The Alton Towers Dungeon

I've never been inside (I refuse to pay for it), but the exterior still looks really temporary - could it be the case that this is a trial year? I can't see it being popular unless there were to do something like including it in FastTrack or Merlin passes.

I suppose the real test will be summer...

It is temporary, it's only meant to be there for two seasons I think?

That’s what has been suggested, it’s a midway investment not a theme park resort investment. If it works I suspect they will look for a more permanent home for it.
I think it's fairly apparent from the crowds outside it on busy weekends being non existent and free tickets being handed out that it is not working. The only wildcard I can see is school trips using it as an "educational" justification for going to the Towers

Suits me, always thought it was a stupid idea. Hopefully it will be consigned to the scarily large pile of failed Merlin ideas.

Just glad it hasn’t actually cost the park much to implement.

Indeed, on a fairly busy bank holiday weekend where a couple of rides are up to an hours queue at 10.30am in the morning, if you look on the app to book a Dungeons ticket you can still pick from every single time slot all day today - they all have availability.

I think that speaks volumes for the popularity of the attraction.

Sorry for the double post, but looking at the Dungeons tickets again - it appears that from Tuesday onwards (for the rest of the season), the earliest time slot you can book is 12pm.

Previously time slots started at 10am. Does this signal reduced opening times after less than 2 months of operation?

Yes they are now opening the attraction from 12 pm, but they are also running the attraction later, so apparently its the same number of time slots

Wait; the Dungeons are shut on peak Scarefest & Fireworks days? Seems like a strange decision; I'd have thought they'd be raking it in on those days based on how busy it seems to get! Midweek on a non-event day I could understand, but on a peak day like those days, it does seem like a slightly bizarre decision to me.

Guys, guys. I think he's slowly realising that Merlin couldn't organise a p*** up in a brewery.

Don't forget that the Dungeons sits in the fall out zone during Fireworks.
Ah, that's a plausible explanation! Good suggestion @RoyJess!

I'm not doubting Merlin's operational skills as they clearly can operate a theme park, I was just questioning that particular decision.

Not reducing opening times

That shouldn’t stop them being open 10-5 though?

Unless of course they are open but they’ve given them out as a freebie for hotel guests as there’s no ERT. Big bang tickets would probably get a free tickets as well.
