Round 12 Voting
OK, folks. The Round 12 submissions are in, so the voting stage can now begin!

Please vote for your Round 12 favourites via this Google Form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1...T7jy19HnlzI9DSjp872wqyhKg/viewform?usp=dialog

Let me just recap a few things about voting, if you need a reminder:
  • If you're not clear on how I'd like you to vote; please pick your top 5 track layouts and rank them in order of preference from #1 to #5. Therefore, if you give a player a particular ranking, the points allocated are as follows; #1 ranking = 5pts, #2 ranking = 4pts, #3 ranking = 3pts, #4 ranking = 2pts, #5 ranking = 1pt. Note: As we only have 5 submissions this week, please only pick a top 5 if you have not submitted a submission. If you have submitted a submission, please pick a top 4 to prevent voting for yourself.
  • You will also receive the opportunity to nominate a submission for Realism or Originality if you wish. These nominations are not compulsory; you can award them if you wish, but you do not have to nominate anyone for Realism or Originality.
  • Please only fill out this form once. I have not mandated this within the form itself, but I'm trusting you all here.
  • Please do not vote for yourself. I know that there is no way I can mandate this, but I trust you not to. Please can I request that you only nominate submissions that are not your own.
  • Please bear in mind that the numbered ranking categories in the Google Form (#1, #2, #3, #4 and #5) are intended to be mutually exclusive, and if you put a submission in one ranking spot, you should not put it in another. I will reject any ballots cast with one submission nominated for multiple ranking spots (for instance, you cannot nominate a submission as both your #1 and your #2). This does not apply to Most Realistic and Most Original, however; if you are making nominations in these categories, you can nominate the same submission for both, and you can also nominate a submission that you have already put in your 1-5 ranking for one or both of these categories if you wish.
  • Please judge submissions on track layout only. This is a coaster layout building contest; theming is pretty much irrelevant here.
  • I know that this form of voting is more anonymous than some may like. If you would like to add a slightly more personal touch, you can post a comment in this thread indicating your top 5 choices, as well as any Realism or Originality nominations. However, can I please request that the Google Form be your first port of call for voting; I will only count votes cast within the Google Form, as if you post in this thread, I wouldn't like to assume whether you've already voted in the Google Form or not. Post your choices in the thread by all means, but please make sure that you log your votes within the Google Form first, as the votes within the Google Form are the votes I'll be counting.
Here is a reminder of everyone's submissions so that you know what you're voting for:
  • Tango Impact Wave, a B&M Stand-Up Coaster by @Matt.GC:
  • Cyclone, a Maurer spinning coaster by @Matt N:
  • Lancelot, a Vekoma looping coaster by @Thameslink Rail:
  • Training Wings, a B&M Wing Coaster by @tactic:
  • Bloody Big Blue Bird, an S&S Free Fly by @Poisson:

Voting for Round 12 closes on Friday 14th February 2025 at 11:45pm, and the results will be revealed as part of the Week 14 Weekly Digest.

It's now time to move onto the final bit of the week...
Round 13 Building
Now that Round 12 is over, it's time to reveal the next round of the competition! The brief for Round 13 is... New Coaster for Plopsaland de Panne! The context for the round is as follows:
In 2021, Plopsaland de Panne surprised just about everyone by opening Ride to Happiness, Europe's first Mack XTREME Spinning Coaster. For a family park, this represented a truly drastic departure from the norm... but it turned out to be a roaring success, with the ride being revered by coaster fans across the globe! With RTH now being nearly 5 years old, Plopsaland have decided that it's time for their next big thing to be built... and they've hired none other than you to design it! Now the park has cut their teeth in with Ride to Happiness, they've caught the thrill coaster bug, so they want another fairly substantial ride. However, they're only prepared to offer up the fairly small plot of land taken up by the Het Bos van Plop dark ride, and as Plopsa isn't a huge park, the budget they're giving you to work with isn't endless either. It'll be a challenging build... what will you offer up?
The constraints for the round are as follows:
  • Maximum Footprint 190ft*299ft/58m*91m
  • Minimum Height 100ft/30m
  • Maximum Budget $15,000
For some context, the area of Plopsaland we're working with here is as follows:
Plopsaland Plot.png
To apply the footprint constraints, I would recommend using the Scenario Editor to make yourself a park template that allows you to enforce the constraints.

However, if you find yourself unable to do this, I have created a Steam Workshop park template with the footprint constraints pre-imposed, which you can download here: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3420616564

For console users, I would recommend setting out the footprint constraints using wall pieces or path pieces to build yourself an "area" to work within. Path and wall pieces are typically 4m in length, for reference. I know it's not ideal, but it's unfortunately the best I can recommend given that neither Scenario Editor nor Steam Workshop are available on console... sorry for the inconvenience, folks.

