London Entertainment Resort: All Discussion

Also, an Easter opening would allow any teething issues to be ironed out before the inevitable summer rush, when the park would need to be operating at its peak.

Also, it will allow extra time for the trees that will be chopped down to build the huge GCI to grow ;)

Who's to say that this park would actually close for winter though?

Just as a thought rather than any form of actual knowledge or fact, but as it's a brand new project, they should at least be considering the potential (given the IPs available as well) to create a park that is suitable for all year opening in the country...

Hopefully they will build enough indoor experiences and not rely on water rides which are two of the main reasons the Merlin theme parks would struggle in the winter, water rides are not pleasent and outdoor coaster can't operate if its too cold.

I have visions of a more 'inside' park to be honest. Not a rollercoaster haven, not a load of flat rides, water rides and the likes. More experience style attractions, maybe a singular coaster, but lots of interactive experiences and 4d. I hope I'm wrong though. Personally, I would like a park like Efteling (not that I've been) where theming and immersion is the main attraction. Can't see it competing with towers to be honest, probably completely different markets, although hopefully at least the GP will see how attractions can be pulled off *giggle* to a high standard. Make merlin up their game.

Merlin will only up their game if they are hit where it hurts... The wallet! Really hope this pushes them to become more immersive. All you towers fans near the towers I have a question for you... Would you travel down south to visit this park?

After doing some basic crunching on average journey durations to Towers and basing the journey down to Paramount off past experience, it'd only take just over an extra hour to get to Paramount.

Any other answer than yes would indeed be absurd.

Thanks guys... This leads me to my next question.. Would it be via public transport?

Indeed it would. I can get there from Manchester using two trains and one short burst on the Tube/walk and when booked in advance, it will be very reasonable cost wise also.

At the moment HS1 which calls in to Ebbsfleet is about £22 pound off peak. Return from London St. Panc. I hope their will be special offers as the station is empty with car parks larger than Alton's, always empty!

The second phase of public consultations are starting soon and a logo has been revealed, though not necessarily the final design:

Lots of interesting points mentioned in the article below! I'm happy to hear that they will be incorporating British film franchises as much as they can :)

Kent Online said:
Plans to put British films alongside Hollywood blockbusters – and build direct roads from the motorway – will be unveiled at new exhibitions on the proposed Paramount-themed resort in Kent.

The developers behind the £2bn scheme will show off their emerging plans for the project on the Swanscombe Peninsula at 12 events beginning on Wednesday, November 5.

They form part of the second phase of consultation on the London Paramount Entertainment Resort, having begun officially in July.

The exhibitions will also confirm the revised timetable for the project, with the grand opening date delayed to Easter 2020, as revealed exclusively by the KM Group last week.

A new logo for the resort has also been revealed, although it may not be the final version when the first of the expected 15m visitors a year arrive.

While details of the plans remain under lock and key, it is expected the exhibitions will shed some light on how the park will use Paramount’s 3,000-film back catalogue and its future projects.

Unlike Disney World and Universal Studios, the resort will not exclusively feature Paramount material but will also feature attractions based on movies produced by British production companies.

The new timetable on the road to opening the resort

Fenlon Dunphy, director of developers London Resort Company Holdings, said: “One of the key things with Paramount was their willingness to allow British intellectual property into the site as well.

“We are very adamant it will have an eclectic mix of stuff. We are very clear it has to have a British identity as well.

“We want to show [people at the consultation] how the plans are emerging. It won’t be the end game but will show how the process is developing.”

London Resort Company Holdings have also revealed the boundaries of the scheme.

The developers are in advanced negotiations with both major landowners to secure an option agreement on the land but it does not own the land at present.

The plans are also expected to reveal aspirations to create direct roads to the resort from both directions of the A2.

It is understood bosses are looking at tunnelling under London Road – which links Gravesend, Swanscombe and Greenhithe – and the adjacent railway line. This road would also be used to pick up people travelling to the park via Ebbsfleet International.

The 12 consultation events will be split over two weeks between Gravesham and Dartford, which will host five each. The other two will take place in Thurrock and Maidstone.

More than 2,000 people attended the first phase of the consultation at four exhibitions held in July.

Some 84% of respondents expressed an interest in attending a workshop event in early 2015, with transport and job opportunities particularly popular themes.

Another 77% said they would like to be kept up to date on the proposals through the use of email bulletins, with 49% choosing newsletters and 24% leaflets.

Mr Dunphy said: “The feedback we received from the public events in the summer has been instrumental in shaping how we run our next stage of consultation.

“With events across numerous venues in the area in November, and further events planned next year, we hope to speak to as many local people as possible.

“We are delighted that we are now at a stage to share exciting information about the proposals and we hope local people can come along to see our emerging masterplan and share their views with the team.”

That really interesting, its clever how they basically connect with the high speed/local train system. I'm thinking automated monorail? The other point that's interesting Is they have the land to the bean interchange. When bluewater kicks out this can be quite a busy junction with the automates signs taking you through greenhithe instead. It looks to be they would be looking to completely reconfigure that junction.

I wonder what brittish films they will look towards... I hope Wallace and grommit but that's a personal wish. I really hope they do something james bond!

If they are able to then James Bond is a must! Would surely be a huge attraction for people and you don't get more British than James Bond when it comes to film.

:)

It gets mentioned a lot for Alton, but I think Doctor Who would be a great addition. But it all depends if Towers don't have some sort of exclusive licensing rights with the BBC.

Wallace & Gromit already have a ride at Blackpool Pleasure Beach, so I'm not sure if they would partner with another park.
I would have thought the licence would have expired by the opening. Plus paramount are in collaboration with aardman now.

I would have thought the BBC would be into it unless merlin really wow them. I have a feeling we will see merlin try and hold onto the BBC from now.
