The I Feel Down Topic.

Does it involve stabbing a certain person I have to work with through both eyes with a rusty spoon? Because that would help. :)

This...this is something I've really been struggling with for the past week or so, and have only told a few people, but kinda feel I could do with sharing it a bit more widely.

Last Thursday, after a few tests, my gran was diagnosed with liver cancer. We knew she'd been undergoing these tests, and I think we suspected cancer was a possibility, but to actually have the news confirmed was a shock, which I know may sound weird. At this stage, we don't know how serious it is, as she's awaiting further tests and a biopsy. In a way, this could be worse than actually knowing - not knowing what's going on is unnerving. Not knowing whether it might only be a mild form of cancer or really aggressive and she might only have a few weeks left to live. We just have no idea. And that's the worst thing about it all! :/

Sorry to hear this Jonathan. Something similar is happening with us at the moment. My Father-in-law had a funny cough and they found a lump in his throat. We all thought that it would be the same as I had and that it would be relatively easy (although still worrying) to remove. He has now been in hospital for a month, breathing through a tracheostomy tube. The cancer is so large that he had to have an operation to fit a feeding tube ( he went without food for a week as he can't have a PEG fitted and it was Easter weekend so there was a shortage of doctors to carry out the procedure). We are now waiting for his complete laryngectomy on Tuesday, they will also try to fit a stoma to help with his breathing. It has been a very sad time all round. his dog (who he misses greatly) died last weekend.
I agree with you Jonathan, it is the not knowing that hurts the most. The family have come together and everyone is supporting each other. The nurses have been wonderful and the consultant speaks to us each Wednesday. But he can't give us any definite answers (it all depends on the success of the operation and what they find when they are in there).
I hope that your Gran is ok and I am sending you a big hug. Life sucks sometimes. x

The latest additions to my flight sim cockpit have turned up: a fuel select panel and a parking brake handel. Unfortunately, due to my cracked rib, I'm in no condition to start crawling around under the desk drilling and screwing things in place.... Or even sit in the cockpit at all.

To make things even better, the AV amp and Sky box have decided to stop seeing the network after a power bump yesterday, so I can't remote control them from my iPad (both device's IR remotes are totally knackered). The only way to fix this is to reboot both set top boxes, the network splitter, and the router in the right order. And guess what? Yup, that requires bending over and stretching under or behind furniture as well.

And @Kelpie won't be home to help this poor old invalid 'til at least 21:30.

Typical. I have a few days off, at least four different projects I could be cracking on with, and I can't do anything without incurring pain. (I'm trying not to take codeine unless I absolutely have to, as it really numbs my brain: All the dumbness of being seriously high... without any of the fun).

At least it seems*slightly less hurty than yesterday, I guess.

Today i am doing 'Raiders of the lost shed section' this part of my dads shed has not been touched since his death. It holds vintage and vintage military radios. Its hard to go though his man cave of fixing radios (his hobby) an he has a lot more that mum knows about.

Would a museum not be interested in his collection? So many others could enjoy his collection and you would know they were being looked after?

If not a museum, there's bound to be another radio geek out there who would enjoy them.

I haven't spoken to any of my family for 12 years. I still maintain that cutting them off was one of the best choices I have made in my life.

... Well today my father turned up unnanounced at the front door. And I was hungover.

Really not with it at the moment. Brain has gone AWOL. Not sure what to think, never mind what to do! I mean, it's been over a decade since I saw anyone I share DNA with, and I was hoping to keep it that way. They've had my address all this time, but aside from the occasional letter from my grandmother, this is the first time any of them have actually tried to come here.

Wow.

What did he say?

Mainly that he and the rest of the family (except my mother, presumably) want to get back in touch.
