My heart bleeds.

Although it's deeply embarrassing that the park, not content with it being two months late at least, have made the decision after the season has already started, to keep rides closed to give them selves more time to not be even more late.

I think they have had issues getting the bottom of X-Sector clear for 10am (X-Sector hasn't opened to guests until at least 10am this week). Think they have just found it easier to get Smiler stuff done having a longer window to get stuff to the site in a morning.

I got a brilliant idea, why not shut Enterprise and Submission for a month or so to aid the building of the smiler ;)

Last year, when they said Subs and Ents would be SBNO, we (myself included) all complained. It turns out that given all the cuts that followed, closing two minor rides would have been the lesser of many evils.
So this time round, if they are going to be open late for the sake of cracking on with construction... I'm all for it!

Don't think they need to, they just need to get the stuff they will be putting up that day on site and i imagine they can't get it done before 10am.

Pleased that they have announced this, though I did think that if it did happen that they would shut the rides permanently for a couple of months leaving them with a bit more room. Either way, anything that will aid the speedy construction of The Smiler is good in my books!

we really need a sarcasm smiley. i was doing a tongue in cheek reference to the SBNO idea to aid construction last year.

It's great to see them making the effort to keep the disruption to a minimum with the other rides, and hopefully those extra 2 hours should be more than enough time for them to keep the project on track, and maybe even claw back some lost time if they're lucky :)

Best of all though is the fact that they're only closing two supporting rides, and keeping their headline ride running normally! A very wise move :D

Sorry, i'm really really dim

:p

I don't see why anyone would have a problem with this.*

They could quite easily go "well it does state in our T&Cs we're under no obligation to have all rides open, so lets close them for two months no one will care" - instead they're keeping the rides open throughout The Smiler's construction, just with a later opening to allow the construction to still go ahead smoothly.

It's a win-win in my eyes. Considering most of us thought the whole of X Sector would be closed for a month or two Alton Towers are going about things great when all things are considered! Clearly they are thinking things through and have some more sense this year!

*Just to say, this is more aimed at people who have been moaning on Faffbook rather than in this topic.

After last weekend, I don't think this will be effecting to many people on park

So far this season (and obviously it is early days) it looks like Chessington is going to be the focus of most of my ranting. I actually can't fault towers over this.

Okay who are you and what have you done with our Diogo????

:D

In seriousness there is a practical reason for this closure so i agree with it too. Might also prove to Merlin the geeks don't grumble when they make a similar decision as a year ago but for decent reasons.

They might as well not have bothered mentioning Submission - it will only affect the 3 people that actually ride it before 12pm anyway. ;)

Don't you mean the 3 people who ride it a day? ;)

People ride it? I assumed it was a broken water feature.

Can't complain about the later opening. It's a very sensible decision and frankly by the time I've fluffed about at the gates, had a coffee, had a piss, had another coffee and realised where the bloody hell I am X Sector is going to be open anyway.

Both sides were working individually anyway. They obviously haven't managed to solve the issue to get them both at the same time!

The other side wasn't working at the end of last season, it was broken, so they have fixed something over closed!
