Wicker Man - General Discussion - Part Two

That's more then likely true Ian but still issue a warning topeoplethinking about traveling. I understand with wickerman due to open the last thing they would want to do is risk reducing the amount of people attending but for me personally I would much rather of had a few days of them saying weather might affect opening and then a post today saying if it will or won't rather then days of nope we will be open nothing will stop us trust us come spend money we will look after you followed by a oops sorry we messed up
That's precisely why they haven't prepared people for it. They are terrified that if they issue a weather warning midweek they will lose a huge amount of park visitors for the weekend. For me this is a prime example of Towers putting their profits before their customers.

If I was Towers i'd tell all staff to turn up as normal (if they can) offer to pay them for their full day regardless of park opening. You can have them doing odd jobs, entertaining guests etc. Fun normal morning checks and have rides ready to open as and when they can and just generally go out of their way to provide the best possible day. I'd give free return tickets out at the gate in the morning so guests already have it in their minds that this is a freebie and so there will be less complaining and better reviews online.

It's an understandably complicated situation because of the distances people travel and the fact that they have on-site accommodation that can remain functional.

One thing that may leave a sour taste is this press event tonight. Imagine feeling disappointed about these recent events and then seeing all your favourite YouTube heroes posting images/videos all over the web about how great the new ride is. Maybe they should try and keep this a bit low key and put an embargo on updates until Sunday.

but are they not now losing even more money? Guests at the hotel that will leave to come back another day them rooms will still need to be cleaned and someone will have to be paid to do that. Even of the guests stay are they then not losing money for offering 50% discount for there next stay? It just doesn' make sense

If the forecast improves or the weather on the day is better than expected, do you guys reckon there's a chance they could still open the coasters?

They already offer 50% discounts on rooms with other offers so they won't be loosing much, it'll just be marketed as compensation when really they are just offering a corporate rate.

Maybe so, but return visits equal another opportunity to earn money. How many of these return customers will spend money in the resort? Merlin have been offering BOGOF tickets with cereal boxes for the last couple of years, I'm not sure the discount thing hits them as hard as you'd think. Besides, them return stays will be for specific days (probably when they are nowhere near capacity) and it's better to get 50% value for a room than to not sell it at all.

Think some are being a bit harsh on Towers here. We all knew a few days ago that the weather was potentially looking pretty terrible. It could have turned out that the weather would have been looking pretty alright by this morning. However, it wasn't, so they have taken action this afternoon to let guests know to expect a terrible offering tomorrow. Like I said before, they could have made some kind of announcement earlier today (morning ideally), but they're just reacting in real time to things out of their control. Even if they said they were monitoring the weather a few days ago, it would only be the same as we were doing when planning trips. They were never going to announce closures days before. I'm 100% sure that all at Towers would have wanted a great weekend opening for Wicker Man and the new season. The last thing they wanted to do was call off coasters for the opening day.

Completely agree about the return tickets to increase the mood of guests who have taken the trouble to attend. Also very strongly agree about the press event.

Don't disagree at all, but what about those with annual passes?

Do a Thorpe Park and give out three free fastracks per pass, always keeps them happy down south

Remember... there is a very small chance that they may be able to open the coasters! Admittedly, that chance is very small, but it's still there!

Why are Duel and Hex not scheduled to open is my question?

The number of staff that will be idle is insane, could easily put these to use getting paths gritted / making these attractions accessible.

Heck, even Sub Terra should be open, assuming the ride hardware is still in place (yes I know it's scheduled to be SBNO again this season, but surely it wouldn't be especially difficult to get it running). All indoor attractions should be operating as an absolute bare minimum requirement.

Otherwise just close.

Maybe Towers have decided that their staff are not going to be turning up for work?

Edit - Yeah, I get the point that you're making. I was too quick to reply there :)

This is why i'm wondering if Staff have been called off for the day and if this is the case then it's highly unlikely that anything other than whats been stated will be running.
Sub-Terra won't be able to open it probably hasn't had any safety checks considering it's not scheduled to open.

I think Towers, like the rest of us, assumed the weather forecasts were worst case scenario fear porn, and were hoping the more accurate later in the week forecasts proved it by downgrading the severity, like they do every other time they issue a weather warning.

Fear porn, the new scare attraction for Scarefest 2018 - makes you want to scream every time you come
