Towers Loving Care

It could be that they visit the forums and thought that TLC is mentioned a lot and needed so trying to please us geek fan base?
No. They would advertise as much as possible that they are doing things that they should have done all along. They haven't even relesed the lineup yet. They wouldn't rely on us as we aren't the people they are trying to please with this.
 
Only me finding the irony Towers said in December, nearly 3 months ago, they were doing TLC and they haven't even been bothered to update the blog?
We've done more than in this topic than Towers have.

I don't think anyone reads the blog that doesn't also read a forum.
 
just done a google search and the first office page is 6 entries down for their twitter account. the other ones before that are alton tower enthusiasts forums

Google results are skewed based on your own personal web habits. Enthusiast sites will place highly for you because you visit fan sites lots.

True - but this should be a push to everyone. They know people feel the park has gotten run down, they should be shouting about improvements to everyone. Regardless of whether it's on a blog post or across their social media.

Start Page gives you unbiased results without tracking everything you do across the web, and it still puts this topic at the top of the page. Screengrab

That is why i did it on a newly build pc at work, on a new log in.
 
With just over a month to go until the park opens they better get a move on and announce something, otherwise people will start to book tickets, etc and be rather annoyed when they find out nearer the time that loads of things are closed.
 
I messaged Towers this week to ask about a new blog post to update on TLC as there overdue on information by a month.

I got a pretty bog standard response about the team being hard at work spreading the TLC love and that a blog post was coming up.

...It feels like they're holding off releasing ride closure information as long as possible!
 
What really irritates me more than hiding the ride closures is that they've had the last month to show things off to the public and get them on side BEFORE potential closures are announced.

They could have been showing the Nemesis repaint or anything else going on around the park - but instead they've kept quiet. I think this will be far more damaging for them now.

Whilst I appreciate that not telling people who are considering buy MAPs or tickets about this year's line-up is pretty poor, I hardly think keeping quiet during the closed season is going to be at all damaging. Realistically what are the chances that even 1% of people who visit the park this year will have read that blog, heard about it or even know that TLC now stands for 'Towers' Loving Care?

It's just in the nature of people on a forum to want to know every little detail about everything, but to absolutely everyone else we are an extremely small minority. I'm sure we didn't care so much about closed season activities last year?

I for one would have actually preferred it if we hadn't head a word from them about anything all winter, then see all of the changes (both good and bad) upon opening. Things like ride repaints and general sprucing up would have a been a great surprise!
 
They deserve a proverbial slap around the chops for this.

There's no excusing apparently closing so many rides and not informing the public before they purchase long commitment memberships.

This wouldn't be in anyway tolerated anywhere else, and shouldn't be tolerated here either.

TLC being held off, just makes no sense to me from a marketing perspective.

I have no idea what management are up to with this.

I have no idea obviously, who is in charge of such decisions, and am in no way pointing fingers at anyone - but SOMEONE will be responsible for it, to those people, I ask.

They're finally doing things to supposedly aid and increase guest satisfaction yet they're telling nobody. Perhaps if they had actually shared some of this stuff over the closed season the announcement of closed rides would not seen so sour in some guests mouths.

Regardless of being enthusiasts or not - if the park are doing things to improve the guest experience then they should be shouting about it on social media... People would be interested!

But then not saying anything could work to their advantage. Word of mouth marketing is pretty good stuff, which will be hugely increased when people see how good everything (hopefully) looks. I could see more people going to visit because they heard everything is all shiny and new from a friend rather than seeing a few updates on Facebook.
Just like The Smiler incident, people will forget what they have heard and seen elsewhere. Expecting little and getting much more would be better for guest satisfaction.

Not mentioning the lineup is wrong though, I'll leave it at that.

What they will notice however, is all of the newly closed attractions. The closures are what they will notice, talk about, and complain about. Not sure exactly what point I'm trying to make really, but there you go.
 
Given everything in the media you would think there would have been lots of closed season updates on social media. They could have shown the tracks being inspected and safety checks on rides. They could have shown Nemesis being repainted, new paths being laid... I know not *many* general members of the public will care about a new path, but it does show that work does happened over closed season. It shows the park doesn't simply close and stay still and shows there are always continuous improvements, from aesthetics to safety.

People will say if they notice a big visual difference. If they'd have painted Nemesis in the brightest most fluorescent shade of pink possible they would have for sure. I'm aware that is not the case.\

Admittedly, they will notice closed rides aswell - but both are very important.

They might notice, but they won't really care THAT much. However, closed rides........

We'll see which ones make the biggest impact with visitors this year. Or is this ludicrous as well? ;)

Barry is right. Some will notice a bit of sprucing up, been with people who've noticed how tatty things look for certain.

But it will pale into insignificance when ride closures are announced.

If they're somehow holding off to say RIDES CLOSED, but LOOK! We did some painting!! Well. Nothing more to say on that...

Rather than as @James pointed out, use it to show care and attention is paid to safety and aesthetics closed season, it could have even slightly mitigated the negative press.

@James' idea was actually very good, would have been a very healthy PR exercise. Ridiculously simple, and cheap idea.
