Your Theme Park Ideas and Concepts

Hi there people. As many of us Theme Park Fanatics/Enthusiasts have an obvious passion for Theme Parks, that being obvious, I've always wondered if some of us out there have had an idea or 2 for Theme parks or specific attractions on what you would do with them, like rethemes or flat out new attractions and areas. What are your ideas and concepts you've thought of throughout the years?

Perhaps you could start us off with some of your own ideas. :)

Okay, Dont mind if i do :)

Well, here's one of them anyway. I believe that Drayton Manor still feels like it's lacking something in terms of attractions for everyone to enjoy, so I though why not reuse Pirate Adventures Show Building for a new Dark Ride.

Theme:

Not sure what to call it yet, but the main story is of a victorian buisness man who dedicates himself to create a multitude of ideas based from Children's Imagination. The style will be very 80s British/Animation Style (Danger mouse/ The Beano and the Dandy) The ride will be filled of creative gags and quirky sets of all kinds.

He has converted his household into a fully functioning Workshop, where all of his ideas originate from, even including his workers, consisting of Old childhood memories such as Teddy Bears, Tropical Animals, Unique Beings, and dont forget our own Oompa Loopa Ripoff. Havent got a name for the ride yet, but i think it'll fit the park very well as it's now aiming more over at Families than Thrill Seekers. The ride will consist of Impressive Practical props, animatromics and colourful sets.

The whole Pirate area will be rethemed to this, with Jolly Buccaneer replaced with a fountain of Traditional English Design. Even did a couple of Designs on Paper during my free time. The Facade will be where Pirate Adventures Facade still sits currently, but is elevated slightly, and the entrance will be located around the corner, hugging the Show Building.

Layout:

Pirate Adventures trough is mostly kept the same, but the boats will now only carry 5-6 passengers, and the ride system will be completely new, and the rides duration will be less of Pirate Adventures, now reduced to 4:30-5 minutes. The only major change to the Layout is seen on the pages below. The grey section highlighted is the altered part of the Layout.

Let me know what you think and how I could improve it ;)

Ok then, been trying to find the right thread to put these ideas up and at last...here we are! It's time for some Alton Towers alternate history in which what if Merlin did things right and were willing to spend a little more than they did? For some things I might say for internet slang, here are some of things I'll say

OTL = Our timeline
ITTL = In this timeline

So anyway, let's begin...

