SeaWorld Orlando: General Discussion

Mako back row with a bit of room is incredible.
From my memory, Mako in any row was incredible, and I rode it when people still said it lacked airtime and that the ending was the best part of the ride! It was so good, in fact, that it's still my number 1 nearly 3 years later!

If you're willing to stay in crap hotels and avoid Disney, you can do Orlando really cheaply, especially if you travel outside of school holidays.
I'm willing to do both! I'm getting married in Orlando in 2020 and am desperate to avoid the crowds at Disney (DLP last week during French half term was bad enough, without having to worry about the unbearable MK in). Sea World, Busch and Fun Spot all the way for me. Unfortunately the bride to be has other ideas......

I can't speak for Disney other than Animal Kingdom, but Universal is definitely worth a visit alongside those, in my opinion! I'm sure Disney is great, too; I'll be able to talk to you about that in April!

Exciting updates regarding the 2019 and 2020 additions to SWO.

Sesame Street opens this Wednesday! The area is pretty much complete and it looks to be very nice with some decent theming. There is some confusion over whether or not there is a pass member preview this weekend, some pass members received an email but others did not.

Onto project 2020. A few days late on this but permits have been filed for new buildings and infrastructure associated with the ride. The cost of buildings alone is close to $7 million so if we didn't know already, we can tell that this will be a large new attraction. More information to come before too long I suspect.

Do you know what area in the park the 2020 project is going?

Sesame Street has opened for annual pass previews today to rave reviews, it officially opens on Wednesday! The new parade as well as the detailed theming and interactive elements have gone down particularly well.

Some details of the 2020 coaster project have started to leak. The info so far points to the following-

Built by Premier Rides and will be a Shuttle coaster with transfer track (like how Star Trek at Movie World works)

You will leave the station and then a transfer track will move across to connect with you the main ride . At this point the ride launches backwards partly up a beyond Vertical spike, you then launch forward hitting a top hat but not making it over the top, you then launch backwards again all the way up the beyond vertical spike before the final 4th launch takes you over the top hat. The height of the spike & top hat is estimated to about 150ft.

The crest of the top hat will feature some stall/holding breaks over the edge (much like Intamins stall on the top hat of their new planned coasters). From there the layout features a number of s-curves, a sidewinder, Banked turns, Twisting double up & some airtime hills etc. The layout is fairly short, and expected to feature two trains (possibly 3) trains would be like Six flags Magic Mountains full throttle.

SeaWorld recently put a trade mark in for the name 'Abyss', might not be for this project but good chance it will be.

Four "back-and-forth" monents‽ How decedent! Will this madness never end?

Won't someone please think of the children‽

I would exactly call it a quadruple launch coaster. Sounds like a cop out really. Still, at least they’re not getting a Sky Rocket II like every other park in the chain.

Presumably capacity would make it a bad choice for that park, but those rides are AWESOME!

I don't think I'll ever understand enthusiasts desire to deride copies of great things 100s or 1000s of miles from each other. I hope that custom kit car you drive is fun and was worth all the hassle.

I’ve not ridden one since 2014 but yes, they are good rides. I don’t think it would have been the best decision to get one though seeing as they have just installed one down the I4 at Busch Gardens.

Not really heard many people criticise the ride experience. They are decent rides, the primary problem with them are the restraints, also some of the parks who have installed them the throughputs are way too low for the guest numbers (a good park operator thinks about more than just the ride experience). Now if they had a turntable dual loading system and tweaked the shin killing restraints I think they would be a more popular choice.

Always thought one would be a good choice for Thorpe considering the park is struggling at the moment and lacking investment. You do get a lot of bang for your buck.

I was thinking about this the other day and yeah they don't tend the build the same ride type at BGT and SWO. The most similar you'll get is Kraken and Kumba and they're still technically different ride types.

As for the Sky Rocket, I will be riding Tigris in a couple of weeks as well the one at Holiday Park in July and I do think they look a lot of fun. But I think they're best suited to small parks or those just tight on space. I'd welcome one in the UK though.

See I never understood why people hate clones. Yeah I get the whole idea you wouldn't be excited but for the locals is a great way to experience one without having to travel hundreds or even thousands miles to try. And at the end of the day, a cred is a cred! :p

@Dave Premier offer a sliding station to allow for two train operation, but only one operator has bought one, as far as I know - instead larger parks have opted for an 18 seater train.

Could work for Thorpe. I do wonder if one of these would have been more warmly received than Icon and at a fraction of the price.
