General Hotel Discussion

I'm actually in the hotel at the moment and haven't been for a year, shocked to see what they have done with flambos. Not a fan anymore ! The selection has also been reduced and it seems like the quality has also.
I could not disagree more!

I was there a few weeks back. I thought that the new layout worked much better (although I wasn't a fan when I saw pictures earlier this year) and the food was the best I've ever had from there. It was a completely different class from last year.

However Flambo's does appear to be rather hit and miss with people and it often depends with what they serve. When I went they had giant ribs in a gorgeous barbecue glaze, that certainly helped sway my opinion!

We went to Flambos, and it was disappointing. The beef was perfectly cooked, but had so much fat in it, it ruined it. If I want a decent carvery, I will go down to my local pub and pay £5. And the burgers did not look much better than something you get at McDonalds. The Chicken was okay, but everything else was to spicy for me.

The chef was rude to my wife when she asked if there was any bowls for the soup, and she had to ask someone else in the end to get them.

The free baby food was a bit of a joke as well, at its only one pot, and they only had a desert left in the age range for my daughter. She normally has a main meal and a desert. The state of the baby chairs left a lot to be desired as well, not the most hygienic we have ever seen, the wooden ones looked better but she was not quite ready for them yet.

I remember years ago, you could actually see the staff cooking the food (Mini Steaks) and it was good. I just feel for £20 is it a lot. If it was £15, I think the current offering would be okay, but I will not be going back any time soon, and I will be making the most of booking a table online. They only had tables available at Secret Garden for people was before 5.30 or after 8.15 when we checked in at 3pm, which is not ideal when you have a little one.

I noticed yesterday that Splash has all new chairs in Margs, and they seemed to have more than before which is an improvement. ATH also seemed to have some new furniture as well on the 1st floor (level of arcade and toilets).

Each hotel also has some large touch screen near reception, themed to each hotel, however no idea what they are for as they just had windows log in screens. They are certainly different to normal feedback screens, more like the order screens you get in places like M&S, that look like giant ipads.

When we were there on Sunday, you could use the touch screen to book restaurant reservations, view menus, and see what was going on.

I presume that these were the ones?

Credit to Leek Signs

These weren't finished at the time the photo was taken but you get the idea. Got to give credit to Leek Signs though for the work they've done for Towers recently. It really is top notch!

They were working today, doing what IanB says was happening on Sunday.

Basically, gives you information about the hotels and food as well as allowing you to make reservations

Oh dear! How on earth has that happened!? Find the way they've covered it up rather amusing!

:)

At least they bothered to block it off... Hopefully it'll be fixed soon!

Ahh - I see they are installing the new underfloor Merlin "magic" extraction plates. These new devices are situated in areas where people will stand and extract money from their pockets, such as at a bar. When the money is being removed from the persons pocket, the vibration kicks in, short but swift, thereby making the money fall out of the persons hand onto the floor, where strategically placed holes (themed of course) will collect the money, where a secret network of underground pipes transfer the coins (from around the resort) into a giant piggy bank.

Last week was the first time I have ever seen the Captains bar open (only because Dragon bar was closed). It is actually a lot bigger than it looks from the outside, and goes back quite far.

It's rare to see it open, usually has to be extremely busy (like Scarefest and Fireworks) for them to open it. But you do get lucky and see it open on quieter periods at times.
