Funny things you've overheard people say in queuelines

slightly off topic but I worked in a cinema, and I once had to clean up after someone had pooped in the foyer and kicked it out of their trouser leg and carried on (I also had to do a lot worse but this convo reminded me)

Student days, many years ago, when political correctness simply didn't exist.
Wednesday late afternoons in the students union bar, after "universal sports"...if the away rugby team didn't like the beer, they would leave a curly log in an ashtray.
If they really didn't like the beer and had stuffed the home side, they often left a long one on the bar.
Bit of a tradition, the bar manager would say, reaching for the paper towels and disinfectant.
Oh, those were the days.

What a time to be alive.

I was in the queue for the River Caves at BPB - it was probably 10 mins max. A guy started complaining about the queue - "I've been to Disney World in America, you never have to queue for anything over there - they actually know what they are doing unlike the parks over here". He kept going on and on, and I just smiled and nodded.

Got to the point where I was getting really annoyed with him and said "you must have been lucky, when I worked for Disney the average queue length at WDW was 1hr 20". He went bright red and shut up.

Although Disney do know what they are doing there’s a load more people in the parks that over here.
I'm sure their attendance is more to do with the UK being about a 100th of the size of the US. So their operations definitely need to be a totally different league.

Although UK parks even compared to most on the continent are really far behind on operations

I'm not sure I completely agree with this. In the US operations vary greatly - just look at some of the Six Flags parks... Six Flags America has atrocious operations.

Where some of the larger US parks excell is that their rides have been built to support high capacity (ie Disney, BG, Universal) - they can also afford to throw people at their rides (take a look at how many people they have working on rides at WDW).

In Europe, some parks have excellent operations (Europa comes to mind), but many of the others have much poorer operations than the main UK parks (the big Spanish parks come to mind).

I do think that when you visit a park for the first time, the excitement gets in the way of noticing some of the failings. I remember the first time I rode Expedition Everest - I queued for over 3 hours, would I do that for Nemisis? No, and Nemisis is a far superior ride IMO.

I did!
Back in the day, more than once, on the old path that went round the top.
Then they added the entrance top left extension by the entrance gate, and round the back.
Often in work time...those were the days.

I queued 4 hours for Wicker Man on its opening weekend, so I'd definitely queue 3 hours for Nemesis!

I know, it looks an awesome coaster, but not 16 hours worth of awesome! You could almost fly out there and back again in that time!
Does it though? I think it looks well themed and emersive, but an awesome coaster? I think it looks pretty average.
