TST Official Meet Calendar 2014

The queues are a great time to socialise! These meets are not about the rides (well, maybe it is about Rapids ;)) and on my one meet, we had so many laughs in the queues!

Mind you, there are the occasional Nemesis SRQ faffers that run round to the SRQ and try to get back on before the rest of the group have gotten off :p

*Waves*

And some awkward arses who have to queue for front row on RITA, and then ask us to wait for them when we get off the normal queue.

As someone rightly said on opening meet this year, they're making us wait around for longer, so that THEY can have a better ride than us.

Mentioning no names, *cough*@Panda*cough*

ERM. To be fair, @Sammy was late (as per, eh?) and was on the same train as us. ;) Then there were a couple behind us on the train after!
You missed your opportunity. ;)

It's the principle. We'll settle this next time.

I know SF meet isn't being discussed yet, but I'm just wondering if anyone is going who won't be doing the mazes. I am looking at going, but I'm not sure it'd be worthwhile if I'm the only one standing outside the mazes while everyone else is queueing for ages.

Mazes are not my thing, so please don't try and persuade me into doing them @Sam @djtruefitt @AstroDan :p

Not everyone does the mazes on park, and if we do its usually only once during the day (usually when they open at 12/1pm). Those that don't do the mazes usually just go and do a ride or two.

Great stuff! I had the impression that you do the mazes when it gets dark at 5/6:00 or even later. I'll happily do the scare zones though, which I didn't manage to do last year due to horrendous queues!

Doesn't really matter when you do the mazes as its dark in there anyway, its also usually cheaper and quieter in the afternoon than at night.

Ah right, cool! Maybe it's because last year was the busiest day of SF when I was there, so we were waiting for a good hour or 2 for people to come out the mazes. :/

@AstroDan I don't want to pay however much it is to be scared shitless in an experience I do not want to be a part of. I would much rather spend that money elsewhere.

And I also just don't want to do the mazes!

Disclaimer: I know what I am about to ask is hypocritical, as provisionally setting dates for something in the future, so people can plan time off around them, does not really work if they are only provisional and are subject to moving, but I am going to ask anyway, so at least it might be possible to put some forward planning in place.

As we are now getting towards the end of the Season, I was wondering if it might be possible for some events for next year to be scheduled. This may seem a little silly, but, there is less time to March opening 2015 than there was to Scarefest 2014 when this thread was produced, and even less time for Feb Half term :)

I know until Towers release the official opening times the dates would be subject to change, but things like the Lodges opening which is mid season I am assuming is likely to have an official meet, and unless their is a delay in the construction, I am assuming the date would stay the same.

I know some people can not plan as far in advance, and only have a months notice with work, and I know there is others like me, who need as much notice as possible, so getting the balance right for everyone is a challenge, but I just thought I would throw this out there, and see what others think :)

Thanks,

Ian

In terms of meets @IanB, we're unlikely to have anything confirmed until after fireworks at the moment. "Provisional" meet up dates only create confusion, so wouldn't be a good idea. It's also much better for us to get the season's meets out the way, which give the team a chance to see how each meet has gone and see where we go for next season. We'll also need to hear from members on what they would like to see next year too (hint hint!).

Next year will likely see fewer official meets in general, and we'll likely move toward having a small core of main meets such as opening and fireworks. In much the same way as happened for Liseberg, we'll then probably look to upgrade meets to official ones based on their popularity. We did a similar thing back on TTF for a while and it seemed to work well, and reduces low attendance meets due to other more popular unofficial meets taking place around the same time.

I agree that Provisional dates would only cause more problems, rather than solve anything, and I was hoping Towers might have shared with you guys their plans for next year. (Wishful thinking, but as seen by other European Parks, they are already planning for next year)

To get the discussion going, I am thinking of something like the following meets for Towers next year.

Feb Half Term - 1 Day (Which ever weekend is not on Valentines Day)
Opening Day - 1 Day
18th April/19th April - 2 Day - Accommodation in the Lodges
Scarefest Weekend - 2 Days - Accommodation at Towers
Fireworks -1 Day

I have just focused on Towers meets, and there is gaps where you could fit mini meets in, but as a basis, I think this covers the main events at Towers and allows plenty of gaps for meets at other parks and European adventures.

Feb Half Term is a tricky one, as I have a feeling Saturday 14th will be the first day, but as it is also Valentines Day, it makes it difficult for those in a relationship to attend, so maybe having it as the final Sunday (22nd) would make it easier for more people to attend.

Opening day I am suggesting as a one day meet, as I expect a lot of people to want to book the lodges when they open a month later. Assuming they do not get delayed.

Scarefest is always a popular one, and I think having accommodation on site makes it better. Its easier to get changed in to costumes, people spend less time off park, and it avoids a 30 minute drive after the park closes back to the hotel. I know I managed to get a Sun Discounted room this year, as have others, so with a little forward planning it is possible to get accommodation on site cheaper than normal, and with the Lodges still been refresh, I can see this been a popular choice. Wishful thinking again, but with the increased accommodation, hopefully the prices will not be as silly as they are this year for Scarefest.

I think for the the 2 day meets with overnight accommodation, it would make sense to start the planning threads at the start of the year. This gives people plenty of time to sort themselves in to groups, and help people save up for a room. Saving £50 (And additional costs) for a space in a room is a lot easier over 6 months than trying to find it in 1 week. I know its a little extra work for the mods, but it gets it out of the way, and is one less thing to worry about later :)

Let the discussions begin :)

Ian