  • 2008:
    • Pretty much the same as with OTL in which Mutiny Bay opens and Corkscrew closes though it is here that things start to change the following year...
  • 2009:
    • SW6 is not being built in Ug Land but rather in Gloomy Wood in the area in which some years ago was the site of an April fools Vekoma bike model.
    • Ug Swinger is still moved to Cred Street which still gains its CCL theming much like with OTL and Ug Land as of a result still carries on though is more of a shell of its former self than before.
  • 2010:
    • Thirteen opens in GW that while still has the freefall drop element though ITTL it has a different outside layout due to surrounding area however it has a bit more airtime and more importantly, it is marketed correctly not as a high thrill ride but rather as a mystery to keep guests guessing at what lies within the building (the whole GMTV live thing doesn't blow the reveal but keeps it hidden). As of a result, Thirteen opens to a somewhat more positive reception though some fans are still disappointed that it is more for families.
    • At the same time that Thirteen opens, the money that in our timeline that would have gone to retheme Ug land instead is poured into Duel in which reopens for 2010 as the Haunted House and brought back to its former glory, much to the joy of fans though some guests are left disappointed that the shooting element is gone. That said, rather tediously AT mark the revised Haunted House as a 'new' attraction for 2010.
    • Finally, much like with our timeline, Spinball is still rethemed to Sonic (still being classed as 'new') and Corkscrew's elements are still there at the entrance to the park.
  • 2011:
    • As we all know, this is the year that the Shrek 3D show was suppose to be opened but fell apart meaning that Towers would for the first time there would be no new rides or attractions then...not so here. Thanks to a far greater 2010, Merlin decide to thrown in a little more money into the place such as more entertainment for park guests though Towers do save some money for the long-term all thanks to their new attraction...
    • Opening for 2011 is something very different is opened to the public...The Alton Towers Museum. As it is, this is a museum built inside the Towers (the first attraction to open in there since Hex) and would be based towards the eastern end of the Towers near X-Sector and would likely be built inside the large area on the other side of Hex's queue. It would based on not just many of the past rides being represented such as a ride car from Corkscrew, one of the Swan boats, some theming from Toyland Tours etc (ITTL, I'd like to think that in Towers boneyard they have had some of theme remaining in storage in which they are instead brought out, given some final TLC before finally going on display) but also giving a history of the park and of the Towers themselves for guests who have no knowledge about the place.
    • Beastie would still be announced as never to open again and one of the ride cars goes into the museum.
    • As the season ends, Towers manages to hold a steady 3 million guests for 2011 that it gives the indication to Merlin that all they have to do is keep the momentum going and not screw it up which leads us into a very different 2012...
  • 2012:
    • The main thing to point out is that NST is very different to OTL in which instead of being a drop tower ride is in fact a Mack dark ride system that has the shooting element in place (this would built as a way of appeasing guests who were disappointed in 2010 that HH never had the shooters anymore) and the ride building is about twice the size of the OTL NST building which can just about fit in a dark ride system. The plot of the ride is somewhat different in which while guests are still going many miles down (with no shouting staff) the difference is that rather then going to see an egg, it turns out that Nemesis eggs have hatched after being discovered by workers down there and the danger is that many of them are heading to the surface and guests find themselves being roped in to shoot and the hatched Nemesis babies to make sure they don't reach the surface. Perhaps not surprisingly, the ride opens to a far better reception than compared to OTL for sure. However NST is not the only thing that is happening in FV.
    • At the same time as NST opens, FV is seeing a major change regarding Air for thanks to a lot more spare funds out there, Air would see a major transformation not just with some tweaks from B&M but as part of the ride's 10th anniversary, the ride would be fully rethemed into its original 'Oasis' concept, something that Towers would call the 'Remastered' events in which much of that area of the park goes under such a major change that it actually see's itself become its own separate area from FV being called Forgotten Oasis that is themed to a relaxing paradise that is themed to what FV looked before Nemesis ruined it all and that Air is themed to a spirt that is there to not only protect that area but battle Nemesis...a classic good vs evil thing there. Air's show building is cosmetically change to be that of a rockface in which guests enter a cave system to take their ride and yes, the tunnel finally gets some theming...rockface! :p The queue line area is rerouted slightly to up via the hill in which the queue area near the final helix is cleared back as part of future development while the area near the break run is not only giving some theming touch ups from palm trees and waterfalls but also has that are turned into a viewing area for guests just wanting to see the coaster without riding. So yeah, that certain retheming years later never happens here and thus, Air is here to stay!
    • Following the success of the 'Remastered' events, this gives the idea that other attractions could get it next.
    • Ice Age 4D never happens for the CCL theatre for with entertainment still a thing at Towers and as of a result, shows will still play out of there though would see not the same show each season.
  • 2013:
    • So yeah, Smiler still opens much like with OTL though there are some key differences ITTL. Construction is not as shambolic like in OTL and the ride does open earlier than OTL though only by just a week after the 2013 season starts. The ride's queue line now has a set of preshow videos much like Oblivion in which here they do come of as a parody of Oblivion with a lot of black humour thrown in in which themed to resemble that of those cheerful 1960's adverts, they are telling guests of how to make themselves feel better and not act like those other poor fellows...anyway, the ride itself has two small but major differences; the ride cars have lap bars and the loading bay has two platforms instead of one with a system like that with Oblivion which does help Smiler's capacity problems for sure and all in all, the ride is ofc a success with no real trouble at all building it.
    • Finally, X-Sector does get the TLC needed much like with OTL so no change there.
  • 2014:
    • Now then, this is where things get different in which for starts, CBeebies Land never happens. Yes, big change there as you'd think Merlin would go with an IP here but instead after the success Towers had in actually exploiting more of the brand of their attractions and perhaps more cheaper than using an IP to get attention, it is decided to Storybook Land is to undergo a major change for the 2014 season in which it and Adventureland and both grouped together to create a new larger themed area called Fantasy Forrest (acting as a mirror image to GW) in which not only has much of the rides and theming refurbished such as Squirrel Nutty Ride and Bookworm are all restored to their former glory with the latter having a new voice audio for the new area. Old MacDonald's Farm is never part of the change so as of a result it remains as is though does see some TLC for the 2014 season.
    • With Adventureland now part of the new area, there are some changes in which the biggest is that on the site of the now long gone Beastie is a new Mack YoungSTAR coaster called Woody Rocket which is a typical standard YoungSTAR clone coaster and the first on the part that is not a unique layout much like other rides and is lightly themed to mad invention from Squirrel Nutty himself attempting to creating a rocket from logs. Speaking of which, Squirrel Nutty is much more seen as a walkabout character and the ice show tent is taken down and replaced by a more permeant ice show building in which a new ice show is put in place to help bolster the park's entertainment line-up.
    • Sonic Spinball is not themed into the new surrounding area which does mean it sticks out slightly from the rest of the area and rumours are there that its time is coming to an end on several forum sites...
  • 2015:
    • Now then, to get the elephant in the room out of the way, no, the Smiler crash never happens here though the Enchanted Wood accommodation still opens much like with OTL.
    • This season instead becomes the year of the 'Remasters' in which Ripsaw, Enterprise and Blade (all Huss rides no less) are all dismantled during the 2014 closed season and are replaced with the newer models of each version with the 'new' Ripsaw being built as one of the suspended Top Spin rides with some new effects and theming and the new Enterprise is based on the newer generation of the model and is given a new black and teal colour scheme to match in with X-Sector.
    • This is also the year that many old favourite characters return such as Henry and Henriette Hound return to the park after many years and Merlin have actually started to make comic adventures of the characters with some plans even going for a possible TV series in the future to really market the Towers brand.
    • Much like OTL, Charlie still closes.
    • During this time, serious building work is going on in Ug Land on the site of where Corkscrew was.
    • To end the year on a shock, Sonic Spinball is confirmed to leaving at the end of the season with the ride being sold off to another UK park while on of the ride cars will stay to be placed in the museum and finally, it is also announced that Ug Land will close at the end of the year too and that the Flume will also make way for future developments.
  • 2016:
    • Thanks to the rather wise investment, many good attractions and with Towers now having attendance that is touching towards the 4 million mark, it is fair to say that things are on a roll here with Towers still having some loose change in their pocket and for 2016, Ug Land is given a new retheme to become Thunder Rock Valley, the theme that was somewhat with Rita on opening but here it is now part of the new look of the area in which now the previous dinosaur theme is now all themed to a 1950's style American racing circuit. The new area is one that has a rather mixed opinion in which while many will say that at least finally Rita fits into the area built around its theme of racing, many though miss the dinosaur theming and say that the new Thunder Rock Valley theme feels a little bit more bland with its 1950's Americana feel being more straight compared to the previous whacky theme.
    • The main standout for what would be on the site of Corkscrew would be none other than a Mack Spinning Coaster called 'Drifter' in which is themed to, ofc, cars drifting corners much like how Rita is themed to drag racing and almost in tribute to Corkscrew, it also is painted yellow though has purple supporters. It becomes clear as to why Spinball left as the new ride does take many elements of that ride and improves on it greatly and soon enough, almost everyone says it is a far better attraction in comparison to Spinball.
    • During this time, Rita itself had during the closed season a major overhaul or 'Remastered' as Merlin's media team would like to call it, in which the ride would have not only a fresh lick of paint of red track and now dark blue supporters, but also a new station roof to cover riders which is very welcomed and such as rebuild queue line which is no longer the infamous cattle pen system as before. Despite this though, this far from the only thing to happen with the ride. Intamin were brought in to give the ride several new changes such as its station area now having a double loading area as shown with Oblivion and Smiler to help with capacity the ride has suffered and create a one way system in which riders exit via from the right side of the trains. Perhaps the biggest set of changes are with its cable launch system (which famously snaps in 2012 much like with OTL) being converted into a LSM system and that its highest point on the ride has been converted into a barrel roll which gives the ride a inversion. To top it all off, the ride is also given brand new lap bar trains that help improve comfort and the ride from then on is given a bit more of a positive reception even by those who thought low of it.
  • 2017:
    • Hex returns fully refurbished like in OTL, however with no Smiler crash ITTL, the attraction wasn't shut for much of 2016 as was the case with many other rides.
    • The main attraction for 2017 is not Cbeebies hotel here but instead it is original planned expansion for the Alton Towers hotel such as a much larger Spa complex and new wing of suits which all comes to fruition here.
    • There is a new attraction that replaces Submission which closes, to little to no fanfare, at the end of the 2016 season to be replaced by a brand new Intamin Suspended Twin Hammer ride which strangely still calls itself as Submission though much like how there was the case of calling Black Hole as Black Hole II following a refurb, Submission does get called as Submission MK2.
  • 2018:
    • SW8 opens on the site of the Flume and yes it is a woody though not called Wicker Man but instead called 'Kraken' which themes itself more closely with Mutiny Bay than the current OTL theme. The ride itself is pretty much the same though with a different story regarding the great sea monster the ride is named after.
    • As part of its 20th anniversary, Oblivion is also giving some TLC such as fresh paint job (with Smiler getting some too as to make sure one or the other don't look groggy compared to the other) and some changes to the queue line such as much covered areas which as the riders in darkness with some orange tinted lights and of course the ride preshow films playing out.
  • 2019:
    • Stargazing Pods open much like OTL though on the park sees a few changes in which in Fantasy Wood, two S&S Frog Hoppers are built called 'Wood Hopper'. If you haven't already guessed, this is pretty much OTL Peter Rabbit ride.
    • CCL however is undergoing a major change in which as part of a three stage building job that will that area as well as the building for Charlie and finally reopening Coaster Corner into an all new larger area to be called 'Port Discovery', an steampunk concept that many years ago had been proposed for X-Sector and as such will act as mirror image to the sinister view of the future as what is seen in the latter. The first major change in the area is Twirling Toadstools is gone and in its place is a Garmendale Quadstar Aerial Roundabout flat ride called 'Steel Hawks' which has all the steampunk theming of flying machines in action, pretty much OTL Vroomster ITTL. The other new attraction in the area and headline one too is inside the Wobble World being a Spin master ride called 'The Time Machine' which is ofc themed to novel by H.G Wells and if you haven't guess then yes, this is pretty much OTL's GG ride though themed to H.G Wells in which here guests go on a wild journey through time.
    • Finally, the Cuckoo Cars Driving School is also giving a steampunk retheme though admittedly I'm unsure of what they should be renamed.
    • Much like OTL, the Swiss Cottage gets work done on it.
  • 2020:
    • Yeah, pretty much everything the same from OTL happens ITTL too, however the new attraction for the area is a rebuilt Around the World In 80 Days attraction in the same area of Charlie and ofc is based on the novel by Jules Verne and sees a full circle moment in which the ride that was originally there finally returns, though it would not open until the following year all due to Covid.
  • 2021:
    • 80 Days does open for the 2021 season, completing stage two of Port Discovery though one key difference here is that with a number of flat rides around Towers, far more so than OTL, there is no need for the Retro squad to be there though is one flat ride added for Fantasy Wood being a Zamerla ride, a Lolly Swing built on the site of Spinball and is called Treetop Swingers.
    • Over in Port Discovery, the area that was once Coaster Corner sees some major work for what will not only see that area of that park opened up further for the first time in years, with rumours of access to the Flag Tower now possible, but that the park's newest attraction would be based on site though curiously is not SW9 as some fans might think.
  • 2022:
    • Opening for the 2022 season, though missing the opening day by a month due to various glitches, the third and final stage for Port Discovery opens is the park's first enclosed roller coaster called 'From the Earth to the Moon'. Named after the book by Jules Verne, the ride is a Vekoma Space Warp Launch Coaster in which takes guests on a voyage to the moon and though it does take a lot of heavy influences from DLP's Space Mountain, it is different in its own right for there is no cannon but a simple launch system nonetheless indoors with the ride being tightly built inside a small space with two inversions to boot and an onboard soundtrack, the first for any UK ride to have this technology installed.
Phew, that took ages to write that all up. But yeah, my fantasy version of Towers throughout Merlin ownership if done well. Few things I might have missed out but feel free to answer any questions you might have about any of it. Nice to get all these ideas out of my head after so long.

