Re: NEXT MEET: TST Half Term: Saturday, 15th February 2014
I think everyone really appreciates the time and effort the team put in to organising these events, we also just like to moan a lot, it is a forum after all
It is an impossible task, and you can not please everyone. I know its not ideal, but there is nothing stopping people organising mini meets on a day that suits them, the problem will be that most people will be busy that day or don't want to go as they are planning to do the official meet.
I think you are going to be in that 1% of people Nat, who can not swap a Saturday shift with 6 months notice, and the other problem would of course be that if the days were swapped around, there would be someone who has to work every Sunday, and they would then moan they could not go.
I personally think the team do a fantastic job, I know I could not do it. I think the current solution of posting the meets at the start of the year is great, it gives people plenty of time to try and book days off, make a informed decision about what they are going to attend and what they are not. The tool for who is going, and where people are stopping is very helpful, and while there are numerous improvements I am sure Joel would love to make to it, it does the job of helping people sort transport and accommodation out more efficiently than on the forum.
Without further increasing the workload that the team volunteer to run this site, I am not sure what else can be done to make it easier for people to be able to attend and enjoy themselves.
The only thing I can think of to improve the current offering is to start the discussion about meets sooner, maybe 3/4 months before they are due, and get Joel's Meet Planning tool running. This just gives people more time to get organised and everything sorted. I know the flip side is that it's something extra for the team to manage, and takes the focus away from nearer events, but it could be worth testing with the August Meet, and Scarefest meet as these are two of the biggest ones in the year?