To submit, please build your submission, film a POV and/or off-ride shots of it, and post the video(s) in this thread. You can briefly describe your ride if you wish. YouTube is the website I'd recommend for uploading videos to, as this would integrate best with the Google Form when it comes to voting, but if you want to upload your video(s) using a different method, then that's also fine. If you have any issues with recording or uploading your video(s), please don't hesitate to contact me. I will try my best to assist you.

May I once again emphasise that this is a coaster layout building contest. By all means add some light theming and landscaping if you wish, but the coaster layout should ideally be the focus. Quality of coaster layout is pretty much the be all and end all here; heavy theming won't gain you any points, and no theming won't lose you any points.

The submission deadline for Round 13 is Friday 14th February 2025 at 11:45pm. If you struggle for time and would like me to extend the deadline, please PM me or request an extension in this thread before the deadline. If you do not make contact with me and ask for an extension, I will assume that you simply do not want to compete in this round and move on after the posted deadline.

I think that's all I need to cover for Week 13. Good luck with Round 13, folks! If you have any questions or concerns about the round, please don't hesitate to contact me. I am always more than happy to help.

Get building for Round 13 and voting for Round 12, everybody!

Name: Steel Tariffs; The Donald Trump Ride.

What better way for the EU to get back at Trump than to commission an American company to build a coaster in his honour, made from Chinese steel?

Construction of Trump's Costa-Del-Gaza resort is well underway amidst the ruins. He's brought his gun toting thugs with him because he's found oil. Drill baby drill!

The ride restrictions list "no Mexicans", and the queue time board lies and says it's 10 minutes when it's 2 hours.

God bless 'merica.

Round 14 Building
Now that Round 13 is over, it's time to reveal the next round of the competition! The brief for Round 14 is... Drenched Replacement for Oakwood! The context for the round is as follows:
Oakwood Theme Park in Wales has fallen upon tough times in recent years, which has perhaps been most exacerbated as of late by the sudden removal of Drenched, their huge Intamin water ride. With the park losing such a huge ride, they've realised that they can't just coast on the reputation of Megafobia ad infinitum, and they've asked you to design them a brand new headliner! The park wants something big that will make a statement of intent, but the Drenched plot is not the largest. Money is also very, very tight at Oakwood, so financing a headline ride of this scale could prove a tall order. It'll be a tough middle ground to strike... how well will you strike the balance between headline draws and space and affordability?
The constraints for the round are as follows:
  • Maximum Footprint 443ft*164ft/135m*50m
  • Minimum Height 100ft/30m
  • Maximum Budget $7,500
For some context, the area of Oakwood we're working with here is as follows:

Name: Beynon 1984

Wealthy Tory voting landowner Beynon has found a way of flogging coal to an orange guy in America, who allegedly loves fossil fuels. He needs the cash after his dodgy PPE contract went south, and his investments in Greensill haven't gone too well either recently.

He enlists local scum ladies and gentlemen of a more Working Class inclination to extract the coal from a local abdoned South Wales coal mine, enticing them with sheep and as many leeks as they can eat.

Problem is, the mine was shut by the government in 1984. Stepping over old NUM placards and ignoring rusty British Coal Board signs, he forces the locals into the mine. But rumour has it, the mine is haunted by the ghosts of Arthur Scargill and none other than the wicked witvh hrtself - Maggie Thatcher!

It's now time to move onto the final bit of the week...
Round 15 Building
Now that Round 14 is over, it's time to reveal the next round of the competition! The brief for Round 15 is... Lost River Ride Replacement for Flamingo Land! The context for the round is as follows:
A year ago or so ago, Flamingo Land embarked on a mysterious revamp project of the Lost River Ride, their large water ride. The lift hill vanished... but then nothing else seemed to come out of the project after that. The truth is that this is because the project was going awry somewhat... so the park have now decided to cut their losses and replace the Lost River Ride entirely with a new roller coaster. But Flamingo Land don't just want any roller coaster, oh no... they want a new park icon, and they've hired none other than you to design it! The park wants the ride to be of considerable size compared to the rest of their selection, and also of considerable length, but bear in mind that Flamingo Land is not the largest of parks and Sik is only a couple of years old, so they can't exactly write you a blank cheque, unfortunately. It'll be a challenge... what will you come up with?
The constraints for the round are as follows:
  • Maximum Footprint 551ft*374ft/168m*114m
  • Minimum Height 150ft/46m
  • Minimum Length 4,000ft/1,219m
  • Maximum Budget $12,500
For some context, the area of Flamingo Land we're working with here is as follows:

The submission deadline for Round 15 is Friday 28th February 2025 at 11:45pm. If you struggle for time and would like me to extend the deadline, please PM me or request an extension in this thread before the deadline. If you do not make contact with me and ask for an extension, I will assume that you simply do not want to compete in this round and move on after the posted deadline.

I think that's all I need to cover for Week 15. Good luck with Round 15, folks! If you have any questions or concerns about the round, please don't hesitate to contact me. I am always more than happy to help.

Get building for Round 15 and voting for Round 14, everybody!
