Doctor Who

As I belive others have said it's the scripts that are currently letting the show down, not the casting or production quality. I can't remember the last time we had a great, standalone episode. Most seem to suffer from a selection of the following problems:
- They've tried to cram too much story into too little time
- A compelling idea is skimmed over
- A nonsensical idea becomes the centre of the plot
- Charecters start acting out of character
- The episode is poorly paced, normally losing focus at several points.

And I hate to say it but I agree the show can be too preachy at times. It would be nice for once to have an openly gay character that we simply acknowledge then move on. I thought they were going that way with Bill but then they started acknowledging it every episode.

Don't care about the decision as I don't watch it and even if I did I can't see why there's a big fuss about it. Female Sci-Fi leads can be just as badass

The problem for me with Doctor Who is that it's s**t and not even a female lead can change that. The BBC just cannot afford to replicate it's US counterparts and the budget/cheapness coupled with poor story telling and bad writing is why it's a cult following and nothing more.

My issue with doctor who is it fails at everything it wants to be. It tries to be scary but it isn't scary whatsoever. It tries to be funny but the jokes fall flat. It tries to be emotional but it becomes rather irritating when the viewer gets bored.

Most Sci fi shows are cult following. Star trek his very hit and miss. Doctor who has always been British. Its pandering to the America market is why its suffered so much under Moffatt.

No it was pandering to Moffatt's ego that caused it to suffer, which is a crying shame since the guy bought us one of the best episodes of the Tennant era and that jacket easter egg long before anybody had even considered it a spoiler.

I don't want to suffer the wrath of the good doctors fans, but...
It was originally a kids/family programme, and I gave up watching it about four decades ago, because it wasn't scary anymore, the plots were crap, and there were better programmes on the telly now we had BBC2 as well as BBC1 and ITV.
There have been female doctors now in Britain for over a hundred and fifty years...
Why all the fuss?

Which episode was that? And jacket easter egg?

Episode: Weeping Angels (shame he then ruined them).

Jacket: Can't quiet remember, it was in Matt Smith's early run, he wasn't wearing a jacket in the episode and did one of his 'wait there I'll be right back' run offs, he then comes back, with jacket on, mutters some nice words to whoever it was, then run off again, a few minutes later he then returns, minus jacket and the scene continues, most people thought it was a wardrobe ccontinuity error, but something like 8 episodes later they reveal the jacket wearing Doctor was from the future.

That kind of writing takes talent, shame his ego got in the way and he decided it was easier to pen 'timey wimey' in as an explanation of stuff instead of actually explaining things properly.

IMHO of course.

With the writing aspect, this what worries me most more than whoever is cast as the Doctor. I do agree it has always had something of a pandering message from years back, though lately the pandering messages has really been taking to new heights. With that and the convoluting storylines, it is little wonder why many have been turned off by the show of late and I do feel that Moffat's run will be looked back with mostly disappointment as when he started everyone was looking forward to his reign.

Also I did forget to mention that when I did see the news that there was a female Doctor, I wasn't shocked as many but rather like, "Hmm, thought that this would happen," because if you watch back this current series, both on and off, then the amount of hints that there was a female Doctor coming next is quite honestly laughable, it's like they couldn't contain themselves and left some heavy hints along the way.

Either way, regardless what happens next in the show's run, the new Doctor and writing team are going to be under the most pressure since the first appearance of the second Doctor and the idea of regeneration, a hell of a gamble it'll be, but time will tell as they say...

<some guff about Janeway>

Bad example of a female lead there dude. The most incompetent captain in Starfleet history, who stranded her crew, passed up multiple attempts to get them home again, and ran her ship like a crazed dictator is not a role model just for being a woman! :p

Still better than their first choice for the role who couldn't even speak English properly haha

Oh, of course! :p

Though for the record, I have no problem with Kate Mulgrew's performance, Janeway was just a very badly written character. Let's hope the same doesn't happen in Who!

<some misogynistic guff about female stereotypes>

Would have made for a very poor show if they hadn't got lost "New for 1995 Star Trek Rehash"

Janeway was the best Captain, anyone who disagrees can fight me irl. :D:cool:

No, Sisko was the best captain.

.... But anyway, Daleks or something...

You mean the guy who sang The Thong Song? :tearsofjoy:

Like I said fight me irl!! :triumph::kissingcat:

I think we should hijack the thread personally with talk of a better Sci-fi franchise, I love a good 'Whovian' roast :smilingimp:
