Food and Beverage 2016

I would rather stick my head up my bum than go to a Weatherspoons. Poor quality mass produced pre-cooked food served in lifeless buildings with no atmosphere.

Have to disagree with you about 'Spoons there, old chap. Of course, it no doubt depends on the branch you visit, but in my experience they serve good quality food and a great range of unusual guest ales at very reasonable prices. And as far as venues go, the new purpose built one in Blackpool is fantastic. Hell, some of them are in old converted cinemas that were saved from demolition and restored.
.... but then, if your local 'Spoons is some grotthole in a city centre full of chavs and students, I can understand not liking them. ;)

Ahhh Eastern Express... The only outlet left on park which isn't run by Merlin! :p
Which is why it's actually decent.

I didn't even care about the theming when McDonalds had the contract at Towers, they could do your order, get it right and it was quick.

During the BK times, I waited many times over 15mins for the wrong order. Plus it was more expensive. Then Buggery King arrived and made it look magical.

Side point: I simply do not buy into any aspect of 'gourmet' burger (I've had Eds, Five Guys and Handmade - all crap) but thats from a man who does visit actual gourmet restaurants and has an issue with these places. I don't want to see one in towers, I do want somewhere where you can can get cheap, but not crap, burgers on the run. Its not bloody rocket science.

Also Im with @DiogoJ42 - I don't mind a Spoons. I have one pretty local (in an old church) and on nights Ive worked late and just want something cheap to eat, its good. You get what you pay for but if I can have a meal and a pint for £8 Im happy.

There's an argument that most Spoons are themed better than half of Alton Towers.

On last years Saturday fireworks at Eastern Express, a guy dropped some change into a freshly vat of freshly cooked beans. The look on his face was priceless as he had a queue of people waiting on beans just eye balling, that he now had to take back to the kitchen. I saw the glint in his eye as he pondered about saying nothing and serving beans before begrudgingly taking them back. Cue people shouting that "they would risk it". I almost felt sorry for him but he completely screwed up my order, so meh! Apart from that its the only decent place left after getting rid of the Mexican Cantina.

Two nit picks here...
1. Eastern express would be very good, but they fold the bloody paper napkin into the wrap, and you lose half the meat when you try to unfurl the napkin out of the food, and
2. The magnificent 'spoons in Blackpool (Velvet Coaster) wasn't purpose built,
it used to be an amusement arcade that featured in the TV series Blackpool.
There are at least 4 'spoons in Blackpool, they have probably snook another one in by now.
My pick for food at the towers... bring your own.

Huh. I'm not enough of a frequent visitor to remember what was there before tbh. But it all looked new and shiney, so assumptions were made...

It's quite a significant change

No Diogo, you aren't having it as new.
I watched it change...every rainy midweek day through the winter.
Because I am indeed that sad.
Even had a pet one legged seagull.
The Layton Raikes ('spoons) up on the north shore is named after a deceased amusement park,
and in the finest Merlin tradition, it has a bar on the roof made out of a shipping container.

Bit off topic but any chance of seeing the spoons called Layton Raikes like above?

Spellin erra...
It's the Leyton Rakes.
Give it a google.
And don't take your shirt off when on the roof garden,
they are very strict on the shirt and shoes rule!
It is one block in from the prom, between the north pier and tower.

"The" Leyton Rakes was a pleasure garden in the north Blackpoo suburbs,
gardens, lakes, ballroom dancing, roller skating, brass bands and so on.
Lovely fireworks every weekend in the season.
Never made any real money,
had problems with "ladies of the night".
Folded after a couple of seasons, now suburban housing.
The pub above does have a few photos on the wall of the real Leyton Rakes,
but is a couple of miles away from the actual site.

What new franchises would you like to see at Alton Towers? How about replacing The Burger Kitchen with Five Guys? I would much prefer that with their coke flavour mixing machines.

Think its more than likely week get coke freestyle machines soon now that thorpe have them. I don't personally like them, but it is a nice touch having ride themed mixes (so far, they have the saw mix and the stealth mix).

The Mexican Cantina used to be a nice place to eat, I like eastern express a lot. The only issue was that last time I went there the woman preparing the food had no sense of urgency!

If Towers did that, each burger would cost over £10 because price markups seeing as a fiveguys burger is already £6+ and that's without chips and a drink! Even more extortionate!

As much as I would like to see a five guys, it is very expensive for what it is and if ticket prices keep going up they will get to a point where they wouldn't be making much money. I say get McDonald's - £1.98 for a cheeseburger and coke!