Ok then, been trying to find the right thread to put these ideas up and at last...here we are!
Wow, just... wow...

This is beyond Brilliant!!!!

Apart from Th13teens location and The Indoor Roller Coaater concept, you've practically made the ideal UK Theme Park, and probibly be one of the best in the world, outside of Disney and Universal. A mix with old and new, while keeping the charm and feeling of the Park coherent.

To me, this timeline feels more like if Tussauds managed to survive the late 2000s, but had to Sell Chessington and Thorpe Park to Merlin to continue existing. In a way, Tussauds would treat Alton like it's only child left alive, cherishing it and giving it everything it needs for the better, and you kept the situations very reasonable and believable.

Unfortunately, I also have a couple of criticism of it, but there minor, so don't worry.

Th13teens Location.

I've said this elsewhere, but I think Th13teens location in Gloomy Wood is a terrible Idea, but in the concept you've put it in, it's ideal.

From the Earth to the Moon Indoor Coaster:

Yeah, sorry bud, but Disneyland Paris have already beaten you to that, since 1995... but also check it out, Space Mountain From The earth to the moon, what a ride it looked to be...

All in all, this concept of an alternative Timeline is practically flawless apart from the 2 above.

10/10

Merlin, I found your new CEO. Now pair him up with JAperson, as I've requested!

Thanks for that. Regarding the two issues, I understand about Thirteen in GW though the thing is I do like the theming about the ride if you ignore the scaffolding job and surrounding area. Thing is though that I'm not a fan of what they've done of having two spooky forest themed areas on the park and to me it would work better if they just combined the two into one area that already has a spooky wood theme so that's why I decided on GW. That said if Dark Forest was never that theme in the first place and something totally different then this situation would never have happened plus let's be brutally honest about Duel...IMO the only way it would get good money spent on it is if a big new ride was to open in the area, look at X-Sector when Smiler was open when it got TLC, that would never have happened if Smiler never happened so as much as my fantasy view of the park, I have to keep it in the grounds of realism by following traits the park has done over the years and thus this being one example.

Now regarding From the Earth to the Moon. Yes I'm aware that it would be based of Space Mountain though I did think about calling it Black Hole to remember the original ride though having all the steampunk theming which could be themed to rather dangerous trips to explore black holes. Funnily enough, Black Hole did get some steampunk theming when X-Sector was opened and is probably the closest we ever got to Port Discovery on park. Thing is though I had to mix it up in which after a revised Haunted House, Around the World in 80 days and all the flat rides that have been remastered, the danger is that ITTL, Towers would possibly be accused of playing with nostalgia which can be a double edged sword in which bringing back old names would go down well with some yet does possibly doesn't seem to encourage new concepts.

Anyway, I'm interested to hear which some of those many concepts I presented did you really like or would have loved to have seen if real?

Call me a looney here, but I actually... like... Dark Forest. Its got good music, and I think has some great offride photos options.

You're in point thay for Duel to get its work done to it, it's old and needs to involve Th13teen in the area to make the area refurbishment and look brand new and drag guests into the park.

Onto The Indoor ride though, I'm bot sure if you're referring to the regular Space Mountain, at WDW and DL, but in referring to Paris version when it originally opened, having its steampunk theme and story all about Jules Vernes book of From the Earth to the Moon. I'd still love to see Port Discovery to become a reality in the future when TWODW expires its licence. Here's a POV of what I'm on about, talking about Space Mountain.

Trust me, you'll be fine on the whole "Nostaliga overuse" situation. Six Flags over Tezas has been doing it for a while now, they've brought back 2 old attractions dating from the 60s, one of them being a walkthrough, while the other is a fully fledged Dark Ride, that being Pirates of Speelunker Cave. It may be tweaked from the original Speelunker Cave, but it still has that same characters, feeling and style from the original.

If Six Flags aren't getting complains from it, why should Alton Towers?

Hmm, you are from what I can see on TS or any coaster enthusiast community as the only one who seems to like Dark Forest when everyone else seems to have a low opinion of it, myself included! :p Though in all seriousness when I first heard about DF's theme I was looking forward to it though was left underwhelmed by how cheap the whole area looked and my opinion on the area hasn't improved in which as I've already mentioned that we already have GW, did we really need another scary woods area in the park? If it had been a happier theme to contrast GW then I'd be fine with which is why you'll notice in my version how there are mirror images to each area such as X-Sector and Port Discovery being contrasting views of the future. So s much as having Thirteen in GW might not have been everyone's cup of tea, let alone if it had been possible to build it there, it would have been cheaper to have used all that money to refurbished Duel as opposed to the work they did for DF.

And another thing you mentioned of how the point of diversion could happen in which Tussauds keeps Towers and sells the rest to Merlin which I didn't think about so thanks for the idea! 👍Interesting butterfly effects in which perhaps Thorpe still has a family market and probably gets Cbeebies Land instead. Interesting to see how the UK theme park industry will go now with more competition at stake...and another thing, I highly doubt we'd get the Oblivion Fanta debacle here! :p

I really need to plan out an alternative M&D's or Loudoun which I'd like to set in the same universe as what I did with Towers if anyone wants to see it and that will be a challenge!

Ok then, since you all liked my Alton Towers alternate history look, now its time for something a bit more dear to my heart in which Scotland in the same alternate universe gets a proper theme park in which Loudoun doesn't open here and M&D's is actually good!

