Wicker Man - General Discussion - Part Two

Looking forward to finally riding this in the dark in a few weeks time.

However as much fun as the Wicker Man is having been back on Troy and Joris the past few days it feels like a missed opportunity by Towers.

I feel that - given Alton's notorious height restrictions - it's as good as it possibly good be. It's a very decent rise, faster than expected, and the theming and experience are top notch for me at least

Wicker Man definitely could have been better. John Wardley had said that there were further things he would have liked to have changed or altered, had the ride not been so far into construction when he got involved.

I'd love to get on Troy, everyone raves about it.

Of the two GCI's ive done I would put Wicker Man on par with Wodan. And that says a lot about WM as Wodan is bloody brilliant.

They're completely different experiences though, Wodan is way more intense but WM is just pure fun.

Finally going on Wodan in a few weeks so looking forward to seeing how that matches up. Troy is relentless though, no let up from beginning to end.

You are right about Wicker Man though, for me it's the most fun ride at Towers.

Wodan is in a different league to Wicker Man in terms of track and train.

Wicker Man is better as a themed experience/story.

Wodan is superior in every aspect, bar the negatable presence of a massive central theming object. The general atmosphere and mystique plus the much more impressive structure of Wodan makes it a better queuing experience, and the ride is leagues ahead. It's taller than the average bungalow which immediately puts its speed and drop at an advantage over the miniature decline at the start of WM.

However, for those people who've not been on it, the WickerMan is very impressive.

Mostly agree with you but not convinced on the queuing experience. The outdoor queue on Wodan doesn’t really allow for a great view of the ride unlike Wickerman and the indoor queue is very pretty but you are completely isolated from the ride itself.

Wodan is a far better overall product, but I’m impressed with wickermans queue. It gives you a great view of the ride and builds things up nicely to the pre-show.
 
After hearing such plaudits for Wickerman all year, I finally got to ride recently. I’ve got to say that I just do not understand why people enjoy it so much.

Yes, the single large piece of themeing is impressive. In fact, perhaps the most impressive part of the ride. I also applaud the lighting efforts made, they’re great. The pre-show is also pretty decent.

Outside of that, I really struggle to see why the ride itself is of any note. It’s just rather... dull. I spent the entire ride waiting for something decent to happen. Add to that, the principle marketing USP has been the fire -when it doesn’t work, it’s kinda disappointing.

Mind you, I also think Troy is extraordinarily overrated.
