As no one actually posts in the music topic and as this sort of thing has been done before, I'm going for a track-by-track of the first gig from the T2L tour.
Unsustainable
Classical/prog/spoken word/hard ock/brostep-ish-but-on-guitars looks and sounds huge. Bit disappointing Matt neglected to sing and the whammy is just controlled by MIDI/backstage rather than him using a pedal or sliding along the neck, but otherwise this could be the best intro they've ever had.
Supremacy
Already a live favourite. That falsetto is insane. I'd rather it open the encore though, the guitar at the start makes more sense as an opening. Matt, please leave the mic on the stand during the first verse, you look like a tit. Thanks.
Hysteria
Beefy as ever, the bass sounds every bit as good as it did at Reading. Don't like what Matt did at the ending, and no Back In Black? Will probably be rotated with MOTP.
Supermassive
Hello pyramid! As good as it's ever going to be unless they miraculously go back to the 'metal' version they used to do with the distortion and screaming. Bit of a lazy effort, but it's very enjoyable live.
Resistance
Why is this awful song not dead yet? No video because I couldn't be arsed.
Panic Station
More like it. Awesome track. Great visuals. No video because I've not found a good one.
Animals
One of the best songs they've made. Turns out after 20 years he's learnt how to actually play guitar properly.
Jam +
Explorers
New jam is dull dull dull, but Explorers sounds beautiful. With they hadn't dropped USOE.
Falling Down
I struggle to believe they even remember this song exists. Bit weird Matt saying he doesn't like playing Plug In Baby because he no longer relates with the emotions then plays this. But it sounds a lot better than I expected. Very blues-y.
Host + Time Is Running Out
A b-side from the 90s at a Muse gig. Incredible. Shame they cut the end off to jump into TIRO. It would sound ok if Matt played in on a different guitar. It's far too weak compared to the bass on this.
Liquid State
Chris sounds flatter than he dies on the album version, but he'll get better. Looks like a beast of a track live, shame they'll rotate it with Save Me and kill the momentum. Lots of potential for riffs.
Madness
Loses its intimacy in arenas, but this is 100000 times better than Undisclosed. Trying a bit hard with the video glasses and singing into the camera, the bellend.
Follow Me
Stunning visuals. Sounds great. But look at that. Matt's not playing an instrument. He's finally gone full Bieber and spends this song rolling around like a pop singer being dramatic. I don't care if he enjoys the freedom, he looks like a tit and it's clearly put on. It's about his son and he's pointing at people in the crowd. He played guitar at the warmup gigs, he can do it now. Again, it's Muse taking the easy option. Song is ruined. Cringe.
Undisclosed Desires
Why is this song not dead either? Not only does Madness make it redundant, it's the worst live song I've ever heard this side of Interpol. It sounds a little better now with more electronics, but Matt again doesn't play an instrument. Not even the keytar. Spends the song doing over the top hand gestures and shaking hands with the crowd. His Bono complex is now ruining them live as well as in the studio, the bad blert.
Plug In Baby
Not heard this 1000 times before. Meh. Will probably be rotated with Bliss.
New Born
So before this song they do a roulette wheel (idea stolen from Elvis Costello) on the screens to choose between this or the vastly superior and more consistent Stockholm Syndrome. Only they've already chosen what song to play and this is all faked to make it look random and spontaneous. Song starts and once again Matt doesn't play piano. Apparently 90 seconds of simple appregios are just too much, and like the TR tour, he just sings. Only with no towers there's no excuse this time, and to make it worse he walks around with the mic. Cringe. Again. And it's back to being slow and weak again. Why, oh why, so they think this should ever be played over their best live regular? Ending the main set like it did on the BH&R tour. Love the pyramid turning into televisions then inverting to swallow the band during the outro riff.
Isolated System (playback) + Uprising
Visuals are class! (Yes, Dom is ninja-ing bankers inside the pyramid!) Shame the pyramid just rises half way through though. Sounds better than last tour, which is surprising considering he no longer plays it with a FF guitar. Cool that they did Isolated System in playback during the break as well.
Survival
Not so bad live because it's easy to ignore the 'lyrics' and there's no choir. No videos yet.
Starlight
Hilariously out of place. No videos yet.
Knights Of Cydonia
Ending the set again. For the third tour in a row. Pathetic. No full video yet, but it looked like a lazy performance, and it sounds like he's still not playing the riff after the chorus until the outro and just doing that stupid harmonic thing again.
The stage is amazing, even better than Radiohead's, and the sound is incredible, but it's ruined by Bellamy thinking he's George Michael/Chris Martin/Bono/Justin Bieber/Take That/Some other pop dickhead. It was bad enough having Morgan do the New Born intro, but this is pathetic, and it's a dangerous precedent. Morgan will be chewing Matt's food at this rate. Truly, truly embarrassing. Also after this much time you'd think they'd know how to put a flowing setlist together, but at least it's a decent length for a change.