This is the alternate timeline in which what if Scotland did have a good theme park which shockingly is more plausible than you think if only the Taylor family joined forces with a certain pair of Dutch brothers...
  • 1995
    • Prior taking over a patch of land in Strathclyde, the M&D's Group, run by the Taylor family, receive a call from south of the border in which is none other than the Bembom Brothers, the Dutch owners of Dreamland Margate who were planning to sell of the park following the park's falling attendances and the search for a new opportunity. By great good fortune, the Bembom discover that a new theme park, or rather amusement park, is planning to open next to Glasgow and with no major competition to challenge the new park unlike what had happened with Dreamland Margate and put forward a proposal to join forces to help make the park the best location it can be.
    • At first, the Taylor family is wary of such a move fearing a loss of independence of their own plans and how this could affect them on the travelling fairground circuit. However when more of the details from the Bembom side comes through showing not only that they have the experience and some money to help out in the venture, but also make a deal that if the two companies were to merge to form into a more stronger business then the Taylor side could carry on with their fairground circuit activities as long as the Bemboms can carry out with the design view of the park. With this agreement done, the two sides form the company Bembom-Taylor Ltd, or B&T for short, and thus construction on the new theme park takes place. Thus marks the POD of this piece of alternate history and construction work takes place throughout 1995 and into the next year.
  • 1996
    • Following the selling of Dreamland Margate much like what happened in OTL, there are now large funds in place in which the new company acquire a large section of land around Oribiston for, hopeful, future expansion (the cemetery near the top is never built here) and it is decided that the new theme park shall be named Strathclyde Wonderland. The park opens for the summer of 1996 and while the area of the park remains the same size as OTL though with more sectioned areas as apposed to just being built on what could be seen as a car park, there is a major differences in which that on opening day there is a Schwarzkopf coaster in the form of Looping Star, the very coaster from Dreamland that had closed just two years ago is brought north of the border to act of the park's flagship ride (this very ride actually went to Loudoun in 1995 but since that park doesn't happen here, it instead goes here.
    • Looping Star is marketed as the largest coaster in Scotland (being built roughly were Tornado in OTL was built) and with the park's easy access from Glasgow and even Edinburgh, the park in its first year is a success and plans are put in place for 1997 to be bigger as now with certain impressed Scottish business owners at how things have gone, more funds are put forward and yes, there is still ofc a Pinfari Big Apple coaster as you expect! :p.
  • 1997
    • Several of the fairground attractions that were there for last year are replaced with some more more permanent editions mainly thanks to Huss Rides being brought which include an Enterprise, Swinging Ship and a Troika. A themed pirate area of the park is opened towards the northern end of the park and called 'Pirate's Cove' (OTL's name for Loudoun's pirate area) while the entrance of the park is rethemed and named 'Buchanan Street' which is obviously based heavily on ofc the real Buchanan Street in Glasgow though it is not as grand as other theme park entrances though does feature much of the park's shops and restaurant facilities.
    • The end of the year would have the B&T Ltd acquire the Schwarzkopf coaster 'The New Beast' from Alton Towers which was to close at the end of the 1997 season and would be opened at Strathclyde Wonderland for the 1998 season.
  • 1998
    • The New Beast, now named Rattlesnake, is opened for the start of the 1998 season and is built alongside Looping Star to which that area of the park is nicknamed 'Coaster Corner' and is a hit with most guests with park attendance starting to hit 500,000 by the end of the year.
    • Also opening that same year in the Pirate's Cove area of the park is a new three way waterslide attraction called Moby's Revenge (this is pretty much the same as OTL ride at M&D's though this time built in a different area of the park.
    • Towards the end of the year, ground works take place to the northern end of the park as expansion work begins with a new area hoping to be opened for the following year.
  • 1999
    • The park now sees expansion to its borders with a new haunted themed area known as Dark Wood with its new attraction being the park's first and more expensive attraction to be built is a Mack dark ride named 'Strathclyde Manor'. While the attraction itself is nothing more than a typical haunted house ride, it does prove that the park is starting to grow into itself looking forward and this is only just part one of the area.
  • 2000
    • The new millennium opens with the park's largest coaster and the first with what would be the park's long standing relationship with Vekoma...a Invertigo coaster. Funnily enough, this would not be the first Vekoma or even Boomerang coaster to be built in Scotland with first being a Boomerang coaster built for the 1988 Glasgow Garden festival which would move to American Adventure to finally moving to Pleasurewood Hills where to remains to this day.
    • The new Invertigo is named 'Vine Snapper' and built alongside Strathclyde Manor with it's supporters painted black and track a dark green with the ride not only being the tallest coaster to be built in Scotland but also its first inverted coaster, the ride is a major success and by this point the park is on a roll with how it is looking to the future.
  • 2001
    • More expansion has the park heading northwards with an all new themed children's farmed theme area named 'Dougal McDougal's farm (pretty much the same as OTL themed area at Loudoun) which takes on a rather American' style farm theme with its barn shapes being those designs. (The rides it has being the second hand attractions being OTL Pony Express and, dare I say, poor Loggers Leap open in this area though also has a farmed themed Merry Go Round to go into the area.)
  • 2002
    • Thanks to a major sponsorship deal with Irn Bru, 2002 would be the year in which the park became serious in which it would open its largest coaster, a giant seven looping Vekoma coaster which would be a clone of some sort of Goudurix at Parc Astrix in France though had several differences in which it's opening and rough two inversions are replaced with a double sea serpent roll and many areas of the ride have been smoothed out as best as possible though it remains rough as one expects from Vekoma though nowhere near as bad as its French sister. The ride is named Tornado with its track painted red and supporters black and is built into another new area to the east side of the park called 'Area X', a secret military themed area which also includes the Enterprise ride moved to this new area of the park and the ride itself would match with this theming.
    • The ride is a huge success for the park in which the ride puts the park firmly on the map though in terms of inversions, its seven inversions come up short against Colossus' ten at Thorpe Park though nonetheless it is a huge ride to be built for the UK theme park industry.
  • 2003
    • After such an large investment and from the other previous years, Strathclyde Wonderland will take more conservative investments with 2003 seeing just a Huss Top Spin being built in Area X for the season that helps bolster the ride line up in that area.
    • The year though would see costumed mascot characters such as Roary the Lion who'd become the main mascot character for the park (much like OTL)
  • 2004
    • Though not fully funded by the park, nearby as part of a joint programme with the Council and with Strathclyde park, the new Strathclyde Wonderland Hotel opens which turns the theme park into a resort (this is pretty much just the same as OTL's Alona hotel though under the Wonderland name).
  • 2005
    • For the 2005 season, the water ride Stowaway from Margate that closed the previous year reopens at Wonderland for the new season as Drunken Barrels which is built as a water dark ride (the first dark ride on the park since Strathclyde Manor) which has guests travelling through a cave in which guests meet up with pirates finding lost treasure (the same as OTL's Drunken Barrels though this time enclosed.)
  • 2006
    • Another quiet year follows for the park with much of its temporary flat rides being sold and replaced by more permanent rides though by this point the park now hits the millionth guest mark by the end of the year in which makes the park as one of the most visited places in Scotland.
  • 2007
    • Following the closure of certain parks around the UK the previous year, Strathclyde Wonderland did step in to snatch up several rides and even some theming second hand with the hope that all of which would be used in the long term. The first to arrive is Southport's S&S tower ride named Barnstormer which is placed in the farm area of the park (it and the theming is pretty much the same to OTL's version) and is the park's, and even in all of Scotland's, first major tower ride to be built.
  • 2008
    • The wild west theming that had been taken from American Adventure and placed in storage in Strathclyde's backstage area are finally put to good use in which would finally see both Looping Star and Rattlesnake, both of which having seen no change since they first opened as to was that unthemed area of the park which was now starting to look poor compared to the rest of the park which was now seeing much of the areas all seeing theming.
    • The new area would be given a wild west theming and simply called 'Wild North West' with Looping Star and Rattlesnake both getting a new coat of paint to blend in with some added theming with also a new ride opening in the area being another second hand Zamperla wagon themed ferris wheel called High Sierra in which it would still keep its former name in its new home. With this would mean all the areas of the park would all see a theme of some kind.
  • 2009
    • With 2010 looking set to be a major year for the park, 2009 would be in contrast be a fairly mild one though would see very little added for the year other than a Huss Breakdancer called 'Powder Kegs' being installed in Pirates Cove.
  • 2010
    • 2010 would see the park install it's biggest ride since 2002 in which would be the park's first wooden coaster by GCI called 'Wrath'. Built in the Dark Wood area of the park and themed to that of a blood thirsty demon, this large wooden coaster would be the first major wooden coaster to be built in a UK park in years and the ride with its crazy amount of airtime makes the ride a major hit that has attendance levels spike showing that the park has become a serious playing in the UK theme park scene.
  • 2011
    • After the high of 2010, the park acts more frugal with the park installing a Vekoma Madhouse attraction in the Farm area of the park and called Barn-twister and given a rather humorous theme of animals being spun around in the air.
    • The end of the season would see its Pinfari Big Apple coaster removed with much indifference however prior to the end of the season, it was announced that Looping Star would finally close to be replaced by a new ride in the future and the ride would see a farewell event at the end of the year.
  • 2012
    • A new Mack ride is installed in the Pirates Cove area of the park which turns out to be a long awaited water ride which is a interactive boat ride called 'High Sea Battles'.
    • The main news of the year is that after many years of having a close relationship with Lightwater Valley (as what Loudoun and LWV had in OTL) and in the hope of making it bigger, both companies merge to create their own theme park chain in which season ticket holders can visit both parks much like the Merlin parks.
    • Finally, for Tornado's 10th anniversary, the ride would gain the brand Vekoma trains which help improve the ride's roughness.
  • 2013
    • A new family coaster is added to the park's line up in which is a Vekoma 335 family cloned coaster in the farm area of the park named 'Rat Race' which as its name suggests is themed to rats running mad round a barn.
  • 2014
    • A quiet year follows however what it sees is a much needed overhaul of Strathclyde Manor which by this point is in much need of a major overhaul with new effects and much improved ride reliability to the point that the ride reopens as 'new'. Nonetheless the improved ride is well liked by many.
  • 2015
    • Though 2015 would be the first year in which would see no new ride, it would however see more entertainment and shows added for the year for much of the park's budget was being saved up for it's major installation for the anniversary year next year.
  • 2016
    • Now with the park having more money in its pocket, Strathclyde Wonderland installs its next large coaster which is once again yet another Vekoma coaster (by this point the park gets nicknamed as Vekoma land by many enthusiasts) though this time turns out to be one of the new flying coaster model, the first of its type in Scotland, which turns out to be a Stingray clone based on the model in China and the ride would be built in Area X and is called 'X-96' (a name that is a basis of the the park's anniversary year).
  • 2017
    • Another fairly quiet year follows with the installation of a 4D built into the Buchannan Street area of the park which is a short film about the adventures of Roary the Lion and his friends.
  • 2018
    • A new flat ride is built for the new season in the Dark Wood, a Condor ride called Demon Flight which turns out to the park's tallest flat ride to date.
    • During the same year, more sad news follows as the park announces that Rattlesnake will close at the end of the season which means its two Schwarzkopf rides have left.
  • 2019
    • Major groundworks start to take shape in the Wild North West section following the removal of Looping Star and Rattlesnake clearing much space with a new major ride to be built in the area.
    • That year though would see yet another flat ride built, this time being a Giant Frisbee ride built into the Wild North West area to help bolster the area's line up and called 'Gun Slinger'.
  • 2020
    • Prior to the start of the year, many were looking forward to seeing the opening of their park's newest coaster being a Mack Blue Fife clone named 'Desert Storm' built on the sight of the former two coasters before it, however the pandemic struck and park would remain close for the remainder of the season with the ride's opening being delayed until the following year.
  • 2021
    • Desert Storm would open for the summer that year and for being Scotland's first launch coaster, the ride is a major hit which helps the park get back on its feet again after a difficult year thanks to Covid.
  • 2022
    • After a hectic year, the park is still willing to invest in the upkeep of the park though this time is more tight on the money with the only new ride being a family pirate themed teacup ride for Pirates Cove though this is much hope that the ride will invest in major attraction very soon and help make it a major playing to compete with Blackpool and Alton Towers.
Phew, and there we are! After all these years of me moaning about how we Scots don't have a good theme park I finally get to show what might have been for us had just little things gone better for us and who knows how this would affect the UK theme park circuit, mainly in the north. Anyway, hope you liked this one and tell me all what you think. I really should adapt all of these for my alternate history profile unless there is somewhere I can put them up on TS if you'd want to read the full history of all what I had in mind.

