TowersStreet Planet Coaster Speed Build Contest 2024/25: Week 7 ends 3rd January

My first entry to this competition! I present, Siren! Actually breaks the record for the largest "full" drop on a rollercoaster even after Falcon's flight debut's! ;)

An Intamin "Wing Coaster"

Track Length: 7293 ft
Maximum Speed: 131mph
Biggest Drop: 568 ft
Number of inversions: 5
Total airtime duration: 7.7s

Runs 2-3 trains with a capacity of 32 each.

The G forces are a little on the wild side! at a whopping 6gs on the first drop. Maybe if I'd had a little longer I'd have found a way to make this a little more on the err, "realistic" side. Still, it was good fun! 😛

Great round, everybody! Let's now move onto Round 4 voting...
Round 4 Voting
OK, folks. The Round 4 submissions are in, so the voting stage can now begin!

Please vote for your Round 4 favourites via this Google Form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdlWzYrt1kiwW9TgBx6O35dtkVpKwnWnCl11TEsOaPcUMzVFg/viewform

Let me just recap a few things about voting, if you need a reminder:
  • If you're not clear on how I'd like you to vote; please pick your top 5 track layouts and rank them in order of preference from #1 to #5. Therefore, if you give a player a particular ranking, the points allocated are as follows; #1 ranking = 5pts, #2 ranking = 4pts, #3 ranking = 3pts, #4 ranking = 2pts, #5 ranking = 1pt.
  • You will also receive the opportunity to nominate a submission for Realism or Originality if you wish. These nominations are not compulsory; you can award them if you wish, but you do not have to nominate anyone for Realism or Originality. As the Bonus Round doubling rule also applies to Realism and Originality points, each Realism or Originality nomination a player gets will grant them 2 Realism points or 2 Originality points.
  • Please only fill out this form once. I have not mandated this within the form itself, but I'm trusting you all here.
  • Please do not vote for yourself. I know that there is no way I can mandate this, but I trust you not to. Please can I request that you only nominate submissions that are not your own.
  • Please bear in mind that the numbered ranking categories in the Google Form (#1, #2, #3, #4 and #5) are intended to be mutually exclusive, and if you put a submission in one ranking spot, you should not put it in another. I will reject any ballots cast with one submission nominated for multiple ranking spots (for instance, you cannot nominate a submission as both your #1 and your #2). This does not apply to Most Realistic and Most Original, however; if you are making nominations in these categories, you can nominate the same submission for both, and you can also nominate a submission that you have already put in your 1-5 ranking for one or both of these categories if you wish.
  • Please judge submissions on track layout only. This is a coaster layout building contest; theming is pretty much irrelevant here.
  • I know that this form of voting is more anonymous than some may like. If you would like to add a slightly more personal touch, you can post a comment in this thread indicating your top 5 choices, as well as any Realism or Originality nominations. However, can I please request that the Google Form be your first port of call for voting; I will only count votes cast within the Google Form, as if you post in this thread, I wouldn't like to assume whether you've already voted in the Google Form or not. Post your choices in the thread by all means, but please make sure that you log your votes within the Google Form first, as the votes within the Google Form are the votes I'll be counting.
Here is a reminder of everyone's submissions so that you know what you're voting for:

Voting for Round 4 closes on Friday 13th December 2024 at 11:45pm, and the results will be revealed as part of the Week 6 Weekly Digest.

Get voting for your Round 4 favourites, folks! If you have any questions or concerns about Round 4 voting, please don't hesitate to get in touch with me. I am always more than happy to help.

It's now time to move onto the final bit of the week...
Round 5 Building
Now that Round 4 is over, it's time to reveal the next round of the competition! The brief for Round 5 is... Brean Theme Park's New Big Thing! The context for the round is as follows:
For years, Brean Theme Park has plodded along, content with being the biggest theme park in the South West of England rather than competing on a national level. But today, they've decided that they don't want to plod anymore, and that they want to start making a name for themselves on a national level with a new big thing. And they've hired none other than you to design that new big thing! There are a few problems; they only have a very slender plot of land behind the Bulldog Coaster to work with, and they aren't exactly the most flash for cash either, so budget will be a challenge. Other than that, though, the sky's the limit! You've certainly got your work cut out... will you rise to the challenge?
The constraints for the round are as follows:
  • Maximum Footprint 50m*71m/164ft*233ft
  • Maximum Budget $5,000
For some context, the area of Brean Theme Park we're working with here is as follows:
Brean-Plot.png

To apply the footprint constraints, I would recommend using the Scenario Editor to make yourself a park template that allows you to enforce the constraints.

However, if you find yourself unable to do this, I have created a Steam Workshop park template with the footprint constraints pre-imposed, which you can download here: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3375886885

For console users, I would recommend setting out the footprint constraints using wall pieces or path pieces to build yourself an "area" to work within. Path and wall pieces are typically 4m in length, for reference. I know it's not ideal, but it's unfortunately the best I can recommend given that neither Scenario Editor nor Steam Workshop are available on console... sorry for the inconvenience, folks.

