WDW Epcot: General Discussion

At the time it was always rumoured to be an indoor flat ride rather than a big dark ride. Can’t remember it ever been rumoured to be a dark ride.

Yeah I was expecting a carousel, I always thought it was mainly a walk-through attraction that was planned.

But they need something better anyway.

POV of Test Track 3. Looks a lot better than version 2, which always looked rather lazy to me. Still not keen on the dreamy techno-futurism style though.

Came here to post that myself. What have they done to it‽

The projection dome just before the "launch" is pretty impressive, but the rest? Urgh!

I think I hate it, though I'm having trouble putting exactly why into words. In general it feels like they're trying to capture the "there's a great big beautiful tomorrow" tone of original Epcot but only superficially. That kind of wide-eyed look at technology might have worked in the 80s and 90s but it seems completely off the mark at this point in history.

The story is completely disjointed but something like "here's what LIDAR looks like to a car", followed by the same moving vehicle overlay effect from Radiator Springs Racers, followed by a drive through the woods (???), culminating with a literal version of the "the world if" meme and a quick trip on a freeway.

Given that you can take a driverless Waymo cab in three or four cities already, very little of this is a vision of a bright future. I imagine that trying to future-proof a ride that is at its core a ride in a car is a difficult and potentially impossible task in 2025 but generic "The Jetsons but realistic" is certainly one way not to do it.

I'm visiting WDW in November so avoiding spoilers on the new version.

But the best one was still the first Test Track with the actual real world style tests. Given a good amount of that is still used it would actually make sense to have kept the safety test theme I think.