I'm not all Familiar on M&Ds and it's current form, but I respect the amount of dedication and effort you've put in these alternative timeliness for this new Park you've come up with!! Maybe I should make another Thread dedicated to that topic...

Anyhow, I here because I've just finished some air concept art of my own. I've had a lot of time to do this since I caught the 'you know what' bug. This is what I'd do if Galactica was to be Rethemed back to air. I haven't done all the Sketches yet, but here are the completed ones. Each drawing has a number labeled by them. I'll describe what they are for you all. Anywho, here they are, hope you guys like them :)

1.
Updated Height Restriction sign, is to be based by the main entrance.

2.
Main entrance area, logo is kept the same, but signs are altered to suit with the futuristic design more, same with the bars holding them. Altered rockwork by the Pram area to be more realistic.

3.
Updated sign, indicating where the entrance to the ride is, to be located where the old one was by the Air Shop, now roller Coaster restaurant.

4.
Rethemed Galactica Portal, now with themed rockwork on its base, that along with a pond, a waterfall, and a mini Geyser fountain. Main portal is painted into Airs style and is partly demolished to create an abandoned portal look as the Ride passes through it.

5.
Rebuilt air shop, Galacticas current Gift shop is reduced with the Ride photo purchase shrunk for space. Reintroducing the observation view, but still not as big as the original one as the shop still takes space at the end of it. New facade will have a curved face, with new windows, that reminiscent of Air Shops old windows, but with slanted panels, again, for a futuristic look.

6.
New Info Sign in the queue, showing the rides history, such as its opening, its retheme into Galactica, and its supposedly present state. Also a little Easter egg of Galacticas logo carved into the rock structure.

7.
Pre Lift Hill Tunnel, surprised? Probably not. Now overhauled, with lighting and some inspiration taken from the original concept art of the tunnel. (E.g. the fan on the floor and the lights.) The wall outside of the station were the trains first enter now spells on the left side 'now' and the right one saying 'fly', in order to create the famous "Now Fly" quote on the wall before you ascend up the lifthill

Hope you guys enjoyed these ideas. New ideas will hopefully be here soon on my next post here.

Interesting concepts there for Air returning you have there and yes, another thread for alternate theme park history would be fun to do as I really would want to do one regarding Towers.

Speaking of concept art, this might a bit brass neck of me for saying this but if you'd like, I'd be interested to see you attempt sketching up the Port Discovery proposal for TWODW as seen in my alternative history of Towers as even though I roughly know how it might look, would be good to have a second opinion on how it would look. :)

Mind you, anything might be better that TWODW I suppose. :p

I'd love to do some Port Discovery concept art. After I've done all on my Air art, I'll get right onto Port Discoverys'!

Do you think I should copy the air concept art post to the Air or Galactica thread? I'd like it to get some more recognition and some criticism.

Will be looking forward to seeing that! ;)

For the art, I'd say add to the thread, nice to have it on there. :)

Here's my idea of a Chessington Alternative History if it wasn't bought by Merlin:

2008

Tussauds are on a thread after Merlin Buy Alton and Thorpe, but with the money they got from selling the Parks, they can now fully focus on Chessington.

Beanoland closes at the end of the season, with work already started for a major retheme.

2009

Beanoland now rethemed to 'South America' bow themed to a South America Village within the jungle, with 3 new attractions in the area that replaced 'Roger the Dodgers Dogems, Bash Street bus' and Dennis Madhouse upper floor has been demolished for one of the new attractions. There 3 new ones are:

The Serpent:
Pretty much Croc Drop but in place of Dennis' madhouse and themed to an Aztec Temple with The mouthpiece being a Cobra.

Kujaks Lazy Amazon River, Not:
A mini Log Flume in place of the Dogems themed to a tribal village infested with Cheeky Monkies In the Amazon Rainforest. And yes, there are water guns for people watching...

At Last but not least

Bolivia Food Mayhem, a Flying Dutchman flat ride rethemed to a basket of Topical fruit, with the centerpiece being themed to South American stone buildings.

Billy Whizzer though is still rethemed to Monkey Swinger.

2010

Skyway gets a major refurb, along with some new cars and a repainted track to look more natrual to each of the areas environment.

Imperial Leather Bubbleworks sponsor is pulled out early, with the ride left in a bit of a sorry state.

Dragon Falls is renamed to Dragon River, with some additional scenery added to the lifthills and surroundings, such a rockwork and more greenery.

2011

Nothing Substantial, but a new batch of Mascots are now introduced to the park. An Abad/Indiana Jones like Character outside of Forbidden Kingdom along with a Mummy that would chase the Actor across the area occasionally.

A 1880s duo in market Square that would play a wind up organ.

The final Mascot would be a goofy and over the top explorer that would mostly hang out in Mystic East, Mexicana, and South America.

2012

a mini outdoor stage is added in South America with shows for all ages.

Runaway Trains gets extensive work done to it. Rockwork is repainted more realistically, but still brown, main structure has been given more supports, indoor sections now have cave elements, ores, and a waterfall. The Queue is also rerouted now to go through the indoor section of the ride.

2013

Bubbleworks closes for the whole year.

ToyTown is rethemed to Chequers Lane, a more wacky and colourful area, with a 60s style to it, with the currently existing Theatre, but no IP shows. There is also now a gift shop and a victorian carousel in the area.

2014

Bubbleworks, now back to being known as 'Professor Burps Bubbleworks' is brought back to its former glory, but has some new jokes in it.

New Flat ride in Mexicana, between Runaway Train and First Aid building.

Flying Jumbos relocated to an extended area of Chequers Lane.

2015

Hocus Pocus Hall closes for a retheme.

Construction of Chessington Hotel begins.

Dragon River gets additional TLC throughout the attraction, especially the scenery at the final drop.

2016

Small Zoo exhibition added to the Mysic East, consisting of animals from Asia, Indonesia, etc.

