2014: General Discussion

Don't think this has been picked up on yet, but the entrance price has recently gone up to £49.20. Surely not long until the £50 barrier is broken.

In other news, the new gate in the CCL/DF skyride queue is indeed a disabled entrance and is now in use. If anything, it makes the ride less wheelchair accessible as it narrows the entrance, but I think it's fair enough that disabled guests get priority as the park is an absolute nightmare to navigate for wheelchair users. One minor issue is that they've exacerbated the problem of the queue being too small - it's now much narrower and can't hold as many people so is even more likely to spill out the entrance.

£49.20! they snook that in without saying anything, just makes having a all you can use pass even more worthwhile!

The odds of it breaking £50 next year, 1/1.

Place your bets, place your bets.
I see it hitting £49.99 next year but they will be very reluctant to break that barrier.

Anything over £50 is a massive psychological thing to overcome in terms of people reading the price and saying 'sod that'

Gets worse I think when it's at silly prices like '£50.20' or '£51.40' etc etc

Still - it's all ridiculous.

Breaking the £50 barrier will be a significant thing and will raise a lot of eyebrows. However it is guaranteed to happen at some point in the next 12 months or so. Unless of course Merlin suddenly change their pricing strategy but I can't see that happening.

:)

Someone mentioned on May 24th that the price had been raised to £52. Whether this was a joke, a lie, or mis-communication, I have no idea.

As it's currently £49.20, I would think that's a miscommunication.

When it hits £49.99 or £50, I can see someone working out how may days it would take a minimum wage person would have to work to pay for two tickets.

^ Exactly, that what I don't like. It's not that the price is so high (as several other parks charge considerably more) but that the park staff don't exactly get much of it. They would be even happier if their pay rose, making the park more of a premium product.

£49.20 is absoloutely ridiculous and might as well be £50, I mean are we really counting 80p?!
Disgraceful pricing.

Jamie, I think it got something to do with physiology of selling. like £49.99 looks more attractive than £50.00.

It's definitely an extortionate amount of money and is clearly inflated so high because of Merlin's offer and online pricing drive.

However people will not generally see £49.20 as £50 as it has a 4 at the start. Psychologically, breaking the 50 mark will be massive. It's why shops often price things with a 9 at the end - because it's easy to fool people into thinking things are cheaper than they are.

I don't think Merlin could care about breaking barriers.

The price was £39.60 in 2011.

It has risen £9.60 since.

£39.60 - £49.20 in 3 years is around 7% a year. Massively above inflation and wage rises...

The comparative cost of park entry is far, far higher now than it was.

Even at BOGOF price of £24.60, this equates to around €31 - only actually a few pounds less than standard gate prices for the likes of Efteling, Europa and Garda.

Good news - for once Towers actually extended ride close today. It was advertised as 17:30 but changed to 18:00 at around 1pm. Today's gate figure was over 18000, so the extension was very much needed. An extra half hour (or more) would have been justifiable too, as the park remained busy until the end.

I'm just glad that Towers are seeing sense and extending opening hours on the day! Even if it's only by half an hour today, it's still a positive step in the right direction.

Yes it was very much needed today! Last time I went and there were 18,000 there, I only got on 5 rides, but today I got on 15, so all is good!

I was quite surprised when they announced it, given Towers' reputation for when it comes to extending opening times.

maybe they have been listening, or the AT management have used comments to convince the upper management to let them just get on with extending hours as they see fit.
