Bear in mind this is primarily a local event, initially just advertised for staff family & friends. Given most staff are Mon-Fri over winter, and the event on Sat, it makes sense :)

There are adverts on roads around the wider area (on the Abbots Bromley to Uttoxeter road, for example).

I still think it should have gone on until the evening...

Parents could have taken the kids after school.

I have to say, I'm on park now, and the whole event is a bit crap.

A few stalls, Towers Street Bar and Grill only selling disgusting paninis; at £6 each! The 'Boxing Day' panini is probably the worst thing I've eaten here to be quite honest.

There's probably about that, but nothing of actual value. There's about 5 or 6 stalls selling merchandise they couldn't sell last season.

Oh, that's not what I was expecting.

I assumed they'd all be positioned on Towers Street, maybe around one or 2 of the grass patches/frogs. Quite surprised.

I agree, I had imagined they'd be in two lines down TS like they tend to be in towns etc.

Looks a bit... messy.

My guess would be that Towers Street slopes downwards, whereas the path at the bottom is flatter and therefore easier to errect stalls on.

I'd say you have a point I think you do to a degree as well but it's not like every town you see these markets in is flat.

Great idea, poorly timed, poorly executed.

I guess my idea of a pretty little Christmas market, the smell of festive foods, twinkling lights lol.

It's hard for a photo to capture an atmosphere, I mean look:

There is a big difference between a one off charity event that is there for 7 hours and a full scale market that is around for 7 weeks!

I have been around the hotels at Christmas and I do think Alton Towers does manage to set up something nice and magical.

To expect a full blown replica of a city centre Christmas market for this charity offering is utterly ludicrous, nor is there a need for such a thing to happen (although it certainly wouldn't go without praise).

When I do something for charity, I try to make it as good, professional, marketable and commercial as possible.

I hate this view that because it's charity it's acceptable.

Do it properly, make a big fuss over it, put some effort in and you'll attract MORE customers.

The idea was great but no one here is going to tell me this couldn't have been better. Also, if anyone thinks I was serious with the Europa Park photo as a contrast.... seriously come on.

It does however show what can be done and there's not reason towers could NOT do that. Absolutely none whatsoever.

I thoroughly enjoyed today's Christmas Market. I was there for a good 2 hours, they had the Froghopper giving rides for two quid, and sometimes a ORP for another 2 quid, there were plenty of stalls IMO, yes the majority didn't appeal to me but a few did, the Alton Towers Archive stall was very interesting and contained a lot of old photographs and maps from Alton Towers, the guys running the stand were very friendly and up for a chat, they had a slideshow of old pictures as well. I heard they were aiming for 1000 visitors, not sure how close they were to that target, the entire event felt well laid out. I for one hope this is the first of many.

I think for a one day event, it looks from what I've seen very good. No one is suggesting that just because it is for charity it should be second quality . Just that it is for one day only therefore there is no point installing huge permanant stalls.

For a one day charity event, it was good.

Hopefully they look to the likes of EP and consider a more permanent market through December.

Looks ok for just one day. Maybe next year they could do it over a weekend, and not Black Friday either, might get some more interest, particularly if it was open in the evenings so people can pop in after work, or those staying in the hotels can go across for a nice hot mulled wine