Hocus Picus reopens as Dr Edwarzt's madhouse madness. More escape room like now, and new characters and effects.

2017

Hotel is completed. Has 2 swimming pools, 3 restaurants, and a small cinema and aquarium.

Rameses Revenge closes for the season.

2018

Ramases Revenge reopens as an advances Huss Topspin now. Its renamed to 'Ramases Revenge, the curse continues'

Old mascot brought back to the park. The Panda Mascot from opening day returns.

New Walkthrough attraction in Land of Drsgons, a walkthrough attraction of going through a woodlands under Dragons Fury, on the lookout for eggs and Dragon Species. So basically, you're Dragon Watching. It'll be interactive as well.

2019

Mexicano gets a reasonable TLC program, most of the Buildings are given fresh coats of paint. The interior of the Arcade is redone in a Mexican Village Style. Rattlesnake gets a fresh coat of paint, and some new props.

2020

Many projects are put on hold from the Virus Outbreak. The only things that Happen this year is Tomb Blasters Refurbishment.

Vampire celebrates it's 30th anniversary by fixing the Station, additional queue theming, and receiving new trains by S&S, replicants of Arrow Suspended Coaster trains. And the chandeliers are put back up.

2021

New shows given to the Stages.

2022

Shipwreck Bay opens.

Very good, format looks familiar to what I did with Towers...how about we create our own shared universe regarding alternative theme parks? :p

Anyway, looking forward to seeing what you have next for Chessie.

Ok then, I know I have posted this already in the new alternate history thread, however since I first came up with the concept of an alternate Alton Towers on this thread...I'm here again with a revamped one which I think does fit a few problems some had and with more better details here. With it being so long I'll have to double post on this so without further ado, here we go for V2!

So anyway, as something of a spoiler summery of the timeline I plan to upload in full in two parts due to the length, let's begin...

