The I Feel Down Topic.

By the looks of things when I'm out and about, 'getting hench' is the new drugs these days. Drugs are bad. Large body and peanut head is the 'in' thing nowadays.
Can't speak for college, but this is definitely not the case in year 11. Most people are high at school all the time (one of my mock exams were fun as a result).

This may come as a suprise to some people though, but I'm a teenager who doesn't even drink, let alone drugs. Most people don't believe me ;)

Same, apart from the drink part. Not one to go out clubbing or to the pub but I don't mind a pint one or two times a week. Getting High or drunk don't appeal to me at all.

no, no, you're all wrong.. smoking shisha :p is the in thing for being hard at school nowadays, tis laughable they think it makes them look scary. I think it's best when they have a six pack, thinking that makes them hard, and it's really not, it's because you're skinny, not an bodybuilder (Admittedly I'm quite skinny, but I don't go up in peoples faces). It's also quite funny when the slightly more muscular ones think that having muscles means they can fight :D

1. You aren't smoking
2. It's not making you look intimidating in the slightest
3. You're not using it right

Pretty sure it was used to help smokers quit, not for people to try and look hard, as well as bringing a bad name to people who are actually trying to quit.

I don't drink either, apart from the very occasional beer at Christmas or events, doesn't really appeal to me to sit on a bench in a park with a 50p can of lager :p

Well anyway, as a responsible adult, I think I'm supposed to tell you to do as I say, not as I do.

Sooo, errr...

... sorry, got distracted. I left my short term memory somewhere in Camden about 15 years ago.
*swigs beer and tokes on a Marlboro wishing it was something else*

Yes! How did I forget about that. It's amazing the amount of times the smoke alarm goes off because of it. Best thing is how they try to not get caught. I had someone hiding under my table once in ict, so he could hide from the teacher. He forgot though that the smoke(?) Coming out from the top of the desk made it pretty obvious :p

That will change soon, don't worry mate ;)
It's not so much because of me, it's because about 13 years ago I got pneumonia and it was really bad and my mum blames the large amount off alcohol my dad gave me a few days earlier (at that point, I'd be three. He also used to let me breath in alot of second hand cigarette smoke, If that tells you anything about his parenting skills ;)). My parents don't let me drink or anything or go places where I could, so it's not by choice.

Well My mum was an alcoholic who smoked and drank during pregnancy, and it never did me any har- URK!
Sorry, just a minor heart attack.
My doctor genuinely proclaimed me "cured" of asthma not long after I took up smoking (from GCSE stress, no less).

Getting back to seriousity, there's plenty of time for experimenting with intoxicants (legal or otherwise) when you are older. Or not, as the case may be. Whatever you do, just be sure that if you do decide to try some form of mind altering substance, it's because you want to try it, not because of peer pressure. ;)
While my serious hat is on, if you ever have any questions about such things, feel free to shoot me a PM (probably shouldn't be going in to too many details on a public forum ;) )I can tell you from experience (personal or seen friends go through it) which ones to avoid and which ones are harmless.
EDIT TO ADD: the worst addiction I have ever seen a friend go through?....... Gambling. Make of that what you will.

.... Aaaanyway, happy thoughts everybody!

I just feel a bit miserable, nothing compared to what I know other members have right now and I have no idea why

The last couple of weeks have been awful. Husband moved out, nightmare situation at work with a bully that has really stressed me out, the cats have had fleas which have been resistant to treatment, and now I've found my poor rabbit dead. Absolutely gutted.

As we went to bed last night, Belkar, one of our rats, was in a bad shape. We knew the odds of him surviving the night were slim.
As we feared, this morning he was dead.

What we had not expected to find was his corpse stripped of all flesh round his neck and jaw. Seriously, the jawbone was picked clean. No blood, so it clearly happened after he died, but there is no doubting that at least one of his cagemates had a good feast on his corpse.

I know wild rats will eat their friends (and even their own children) but domesticated pets? In the decade or so I've kept rats, I've never known this to happen. Even the vet was shocked when we took what was left of Belkar's body in to be disposed of.

I've had about 9 or 10 rats over the years and I've been fortunate enough that none have them have ever been eaten by their cage mates when they passed, but I do here it's quite a common occurrence and completely natural, some even suggest it's the other rats' way of processing the loss (strange as it may seem)

I used to remove them from the cage away from others when I knew their time was coming but now I prefer to leave them in so the others understand what's happened.

Either way it's horrible when they go. Just lost badger my old dumbo a few months ago so I only have salt and pepper left. Sorry for your loss :(

We've had well over 20 (have actually lost count tbh) of the little critters over the years, and I've never known them to do this. I've had a couple that have tried to eat me a few times though...

Maybe we've just been lucky. That's why I used to take them out the cage when the end was nigh because I'd read about it, but these days I just think if it happens it happens.
To be honest the others usually tend to avoid the body like the plague so it does make me wonder why this would happen

Apparently it's an instinct. They want to dispose of the body as fast as possible before it starts decomposing and attracting scavengers.

Rodents only display when they are ill too late. Our Guinea Pigs both died recently with no symptoms until they were gone :(

Yup. Small critters have binary health. They can suffer horriffic physical injuries, spurting blood everywhere, and they hardly seem to notice. But they only have to catch a minor sniffle and they can be dead within the week. :(

I've had ones with tumours but mainly it seems to be respiratory problems that gets them in the end. Mites are a nightmare as well and very difficult I get rid of on such a small animal without harming their health.

I found out that because of inherent inbreeding and overbreeding of fancy rats a lot of them are born with respiratory problems but it's only later in life that they start showing them.

Also to anyone who might be reading this who has small animals/rodents as pets please don't use shavings or hay as their bedding. Hay can get up their nose and cause damage and the fumes from the resin and the dust in pine shavings are really bad for their lungs. Try and get a paper based/dust extracted bedding wherever possible but keep it sealed after opening as I think this is where mites tend to come from

Just got a phone call from my uncle, turns out my grandads been sent to the hospital with a bleed on his brain. Thing is he's also collapsed 3 times recently and no one apart from my uncle has bothered telling me despite knowing . I guess they thought it would be better not to tell me, but if something did suddenly happen and I didn't know, it would be a lot worse. He couldn't get up the stairs when he went for his check up and then collapsed so was sent straight in. Its not a stroke but I can't help fearing the worst :(
