Versus - which is the better coaster?

Nemesis vs Jubilee Odysse

These are two british inverted coasters and in my mind both of them are world class coasters however the main contrast between the two coasters is the outstanding and tightness that Nemesis allow the riders to experience, whilst on the odysse the speed and the endless amount of inversions and scale of the rollercoaster are the elements that make's this ride spectacular.

Nemesis Jubilee Odysse
Ride Type: B&M Inverted Vekoma (SLC)
Cost: £10 Million £28 Million
Height: 43ft 167ft (Third Tallest in U.K)
Drop Height: 104ft 141ft
Speed: 50mph 63mph
Inversions: 4 5
G-Force 4G's 4.8G's

Topics to debate about!-Even though Nemesis is not as Tall, Fast and Expensive what makes it a more popular and thrilling coaster?-If the odyssey had theming like Nemesis's would it be the worls Number one Coaster?-Which coaster would you prefer to ride if it was your last rollercoaster this year?

Re: Nemesis vs Jubilee Odysse

Like the oblivion servery this is a bit pointless. This is an Alton Towers enthusiast site, so naturally all the support will be bias to Nemesis.

Re: Nemesis vs Jubilee Odysse

Slightly off topic, but how on earth did Jubilee Odysse cost £28 million? That seems way too expensive?

I've never been on Jubilee Odysse but I'd imagine Nemmy wins hands down, I don't think I could ever prefer an SLC to a B&M Invert!

:)

It's never been confirmed why it cost so much but one rumour I've heard many times is that it was the footers that bumped up the cost of the ride. Soft sandy soil (since it is almost sat on a beach) that required extensive foundations. That's the reason I've heard most often, still not convinced that £28 million was the real price tag though personally.

Odyssey is sublime through the drop and loop. Good through the first haf of the cobra roll, but then becomes a normal, medium paced, rattley SLC through the second half of the cobra roll and onwards IMO. It kind of fizzles out, unlike Nemesis which just keeps pounding you. Nemesis is the better ride IMO but Odyssey is a must do ride, just for the drop alone!

Re: Nemesis vs Jubilee Odysse

The Kit Kat sponsorship also cost a hefty amount plus they did make the footers and supports extremely strong and if skeggy was hit by a tsunami the jubilee odysee will still be only thing standing.

If anything, sponsorship would aid them as you don't pay people to be a sponsor, they pay you.

Regardless, I think the costs involved were due to the land its on and the fact it's so bleedin' tall, thus needing huge supports and even bigger foundations. Plus, SLCs are hardly known for having few supports are they? ;)

Re: Nemesis vs Jubilee Odysse

I'm sure I heard somewhere that the quoted £28M was the combined cost for Millennium and Odyssey.

I'd be careful Rob that's almost word for word what I said on TTF and someone took offence at the fact I hadn't been on it ::)

Can I just say that if we’re going to do these “vs” topics can we at least chose rides that can be compared. For example how about “Nemesis vs Raptor (Cedar Point)” or if we have to limit it to the UK how about “Nemesis Inferno vs Jubilee Odyssey” or “Oblivion vs Stealth”. Nemesis vs Jubilee Odyssey is just too obvious which ride is going to come out on top, especial as this is an Alton Towers fan site. Personally I think Air vs The Swarm would have interesting results, I’m not actually sure which ride would win that one.

Re: Nemesis vs Jubilee Odysse

The Odyssey has an immense first drop and the sidewinder is INTENSE on the front.

If people have been on it then fine, but too many people bitch without having set foot in Lincolnshire in their lives.

It's not quite Nemesis for all-round epicness, but it is one of the top 5 rollercoasters in the UK for sure.

Re: Nemesis vs Jubilee Odysse

Agree with consensus that these 'vs topics' arent really ever going to get anywhere due to the fact this is primarily an alton towers based community.

Also I dont think these rides are particularly comparable either, different manufacturer, one custom, one just a bigger version of an slc, one highly themed to a pinned down alien mid fight, one themed to a caravan site and a market.

I think thats as far as its ever going to go.

Re: Nemesis vs Jubilee Odysse

Why are you making these "Vs" polls? You dont make useful comparisons from what I've seen. As Tim said, at least compare it to another B&M invert (Maybe Black Mamba, Alpengeist, Montu or Batman for example) Also it's pretty obvious who's gonna win because, well it's Nemesis and this is also a Alton fansite

ADMIN EDIT: - Taken out some harsh wording. Ben

What's the point of topics like this? Even if this wasn't an Alton Towers fansite, one is considered by almost the entire community so much better than the other that it makes a topic like this simply absurd.

It's like saying 'which is better, Beethoven's Fifth Symphony or the new Cher Lloyd single?'

Re: Nemesis vs Jubilee Odysse

Those Hawker ranks don't mean anything, look at some of the trash that's ranked above The Odyssey.

Re: Nemesis vs Jubilee Odysse

With regards the versus topics, I have messaged the topic creator already to advise I plan on merging them all tomorrow, as they are very similar in nature.

Patience patience ;).

Re: Nemesis vs Jubilee Odysse

Ignoring the fact that nemesis is going to win which i obviously knew i wanted to show awarness of this coaster as it is very underestimated in the coaster community, also focus on these points please

Re: Nemesis vs Jubilee Odysse

Nemesis beat Odyssey 16-3 on mutual riders in the most recent MH poll, which is not as overwhelming as their relative ranking suggests. Odyssey only had 19 riders take the poll, which makes its positioning much less reliable than more widely ridden coasters.

The thing is Nemesis does not have great theming. It has some of the best landscaping, but the theming is above average at best. If you want to see an inverted ride with good theming go see Black Mamba. (< Follow the link for lots of awesome pictures). However Nemesis is much better than Mamba because it has a well paced layout which builds in intensity and barely lets up until the end.

I accept though that the point of this topic was to raise awareness of Jubilee Odyssey. I quite agree. It looks like a hugely underrated coaster which unfortunately doesn't get much attention because a) it is an SLC and they have a terrible record for being sub-standard rides and b) It is one of the only reasons to visit Fantasy Island. However why then did it need to be a "vs" topic to one of the best rides on the planet? Why not just make this topic about Jubilee Odyssey? I'd like to know more about it and I think it deserves its own topic.

Nemesis is so highly rated because of the intensity throughout the ride. Although as you say it doesn't have the height of JO, it uses the speed it gains throughout the first drop very cleverly through some tight elements that remain smooth due to the trademark B&M track. In contrast, SLC's are known for their roughness caused by the loose wheel bearings and sometimes the upstop wheels not touching the track.

Regardless of theming, Nemesis would be considered the better coaster due to those facts.

Re: Nemesis vs Jubilee Odysse

I completely forget that Jubilee Odysee exists - so this topic has only done so much as to make me wonder if I could get over there to ride it.

Didn't realise anyone rated it highly enough to warrant a visit!