  • 2004
    • Spinball Wizzer opens the same much like OTL to start off with, however...
    • During the difficult planning stages of the proposed Cross Valley Wooden coaster which ultimately fail to strong opposition, main POD here is that the planning stages last a little longer which ends having some consequences later on as Towers/Tussauds suddenly realised they had nothing planned for the 2005 season and they need a new coaster of some description but haven't the time to landscape a ride to fit with Towers' infamous height restrictions never mind what kind of ride it'll be.
    • At first, Tussauds opts for getting an Intamin launch coaster much like they are planning for Thorpe Park for the 2006 season, however the long and ultimately doomed planning stage has given the park very little time to build a fully custom coaster and as of a result, Towers are forced to have to build a cloned coaster in which in this case turns out to be nothing more than a bog-standard Vekoma LSM coaster with a layout that is the same as Rock 'n' Roller Coaster in the Disney Parks though incidentally, this was a type of coaster that was almost planned to be built for Thorpe Park before Nemesis Inferno would be built in its place; Tussauds would simply dust off the plans and install it at Towers instead.
  • 2005
    • Built over a remarkable short period in the run up to the 2005 season, the new coaster would be built in Ug Land (the area being closed off in October to allow the speedy construction) with the surrounding area being flattened to allow the ride to be fit under the tree height. The ride, now known as Rita - Queen of Speed, opens in April 2005 and has a very mixed reception among many. Most guests love the fast 0-60mph launch (which much like OTL, Towers marks as 0-100 in advertisements), many enthusiasts are very divisive over the new ride in which most complaints are how its loose drag racing theme that clashes with the dinosaur theme, infamous Cattlepen queue (both of which were victims of the fast construction time) and of how it is nothing more than just another clone which many feel is a downgrade for the park in which is just another clone and how having two Vekoma cloned coasters, the other being Corkscrew, next to each other gives that area of the park the nickname of Vekoma corner if you were to include Hex into the mix. The ride is still in the same red and brown colour scheme as OTL encase you are wondering.
    • Despite these problems, the ride itself is like in general by most of the public though 2005 ends up being a pretty rough year for the park in which two classic attractions, Toyland Tours and Black Hole, would both close during the year much like OTL.
  • 2006
    • Pretty much the same as OTL in which Charlie and the Chocolate Factory opens though does suffer the same budget cut problems regarding its theming becomes pretty much a disappointment in the eyes of enthusiasts and the GP alike.
  • 2007
    • While park wise is pretty much the same as OTL such as the opening of Haunted Hallow, it is during this year that the buyout from Merlin takes place however this is where the second point of diversion takes place in which while the likes of Towers and Thorpe will become part of the Merlin brand, it is decided that Chessington will not be part of the merger in which Tussauds will survive as a company thanks to the sale of its two major theme parks though it does mean that Tussauds is vastly reduced in size with only Chessington and several Waxworks museums still under their ownership.
    • With Chessington not becoming part of the merger, this means that Merlin can focus purely focus on making both Towers and Thorpe their main theme parks appealing to both families and thrill seekers alike and Chessington not part of the merger means that regarding Thorpe, Merlin doesn't need to worry other trying to make sure both parks don't tiptoe around each other so that they don't cause problems in chasing the same market. This means that any and all Chessington developments from Merlin never happen ITTL and the park will look very different as of 2022 but it means that with more funds freed up, this allows for better investment for Towers and Thorpe (LLW pretty much remains the same in case you were wondering).
  • 2008:
    • Pretty much the same as with OTL in which Mutiny Bay opening up and Corkscrew closes though it is here that things start to change the following year...
  • 2009:
    • SW6 is not being built in Ug Land but rather in Gloomy Wood in the area in which some years ago was the site of an April fools Vekoma bike model, this does mean however that the new coaster will have to be carefully built into the area as not to ruin the surrounding of the area and the ride barley passes through the planning stages and many fans are left angry of how this coaster will ruin the surroundings of GW.
    • Ug Swinger is still moved to Cred Street which still gains its Cloud Cuckoo Land theming much like with OTL and Ug Land as of a result still carries on though is more of a shell of its former self than before.
  • 2010:
    • SW6, now known as Thirteen opens in GW that while still has the freefall drop element though ITTL it has a different outside layout due to surrounding area however it has a bit more airtime and more importantly, it is marketed correctly not as a high thrill ride but rather as a mystery to keep guests guessing at what lies within the building (the whole GMTV live thing doesn't blow the reveal but keeps it hidden). As of a result, the ride opens to a somewhat more positive reception though some fans are still disappointed that it is more for families.
    • The theme of Thirteen is somewhat the same of being an abounded crypt though the main difference is that it is themed to an excavation site with scaffolding around the attraction and thankfully blends into that of nearby Duel. Speaking of which...
    • At the same time that Thirteen opens, the money that in our timeline that would have gone to retheme Ug land instead is poured into Duel in which reopens for 2010 as The Haunted House and brought back to its former glory to bring up to line with Thirteen, much to the joy of fans though some guests are left disappointed that the shooting element is gone. That said, rather tediously AT mark the revised Haunted House as a 'new' attraction for 2010. The retheme was actually a sweetener for John Wardley, acting as much like IOTL as the ride consultancy for Thirteen, in which he was given the chance to help overhaul Duel in which he didn't need asking twice. It would also mean that Keith Sparks, one of the original designers of the HH, would be brought back to bring back to life some lost concepts that never make the original and on bittersweet note, this would be the latter's final involvement before his death the following year. Nonetheless, the return of the HH is highly welcomed and thanks to its impressive high throughput queue line, it acts as a very useful filler ride to help soak up the large crowds that gather that year to ride Thirteen and that dark ride itself would actually undergo something of an unlikely renaissance in the eyes of many.
    • Finally, much like with our timeline, Spinball is still rethemed to Sonic Spinball (still being classed as 'new') and Corkscrew's elements are still there at the entrance to the park.
  • 2011:
    • As we all know, this is the year that the Shrek 3D show was supposed to be opened but fell apart meaning that Towers would for the first time there would be no new rides or attractions then...not so here. Thanks to a far greater 2010 and without having to throw money at Chessington, Merlin decides to spend a little more money into the place such as more entertainment for park guests though Towers do save some money for the long-term all thanks to their new attraction...
It would be based on not just many of the past rides being represented such as a ride car from Corkscrew, one of the Swan boats, some theming from Toyland Tours etc (ITTL, I'd like to think that in Towers boneyard they have had some of theme remaining in storage in which they are instead brought out, given some final TLC before finally going on display) but also giving a history of the park and of the Towers themselves for guests who have no knowledge about the place. All of which is despite being something of a strange type of attraction actually becomes quite liked for not only seeing more of the Towers but actually helpful to go there on wet days at the park.
    • Not all is perfect however in which in one of the most infamous chapters of the park's history as part of a sponsorship with Fanta, Oblivion would be covered with cheap and nasty vinal stickers of the drink around the attraction which caused much anger and were quickly removed afterwards. No TL can ever be really perfect...
    • Beastie would still be announced as never to open again and one of the ride cars goes into the museum with the ride still being sold off much like OTL.
    • As the season ends, Towers manages to hold a steady 3 million guests for 2011 that it gives the indication to Merlin that all they have to do is keep the momentum going and not screw it up which leads us into a very different 2012...
  • 2012:
    • The main thing to point out is that Nemesis Sub-Terra is very different to OTL's version in which instead of being a drop tower ride is in fact a Mack dark ride system that has the shooting element in place (this would built as a way of appeasing guests who were disappointed in 2010 that HH never had the blasters anymore) and the ride building is about twice the size of the OTL NST building which can just about fit in a dark ride system.
    • The plot of the ride is somewhat different in which while guests are still going many miles down (with no shouting staff), the difference is that rather than going to see an egg, it turns out that Nemesis eggs have not only been found but have hatched after being discovered by workers down there and the danger is that many of them are heading to the surface and guests find themselves being roped in to shoot and the hatched Nemesis babies to make sure they don't reach the surface and cause widespread destruction. Perhaps not surprisingly, the ride opens to a far better reception than compared to OTL for sure. However, NST is not the only thing that is happening in FV.
    • At the same time as NST opens, FV is seeing a major change regarding Air for thanks to a lot more spare funds out there, Air would see a major transformation not just with some tweaks from B&M to bring the technology up to date, but as part of the ride's 10th anniversary, the ride would be fully rethemed into its original 'Oasis' concept, something that Towers would call the 'Remastered' events in which much of that area of the park goes under such a major change that it actually sees itself become its own separate area from FV being called Forgotten Oasis that is themed to a relaxing paradise that is themed to what FV looked before Nemesis transformed it all into a hellscape and that Air is themed to a spirt that is there to not only protect that area but battle Nemesis...a classic battle of good vs evil there. Air's show building is cosmetically changed to be that of a an ancient temple that is themed to how an ancient tribe of the Oasis treated Air as their Goddess to battle evil that may harm them. After queing on the outside, guests enter a cave system to take their ride and yes, the tunnel finally gets some theming to blend into the temple. The queue line area is rerouted slightly to up via the hill in which the queue area near the final helix is cleared back as part of future development while the area near the break run is not only giving some theming touch ups from palm trees and waterfalls but also has that are turned into a viewing area for guests just wanting to see the coaster without riding. The ride itself also undergoes a long awaited repaint in which the track colour remains in its teal colour, yet the supporters are now painted dark blue. So yeah, that certain retheming years later involving VR never happens here and thus, Air is here to stay!
    • Following the success of the 'Remastered' events, this gives the idea that other attractions could get it next.
    • Ice Age 4D never happens for the CCL theatre for with entertainment still a thing at Towers and as of a result, shows will still play out of there though would see not the same show each season.
    • At this same time, SW7 begins work over in X-Sector...
  • 2013:
    • SW7, now called The Smiler, still opens much like with OTL though there are some key differences ITTL.
    • Construction is not as shambolic like in OTL thanks to some more proper planning of the surrounding area and the ride does open earlier than OTL though only by just a week after the 2013 season starts. The ride's queue line now has a set of preshow videos much like Oblivion in which here they do come off as a parody of Oblivion's intimidating build-up with a lot of black humour thrown in in which themed to resemble that of those cheerful 1960's adverts, they are telling guests of how to make themselves feel better and not act like those other poor fellows...anyway, the ride itself has two small but major differences; the ride cars have lap bars (which makes it a far smoother and better experience for many) and the loading bay has two platforms instead of one with a system like that with Oblivion which does help Smiler's capacity problems for sure and all in all, the ride is ofc a success with no real trouble at all building it.
    • Perhaps the main thing to notice is that Smiler's main building looks very different in which is now themed to blend in with the rest of X-Sector in which it follows the curved structure of Oblivion's station but there are more theming upgrades such as the second lift hill is built within a giant 'laughing gas tube' in which the inside is given more SFX smoke and a spiral lighting up the tube which gives a more madcap feeling.
    • Finally, X-Sector does get the TLC needed much like with OTL so no change there.
  • 2014:
    • Now then, this is where things get different in which for starts, CBeebies Land never happens. Yes, big change there, though with Thorpe Park by this point still having a family market here, Merlin would go instead have it built at Thorpe with the IP likely to have bigger success being close to the capital and this does mean that several IP's that would have ended up at Towers end up going to Thorpe (yeah, IP's still affect Thorpe much like OL I'm afraid to say).
    • That said, Alton Towers has now actually started to see the benefit of exploiting more of the brand of their attractions and perhaps more cheaper than using an IP to get attention, it is decided that Storybook Land is to undergo a major change for the 2014 season in which it and Adventureland and both grouped together to create a new larger themed area enchanted wood area called Fantasy Forrest (acting as a mirror image to GW) in which not only has much of the rides and theming refurbished such as Squirrel Nutty Ride and The Bookworm are all restored to their former glory with the latter having a new voice audio for the new area. Old MacDonald's Farm is never part of the change so as of a result it remains as is though does see some TLC for the 2014 season.
    • With Adventureland now part of the new area, there are some changes in which the biggest is that on the site of the now long-gone Beastie is a new Mack YoungSTAR coaster called Woody Rocket which is a typical standard YoungSTAR clone coaster and the first on the park since 2005 and is lightly themed to mad invention from Squirrel Nutty himself attempting to creating a rocket from logs. Speaking of which, Squirrel Nutty is much more seen as a walkabout character and the ice show tent is taken down and replaced by a more permeant ice show building in which a new ice show is put in place to help bolster the park's entertainment line-up.
    • Sonic Spinball is not themed into the new surrounding area which does mean it sticks out badly from the rest of the area and rumours are there that its time is coming to an end on several forum sites...
  • 2015:
    • Now then, to get the elephant in the room out of the way, no, the Smiler crash never happens here though the Enchanted Wood accommodation still opens much like with OTL though here it is part of the wider Fantasy Forrest theme from the following year.
    • This is also the year that many old favourite characters return such as Henry and Henriette Hound returning to the park after many years and Merlin have actually started to make comic adventures of the characters with some plans even going for a possible TV series in the future to really market the Towers brand though like all best laid plans, this idea is delayed many times over the next few years.
    • Charlie and the Chocolate Factory finally closes to little or no fanfare with some actually happy that it has gone, though the site would remain SBNO for some time afterwards.
    • The Enchanted Village still opens much like with OTL with only a few changes.
    • During this time, serious building work is going on in Ug Land on the site of where Corkscrew was, and area of that park that has seen next to nothing since the famous old Vekoma left the park many years ago and has been a prime spot for a future ride for many years.
    • To end the year on a shock, Sonic Spinball is confirmed to leaving at the end of the season with the ride being sold off to another UK park while one of the ride cars will stay at the Resort to be placed in the museum and finally, it is also announced that Ug Land will close at the end of the year too and that the Flume will also make way for future developments the later ride coming to the end of its working life. The loss of Spinball is marked with little fanfare and instead most are happy that the area will no longer be spoiled by that site of that coaster or any future coaster though it is clear that something will be going in that area in the not-too-distant future...
Still tuned for Part 2!

