Just wanted to share the best picture I took of the ride with all of the actors in front

I imagine they're saying next Saturday to be on the safe side, but I'm sure it'll open as soon as the weather makes it reasonable to do so. I feel for Alton in this situation, to be honest. They've nailed everything for once, but the climate has betrayed them.

This weather is likely to be gone by Monday isn't it?

Yes, therefore I expect it will be open with the park on Monday. It's completely signed off, staffed and on the rota, and a nationwide marketing campaign has just kicked in. As such, I don't see any reason for the park to keep it closed unless they really have to.
I don't think the park will want to keep it closed unless they really have to. They will want to get it open as soon as possible.

Monday and Tuesday will now be busier than I hoped it would be but can't complain too much as we will still get to ride most likely and many have missed out this weekend.

Next weekend will be utterly chaos. Good luck to all those who are thinking of going. I wouldn't be shocked if WM gets a 3hr + queue next weekend.

I want to know about tommorow!!! Are we saying these could be a chance they did say that if the weather improves it will open on Sunday

It’s almost definitely not going to open tomorrow after today.

You've got no chance mate. Ride operating staff are being asked to stay at home for the weekend.

Why do you think so? I know Wicker Man is opening next weekend, but another member said that the ride doesn't seem to have made as much of an impact as Thirteen and Smiler.

Very disappointed with the day, but on a positive note what I saw of the ride and shop looks excellent, definitely another level compared to anything in the UK.

The live actors were excellent and actually very funny, plenty about too. Hopefully this is kept up!

Just got back from Towers, it was a good laugh in the end! Wicker Man looks stunning, really looking forward to riding it next weekend now. I must also praise Towers for what they have done in turning the Tavern into the Welcome-Inn, top work.

Could Wicker Man have opened today? I'm pretty sure it could have. Have I ridden rides in worse conditions than today? Yes. So did Towers make the right decision to keep most rides, including Wicker Man, closed? Well yes actually.

Clearly snow was not the problem, and I think some coasters could have operated in the temperatures we have seen today. However it has been very gusty, and it would only take one gust of wind right at the wrong time for Alton Towers to have a PR disaster on their hands. It just was not worth the risk.

:)

Agreed, as Rob said the decision was justified, especially past 11:30am this morning as the weather took a turn for the worse, however it was just annouced way too late and I would hope that Towers will learn from this in the future.

They may learn and move future park opening to April

I think it will be a double whammy.
You will have all the people who planned on going next weekend anyway plus loads from this weekend who have missed it going back

Could also be a third factor if they don't open it midweek too but I suspect they will.

I reckon the queues will be horrendous personally.

I really don’t see why people or moaning - AT have done the corr ct thing here for ones to ensure safety of guests and staff - what if a breakdown happened or an accident due to weather on the way home?

I know it’s disapointing and money down the drain but at least your alive still!
