UK politics general discussion

So, in the latest on Cruella Braverman, she’s now allegedly said in an interview that some immigrants lie about their sexuality (i.e. they claim they’re gay when they’re apparently not) to gain refugee status in the UK. I genuinely question what on earth goes on inside her head for her to say disgusting and abhorrent things like that. She’s absolutely vile.
Homophobic thoughts by the sounds of it.

But... some absolutely do though. And some will also lie about any other thing they think will help them gain asylum. Huge numbers lie about their age to be treated as a child, some about their true country of origin, and any other fhink you can think of. Most of course have a genuinely held belief of and right to asylum.

Not to say I think there is anything to be gained in bringing this to public discussion in this way, that in terms of sexuallity it is is any great number, and it is far from being a significant issue compared to the many others which are mainly self inflicted, nor that she isn't awful. I don't know how the comment came about, but if it is in answer to a question then it isn't a lie.

I do think there is some legitimacy to the point made a couple of days ago that if you throw a 'you must be racist' remark at anyone questioning all attempts at immigration and border control you really do stiffel reasonable discussion. It feels like an impossibility to hold any political middle ground in the age of social media giving a seemingly legitimate mouthpiece to both extremes of the political scale.

Personally had an issue with a twenty five year old young man pretending to be fifteen, and then he abused one of our young ladies sexually...in the childrens home where I worked, while claiming asylum because of his sexuality.
His big fibs were caught out.

It's the dog whistling that's the issue. After 13 years of power they are quickly running out of ideas, credibility and more importantly to them. Votes. Being against immigration might not be racist. But my god it's stirs up those who are.

it's the same tactic that was being used by UKIP prior to 2016. They are the issue. They are the problem. Traffic jams. Immigration. Can't see a Dr. Immigration. Can't afford to stay in a four star hotel. They are in one for free. Can't buy a house or be able to find one. Full of foreigners.

look at the plans to curb it. Send them Rwanda? Sound, let's spend more billions doing that, wash our hands in the process. And the issue of housing them.
Use a barge not fit for human habitation, even though they checked and what do the fire service and health and safety authorities actually know. We are sick of experts. Woke. Having pictures of Mickey mouse on a wall, get rid it will only attract them.

the issue is. They have nothing. No plan. No resolution and no strategy to the problem. France won't care. The EU don't care since we have cut that tie. You voted to go, you deal with them. We have far more to deal with. I don't blame them. 2016 was sold to us that this will stop the issue. It's only made it worse because we are clueless

Her and rishi are from families who moved to this country from far foreign land. A country that would have spat at them. Racially abused them, burn the houses and kill anyone brave enough to be white
They have claimed their way to the top.jobs in this country. She has a nerve to say. "Multi cultural society isn't working people!"

I understand the point that they will be people trying to get here under bad pretences. Doesn't mean they all are.

The thing is, when Braverman and Rishi's elders came to Britain it was because we had a lot of industry and we needed people to work those jobs for the country to thrive. We were literally asking people to come over and live and work here. There were more available council houses to go around and these people worked hard anyway and could afford to buy their own houses by just working a relatively normal manual labour job. I don't remember any Sikh or Hindu sex trafficking or major drugs gangs or any other stuff like that. The country has changed now. Not enough housing, the manufacturing jobs are almost all gone, the NHS always has massive waiting lists, hardly anyone can get in to see a doctor anymore. Public transport is full. People want to come here but unless they're skilled enough to go straight into the NHS or whatever, they're going to be working crap jobs that nowadays will not provide you with enough money to pay your way for accomodation, decent food, transport and everything else. A lot will be straight onto the benefits system without ever having contributed. And that's just the people who move here legally. Those claiming asylum can't even work at all (legally) so the whole cost of their lives is paid for by the tax-payer straight away upon entry. Immigrants must turn up here and after a few months wonder why they bothered and how they could fall for the lie of the promise of the land of milk and honey. Then when they can't earn enough money to live a decent life, what do you do? Find other ways of making money that may be outside of the law? Some might, some won't. I don't know. If they were clever they'd choose Sweden or Germany or somewhere decent anyway.

Your right we did have alot of industry. But we also had a vast shortage of man power due to the second world war. We also needed all the houses, factories and other places rebuilt. Can't do that with a mass labour and skill shortage. We still had mass immigration when our industries started to decline in 70s.

Council housing. Sell em.never replace and wonder why we are all of a sudden short. Cheers Maggie.

We have a labour shortage now. Ok we haven't had several million tonnes of the finest Germans bombs raining down on heads, but we voted to get out of the EU, which took alot of elections, plumbers, builders, lorry drivers, farm hands, warehouse workers, Dr's, nurses etc. Away. We are struggling as nation. Since we left a big trading block, we've all of sudden realised maybe we did need to build and grow our own shit.

Like I say, every country will get those coming in for the wrong reason and the "milk and honey." Plenty have come and became a success and contributed to society. Hearing tales of people from the small boats working in the NHS as doctors and nurses. The issue we have is, we aren't able to process correctly. Filter out the vile. Because we are too busy treating them all as scum.

You are very correct. Why on earth would anyone come here at all.

Can you cite the source on “huge numbers lying” claim?

We are barely processing any claims so curious what the source of that statement is.

1.5% of asylum claims last year were on the basis of sexuality. So I’m not sure what she’s going to pin the other 98.5% of the backlog on …

Homophobia, pure and simple

Also got to love the fact asylum claims were stable until brexit was implemented…
Maybe people were allowed in through our movement of people agreement with Europe but then when that was put to an end, some of the same peoples decided to claim asylum on various grounds? I actually havn't researched that at all so feel free to blow me out of the water. Just throwing it out there.

The Dublin agreement would count towards the numbers as those are asylum seekers.

Free movement of people wouldn’t but then again anyone coming to the UK from the EU who are EU residents now also wouldn’t show in those numbers as they wouldn’t be asylum seekers, they would have Visas.

Easiest way to solve a lot of the current problems is to create a safe dedicated route for those seeking asylum.

Would completely resolve the perceived need for the more dangerous attempts at crossings whilst hitting those abusive gangs heavily involved in the trafficking process.

But that doesn't sit well with the public. And that a high ranking minister feels comfortable making these sort of claims is part of the problem these days. Selective appearances on shows that won't challenge your claims, so people latch onto what you've said (helped by being on the right "team" of course) and repeat it until it becomes truth.

As someone from an immigrant family, seeing this sort of nonsense spouted by others of a similar background just confuses me. But unfortunately a lot of people want to climb the ladder then pull it up after them so no one else gets up with them. Also I guess as my family is mostly white (and in a few cases, white passing) no one cares.

Braverman truly is one of the scummiest Tories. Which is impressive.

Exactly this.

France has said they are open to a processing centre in Calais. It would require some negotiation but I would bet you might get agreement on the following:

1) processing centre in calais (or in multiple mainland countries.
2) all applicants are biometrical recorded
3) If someone who had their claim rejected or someone who never attempted to make a claim in France is found in the uk agreement to deport back to France.

If they solve the issue (which would be pretty easy), they would truly have nothing left to campaign on. They don’t care about immigrants, small boats, anything - what they do care about is being in a position that they can continue to line their pockets

The good old Conservative way.
Bring back the Empire and be damned...
All this damn wokery by snowflakes, they want to get on their bikes and get a real job.
Sorry, I'm turning bad and old.