And now onto Part 2!
The new area is one that has a rather mixed opinion in which while many will say that at least finally Rita fits into the area built around its theme of racing, many though miss the dinosaur theming and say that the new Thunder Rock Valley theme feels a little bit blander with its 1950's Americana feel being more straight compared to the previous whacky theme.
    • The main standout for what would be on the site of Corkscrew would be none other than a Mack Spinning Coaster called Drifter in which is themed to, OFC, cars drifting corners much like how Rita is themed to drag racing and almost in tribute to Corkscrew, it also is painted with yellow track though has purple supports. It becomes clear as to why Spinball left the previous year as the new ride does take many elements of that ride and improves on it greatly and soon enough, almost everyone says it is a far better attraction in comparison to Spinball.
    • During this time, Rita itself had during the closed season a refurb or 'Remastered' as Merlin's media team would like to call it, in which the ride would have not only a fresh lick of paint of red track and now dark blue supporters, but also a rebuilt station to cover riders and is themed better which is very welcomed (the original not having any protection from the elements owing to the fast building of the ride) and done is a rebuilt queue line which is no longer the infamous cattle pen system as before in which everyone hated and is much better themed than before. To top it all off, the ride is also given brand new themed drag racing car trains with the new vest restraint design from Vekoma to help with the smooth riding.
  • 2017:
    • Hex returns fully refurbished like in OTL, however with no Smiler crash ITTL, the attraction wasn't shut for much of 2016 as was the case with many other rides.
    • The main attraction for 2017 is regarding on expanding the resort complex. What would have Cbeebies Hotel here is instead the park's third themed hotel named Legends of History is a hotel themed to the many famous myths and legends that have been part of British culture for generations such as the Headless Horseman, Loch Ness Monster and even the Chained Oak is mentioned with several rooms having their own theme for each myth much like how the ATH has the same for several rides on the park.
    • The year is pretty major for the resort as a whole as Splash Landings finally receives a major update for the waterpark in which there is extension for such as a wave machine and a new major slide which are not only built undercover but help boost the capacity of the waterpark far better.
    • While most of the investment goes into the resort for a chance, that doesn't mean the park gets nothing in which there is a new attraction that replaces Submission which closed to little fanfare at the end of the 2016 season, to be replaced by a brand new Intamin Suspended Twin Hammer ride which strangely still calls itself as Submission II, though much like how there was the case of calling Black Hole as Black Hole II following a refurb, Submission does get called as Submission MK2 for some before eventually the park drops this name and instead just calls it as Submission as always.
    • On the site of the Flume attraction, the area is cleared for the construction of SW8. Plans were for the new SW to be built in FV nearby Blade however following the closure of the Flume, it was decided at the last minute to use that site instead.
  • 2018:
    • SW8 opens on the site of the long-closed Flume attraction, and it is though not called Wicker Man but instead called Kraken which themes itself more closely with Mutiny Bay than the current OTL theme. The ride itself is pretty much the same though with a different story regarding the great sea monster the ride is named after. Big Bob is still there though this time is themed to a giant sea monster that still has, oddly, fire elements on the ride.
    • As part of its 20th anniversary, Oblivion is also giving a long-awaited refurb such as fresh paint job (with Smiler getting some too as to make sure one or the other don't look groggy compared to the other) and some changes to the queue line such as much covered areas which as the riders in darkness with some orange tinted lights and of course the ride preshow films playing out with the old TVs removed. The theme itself is pretty much similar to its Italian cousin of the same name in Gardaland though is quite more up to date and doesn't ruin the original intense theme but instead actually enhances far greater.
    • The station did gain a small extension onto the exit section in which the on-ride photo collection point is now relocated there with a small shop being built there too. This means that the X-Sell building is now just used for the game machines on the inside however it is clear that future attraction is to be built within there.
  • 2019:
    • Stargazing Pods never are built though instead we see an expansion of the Enchanted Village. The park would however some of its biggest investment in years for multiply rides (lack of Chessie to spend money for and the lack of Smiler crashing causing so many problems for Towers gives them more freedom to spend) in which in Fantasy Wood, two S&S Frog Hoppers are built called Wood Hoppers. If you haven't already guessed, this is pretty much OTL Peter Rabbit ride.
    • CCL however is undergoing a major change in which as part of a three stage rebuilding job that will that area as well as the building for Charlie and finally reopening Coaster Corner into an all new larger area to be called Port Discovery, an steampunk concept that many years ago had been proposed for X-Sector and as such the new steampunk area will act as a more happier mirror image of the future instead of the more sinsiter one found for X-Sector. The first major change in the area is that Twirling Toadstools is gone and in its place is a Garmendale Quadstar Aerial Roundabout flat ride called Steel Hawks which has all the steampunk theming of flying machines in action, pretty much OTL Vroomster ITTL. The other new attraction in the area and headline one too is inside the Wobble World building is a Spin master dark ride called The Time Machine which is themed to novel of the same name by H.G Wells and if you haven't guessed then yes, this is pretty much OTL's GG ride though themed to H.G Wells in which here guests go on a wild journey through time.
    • Finally, the Cuckoo Cars Driving School is also giving a steampunk retheme and renamed as Discovery Speedway which despite its grand name is pretty much the same as before.
    • Much like OTL, the Swiss Cottage gets work done on it.
  • 2020:
    • Yeah, pretty much everything the same from OTL happens ITTL too, however the new attraction for PD is within the Charlie building which in none other than a rebuilt Around the World In 80 Days attraction in the same area not is based on the novel by Jules Verne but actually also sees a full circle moment in which the ride that was originally there when first built finally returns much to the delight of several older fans of the park who would barely remember it. That said though, though it would not open until the following year all due to Covid.
  • 2021:
    • Around the World In 80 Days does open for the 2021 season, completing stage two of Port Discovery, though one key difference here is that with a number of flat rides around Towers, far more so than OTL, there is no need for the Retrosquad to be there though is one flat ride added for Fantasy Wood being a Zamperla Lolly Swing built on the site of Spinball, and is called Treetop Swingers.
  • 2022:
    • A fairly quiet year for the park though it does see the HH and even Thirteen gain an overhaul with JW returning to update the theming as such as the ride system being overhauled by Mack to bring it up to date all as part of the ride's 30th anniversary (pretty much what is happening right now IOTL but a year earlier). Thirteen also has some theming 'upgrades' with that being loosely applied in which what it is nothing that that just the whole lift hill being covered with wooden planks going up the hill which is pretty much the same as what happened with Rita IOTL following the launch cable snapping and the wooden walls being built around the launch area. However, the reason for it being built is to help the ride's downtime during rainy days which often has seen the lift hill fail to work and this has been done as a way to fix the problem to make it more reliable. As crude as it is despite some little theming adding to try and blend in better with the theme with it becoming something of a joke among enthusiasts, it actually does fix the problem and Thirteen is now reliable as ever and by this point, many trees have grown up around the ride that have made the area ae far better than before.
    • A new attraction for 2022 is built which turns out to be a maze attraction within the X-Sell building which is now called X-Scape which is themed to being invited into what is said to be the behind-the-scenes area for the Ministry of Joy within X-Sector is shown of the inner workings of the area. However, it turns out that the whole inviting message turns out to be nothing more than a trap in which the many victims of Oblivion and Smiler such as those who fell into the hole and never seen again, or the overly happy victims of the latter have been kept hidden away from the public eye and you the guest are next for a newer experiment and through the maze guests must e(x)scape, as the name suggests, from the building before you can be captured. The attraction becomes quite controversial for its heavily adult mature tones in something in what the former Alien Encounter at WDW would have been like but still the attraction is considered as worthwhile edition for the park and some enthusiasts even dub it as the 'final boss' battle in X-Sector considering how it combines the themes of Smiler and Oblivion into the mix.
    • The end of the season see's the end of Nemesis, although just for the 2023 season for it will undergo a major overhaul with a full track replacement program to open it ready in time for its 30th anniversary in 2024.
    • It also sees what is planning application for the third and final major expansion for Port Discovery in which a new large structure is to be built, known simply as Project Horizon, on the long since abandoned Coaster Corner area of the park and who knows what will follow there...
And there we are! Does anyone want to see the full timeline of this or even add to it such as concept art of some of the rides/theming on this? I will credit you if want to help and I feel the time is ready for an Alton Towers alternate history to take place on the alternate history forum or maybe on here...so yeah, hope you liked it.
