Towers Loving Care

I wish they'd have built a roof on it. Its horrendous in the rain and you have to leave your bags in a massive puddle.

Personally, if any ride was to be given a roof I would want it to be Rita. Unfortunately, budget restraint has led to several popular rides at ATR not having rooves and it's bad for staff, guests, wear and tear... the lot!

I wouldn't especially call it 'advertising'. This is hardly mass media or mainstream. They are only really running the TLC page for enthusiasts, who know full well the station was falling apart last year.

:)

I suppose. But, you have to acknowledge the hilarity of the situation they ended up in with that station. I can't think of contractors/designers incompetent enough to put something together so poorly that it finds itself in that state within 12 months!

I agree. I trust Alton Towers haven't paid a penny for the rebuild of Octonauts, it was that bad.

Really don't understand how octonauts passed the bbc inspection it was shocking

Rita was intentionally designed without a roof to fit in the the original 'theme' of a racetrack. The idea being that open air would give more of an impression of being a drag strip which obviously wouldn't have a roof. Although I do see your point I have to agree with the original logic and say it is better without a roof.

Anyway I would like to say that I have been very pleasantly surprised about this program. When I first heard about the program I was as cynical as most of you and assumed it was just a front for closing rides for budget cuts but credit where credit is due they have done a great job.

yes I know it should have been done every year but it doesn't mean we shouldn't be happy and, I know this is tough for some of you but, be thankful and praise the good work going on!

None of us expected such good work to go on including nemmys station and the track repaint (even if the station is over two years to ensure they can get the proper quality of painters doing it justice) and even the loss of Rita's infamous scaffolding tunnel.

The program is in theory three years long (if they can be bothered). So I would be hoping over the next two years we will get a Smiler repaint as it is a state (and maybe if we are really lucky they might even aligne the projectors!) a reopening of hex and maybe N:ST with fixed theming and restraints/parking issue sorted. Towers Street could do with a bit of attention as well as duel.

I just hope they give a budget for maintenance every year after this is finished so they don't make the same mistake again and the park can look top quality all of the time. But my biggest worry is that we don't hear about this project again and the budget disappears and the park is left to rot away again.
:)

Why they didn't just build a recreation of whatever the big base is called for the Octonauts station astounds me...

If it is true that budget restraints prevented a roof being built on a station, then there is something badly wrong with Merlins's operation...

I've also heard about some work (maybe painting) on Towers Street. I tried to have a look when I was around there last weekend, and although you can't get up to the entrance turnstiles at the moment due to the work on the ticket booths, I couldn't notice any real difference. I love Towers Street as an entrance location in terms of the view opening up as you walk into the park, but the street itself does feel quite dated now. I'd love one year for them to have a multi-million pound project to totally redesign Towers Street but that is for another topic!

:)

If some people think that some (non-advertised) paint jobs and a few extra similar bits is a genius marketing strategy that will boost attendance figures then I worry about their understanding of, well, life.

I worry about altitude sickness for those who sit so high on their pedestal. Instead of insulting my views and stating that because of them I have no 'understanding of life' how about you discuss like an adult instead of being a condescending oaf?

If your park has suffered an accident which has noticably hurt guest numbers and trust, then surly the next priority is to win the trust back of those guests. How do you do that? I do think it's a very clever marketing decision and with 150k Twitter followers, it is advertised well enough to get word around that Alton are serious about their claims to improve the park and win back the trust of the general public.

The same twitter followers will also quickly become aware that many rides have closed compared to last season. Any benefit from this TLC will be offset by upset about a decline in ride availability. Hardly genius marketing is it? Which is why I don't feel the need to go into detail or debate about it. Visitor numbers this season will be an indicator of how bothered the general public are of TLC. The only thing close to genius marketing they could have done this year would have been to open a groundbreaking new ride and some extra flats and showered it all over the media. When you decide to say that this TLC programme is "genius marketing" don't be surprised if people call you out on it. I'm going out now, so have a nice day :)

There's calling someone out, then there's being rude and condescending. You don't have to agree with me, but you also don't need to suggest I don't 'understand life' because of it. I expect better from a member I've read and enjoyed posts from since the early TTF days. That kind of post is beneath you Barry and you know it.

With the Smiler incident only being last year would you want a groundbreaking ride, rushed and installed with in a year? You and both know Alton are meticulous in dragging their feet on installs and Galactica is an easy quick fix. I feel the TLC is a panic reaction. I can't remember the last time Alton publicised a ride's re-paint, why do you think all of a sudden they are now? They want to show that they do care about the park to the general public and that rides are well maintained. It's marketing, I may have been overzealous with the use of genius but it's clever when you think about it. Enjoy your day out. :)

Visitor numbers this season will be an indicator of how bothered the general public are of TLC.

Visitor numbers in 2016 will be more of an indicator of how the public are still reacting to the incident on The Smiler and not how bothered they may or may not be about TLC.

TLC is not a scheme to get people to flood into the park. TLC is a scheme whereby Towers have realised that the park was looking woeful in places and they are trying to do something about it over a three year period on a limited budget. It is vitally important that a theme park looks good, inviting and appealing etc. Guests are far more likely to return to a place that they enjoyed being in than a place where they didn't. TLC will, to a small extent, help with this.

:)

Cough cough The Smiler cough cough.

You're right, it was a bit rude and condescending, I fully accept that. I apologise, I shouldn't have gone quite that far :)

No worries and thankyou.

I will admit that genius was too strong a word to use as it's more attributed to actual feats of genius. ;)

Towers Loving Care really isn't something for the general public to get excited over. It's mainly for fansites.

The main AT Twitter account may have 150k followers but the TLC account has 1,000 and I'm fairly sure it hasn't been promoted on the main feed at all.

To put that into perspective, that's half the followers we have on Twitter as TowersStreet. :)

I wish they would show some updates on their main social media channels. Such as the Nemesis track repaint.