To submit, please build your submission, film a POV and/or off-ride shots of it, and post the video(s) in this thread. You can briefly describe your ride if you wish. YouTube is the website I'd recommend for uploading videos to, as this would integrate best with the Google Form when it comes to voting, but if you want to upload your video(s) using a different method, then that's also fine. If you have any issues with recording or uploading your video(s), please don't hesitate to contact me. I will try my best to assist you.

May I once again emphasise that this is a coaster layout building contest. By all means add some light theming and landscaping if you wish, but the coaster layout should ideally be the focus. Quality of coaster layout is pretty much the be all and end all here; heavy theming won't gain you any points, and no theming won't lose you any points.

The submission deadline for Round 5 is Friday 13th December 2024 at 11:45pm. If you struggle for time and would like me to extend the deadline, please PM me or request an extension in this thread before the deadline. If you do not make contact with me and ask for an extension, I will assume that you simply do not want to compete in this round and move on after the posted deadline.

I think that's all I need to cover for Week 5. Good luck with Round 5, folks! If you have any questions or concerns about the round, please don't hesitate to contact me. I am always more than happy to help.

Get building for Round 5 and voting for Round 4, everybody!

So that's Helix, my Round 5 submission! I hope you like it; I went with something slightly different this week, and while I know it's a tad rough around the edges, I'm quite pleased with how it's turned out overall given the budget and area!

Reminds me of the XT450 at PdAdM
Abismo is kind of what I was inspired by, but I also tried to put a slightly more modern spin on the concept with the Kremer Roll!

I wanted to go a tad longer, but the budget said no in that regard...

Argh you got there first Matt! 😂 I was just about to design one of these but I won’t even attempt to steal your thunder as this looks ace! 👌

Think fast Marshy! 😂

After the sale of the Reverchon Mouse to Abie Danter, the park has a gap in their line up for a spinning coaster. I figured why not make one but a Maurer instead of Reverchon/Cedeal/Sartori/SBF nonsense

$4509.98, 1659ft long, 87ft tall, tops out at 46mph and capable of 800pph+ an hour, more with rolling or twin station.

Great submission @Poisson! You've managed to squeeze a lot of length out of the space and budget, and your ride has some fun twists and turns and good spinning!

Funnily enough, I actually strongly pondered a Maurer spinning coaster myself before opting for the Maurer SkyLoop I ultimately went for...

Is it bad that last week I ran out of time for a bit of themeing....this week I didn't because the park has an entrance sign that looks like this

1733776657808.png

The Wurzels Present - Thatchers Gold: The Ride.

Annoyed that they have to pay inheritance tax on their fortunes, the local farmers struck a sponsorship deal with Thatchers cider down in Sandford and hid their money at Brean. The budget even stretched to a bit of soap in the toilets. Local celebrities The Wurzels opened it for them. "Get off mye la'and". Brean's Brumie patrons didn't have a clue what was going on.

Turns out that the budget can't get you much better than the tat that's already at Brean. Will be themed to mostly naked ladies like much of Brean's other rides, but I couldn't create that in Planco.

Brean wanted an a major attraction. Something captivating, intimidating. They wanted Oblivion. Trouble is, they couldn't afford enough B&M track, so they used what they could afford and fashioned it into the famous hole itself. Here at Brean we spare no expense.

The park even invested in planting "miniature" trees to create the illusion of a much larger ride!

Why should people spend £68 when they can experience the same thrill for a fraction of the cost? Brean's taken a leaf out of Aldi's book.

Just as a reminder for everyone, we are now half way through Week 5. There are 3 days left until the submission deadline.

I’ve had 2 responses to the Round 4 Voting Google Form so far, including my own. If you’d like to vote for your Round 4 favourites, here’s the form allowing you to do so: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdlWzYrt1kiwW9TgBx6O35dtkVpKwnWnCl11TEsOaPcUMzVFg/viewform

There have been 5 submissions for Round 5 so far, including my own. If you would like a deadline extension for Round 5, please notify me before the deadline and I would be happy to facilitate one for you. If you have any issues with uploading videos or anything at all, get in touch with me and I would be very happy to solve these issues for you. If you do not get into contact with me before the deadline, I will assume that you are happy forfeiting this round and move on.

The deadline for both Round 5 building and Round 4 voting is Friday 13th December 2024 at 11:45pm. The Week 6 Weekly Digest will be posted on Saturday 14th December 2024 at 12am.

On a side note, I have to say that this round seems to have generated some excellently fun-looking submissions so far! I haven’t had the opportunity to watch some of the more recent ones individually yet (apologies for that), but they look particularly fun and original (not that they aren’t every week, of course, but I think they seem to look particularly fun and original this week!)!

Awesome submission @tactic! Your ride has some really nice airtime and inversions, and doesn't do badly scale-wise given the budget!
Also just a heads up Matt, this is the link to the week 2 voting form, it says it's locked as its for a previous week.
Thanks for the heads up and apologies for the error; this should be edited now!
