, yes, painting the pyramid is an unnecessarily huge task, without adding the kind of sneering remark that people who do care about themed attractions often get labelled with online?

Yes a selection of people are needlessly negative, but not all criticism is, and the bitterness on both "sides" is just as unhelpful.

My perspective is, what will make X a brilliant attraction is what they produce inside, there's a lot of space and potential to be really inventive with it. But will they do it, or will it be another cheap decay theme, visit to the junkyard and here-today IP logo stuck on the top?

Given how the fairground looked (in comparison to the CGI deer) during that season six I think episode (the Richone one), I'd say the present state of Storm Surge fits in quiet well with the Walking Dead theme lol
 
I get the impression that the people who visit Thorpe aren't stupid and will realise that this is just X No Way Out rethemed and running forwards and will be deserted by the Summer.
 
I think it's something as simple as wanting to cash in on the IP all year round rather than for just a month, I doubt TWD is the kind of franchise you can license for just 4 weeks, so they might as well make the most of it.
