It doesn't have to be a Merlin park, but to have that level of impact it would need to be one that people across the country know about. Drayton could probably achieve that (though I'm not sure you could say the same pre-Thomas Land), but Flamingoland is too out of the way and too awful in general to make much difference.

Drayton definitely could archive it I reckon, but I think even pre-Thomas Land the park was a fairly notable park. They use to show a lot of adverts on national TV years ago, so a few people would be at least aware of it. With Mingoland though, they would probably need to invest more in something good before they consider wood so I can see where you're coming, that and it's not the easiest park to get to.

At any merlin park apart from legoland, it would work. Drayton could to. I don't see how it would work at legoland, just because the target market of legoland is young children (though I notice that that has been changing lately) and that would continue to encourage the perception that woodies are slow and unexiting. It would be hard at thorpe, due to the fact that the park is quite small, meaning all of the rides must be compact. Obviously though, possible, but I don't see it working as well there.

Even for Alton, it would be a risk. Hoping that it will be an addition to dark forest, because it could finally get decent theming around the area, like actual forest ... also, being wood, it could fit in quite well. Hoping it has one inversion, just so there isn't a repeat of thirteen (not that I don't like 13, but it had bad review because of people comparing it to nemesis)

It won't invert. Thirteen is decent as a family coaster, it was just badly marketed and AT paid way over the top for it.

Also just remembered that oblivion, rita and air (sort of) don't invert, so I don't mind. Why won't it invert though. I've seen woodies invert before, and this does need world first/record breaking element. Most inversions on a wooden rollercoaster?

Given that the only Merlin park with a wooden coaster is a Legoland, it isnt out of the wildest imagination that Windsor could get one...

^^ legoland Florida

Merlin inherited the one at legoland and I think they may have done with colossus. If they build a woodie for sw8 it will be merlins first build one.

Sub-Terra is a dark ride but doesn't really count, I imagine is what Matt Creek meant. This will potentially be Merlin's first big(ish)-budget dark ride.

£4m isn't an insignificant investment. I hope there are some lessons learned from Sub Terra. I love the concept, but it's a pretty poor execution, all round. It felt like a nice idea, but ultimately it's just drab - particularly now all the live action stuff has pretty much gone.

What it does isn't hugely different to 13, it just does less of it, less well. Re-ridability factor is so low!

I find Sub Terra is like Marmite. People love it or hate it. I enjoyed it. I loved the fact that the ride physically interacted (prodded and brushed) with you, it's not just a passive 'safe' experience. I think if there was a bigger version of that ride with a longer ride time and a larger maze it would be much better. I'm sure Alton Towers could really innovate a new breed of physical dark rides which are no longer just passive, visual rides. With respect, dark rides are what John Wardley was originally renowned for. Also Alton Towers is building up a good reputation for Scare attractions.

What's that got to do with anything? All I said was there's no need for B&M to make woodies when there are already good manufacturers out there that make them.

B&M makes great steel rollercoasters, so I think that it would be a good idea for them to make some woodies.

So much that makes B&M great from the perspective of the rider and the parks who have to operate and maintain those coasters, is down to the fact they are crafted in steel with the utmost precision.

Also, when they're built - they're built. You never really stop building a wooden coaster.

Just seen this on screamscape.

Future Plans
- (7/14/15) According to one rumor sent in, which I caution you to only take as a rumor at this point, and nothing factual, Alton Tower's future plans may have included a two-ride project from Intamin, starting with a new wooden coaster that could open as early as 2017 and to be followed by a new flume ride on the site of Mutiny Bay.
At this point however, plans or no plans, given the state of things following The Smiler accident, I'd say any and all plans could be on hold at this point, or even cancelled, while they put their entire operations under review.

Sounds plausible, would make for a decent ride deal as intimin woodies are fairly well liked and Chiapas of corse.

Wood (hehe) be nice if they did that. The Flume could do with replacing.

Although I disagree with Screamscape that any future plans could be on hold or cancelled. If anything they will be pushing ahead for projects so the park can gain back guests and a positive image.
