You think nemesis will last 40 years? PHA wouldn't surprise me if it only has another 5 years and then is replaced

If anything, it would be replaced with an identical ride, just replace the track and supports and the ride hardware. I still can't see anything put in its place which would top it.

yeah depends if they filled in the extended warranty form and returned it within the 28 days

They forgot to return the extended warranty back in 1994 so now the only option is for people on summer holidays to guess what's wrong with the coaster and condemn it to the scrapheap.

Did they really forget to return the extended warranty?

I think I was being a bit harsh on Nemesis, compare the ride to Colossus at Thorpe Park and Nemesis feels brand new. Nemesis is not the smoothest ride anymore but it is not painful.

No ride at towers is rough as such tbh. Yes there's the odd jolt on the smiler but it's nowhere near as bad as enthusiasts make it out. I was on back row yesterday and it wasn't bad. Smoother towards the front yes but I wouldn't class it by any means rough.

Anyone witness this?

Would hardly call the lift hill “left hanging” usual Sun making it sound worse than it is.

Another non story.

Here is a copy and paste for those that don't want to use the click bait

PASSENGERS on Alton Towers’ The Smiler were today left trapped 100ft in the air for 20 minutes after the ride broke down.

Just before 6pm a carriage full of thrillseekers came to an abrupt halt as they were being pulled up the vertical part of the rollercoaster.

Thrillseekers were left stranded on the vertical part of the ride for 20 minutes today

Video footage shows people stranded 100ft in the air

Leah Washington had her leg amputated following a crash on The Smiler in 2015

A terrifying photo shows stranded people hanging vertically and forced to stare into the sky at the top of the ride for 20 minutes.

Engineers were eventually able to free those from the carriage after reversing it back down the ride.

Staff at the park are working to reset the ride this evening so it will be open for guests visiting the park tomorrow.

“THEY MUST BE TERRIFIED”
One witness said: “The Smiler getting stuck on the vertical part is giving me the absolute fear.

“The poor people on that ride must be terrified.”

It comes just four years after an accident on the rollercoaster left five people seriously injured.

Some 16 people were on board one of its carriages when it collided in June 2015 with a stationary carriage at 52mph, causing injuries to riders.

We apologise to all guests affected by the stoppage on The Smiler late this afternoon.

Alton Towers
Two young women — Vicky Balch and Leah Washington — had legs amputated after the 52mph smash at the Staffordshire theme park last June.

Describing the incident, Leah recalled: “I can remember everything. It was like driving a car into a brick wall.

“I knew my knees were bad because I could feel flesh but I couldn’t feel pain and just thought I had broken some bones.”

£5MILLION FINE
Just months after the crash, the company plead guilty to health and safety charges and owner Merlin Attractions was fined £5million.

Prosecutors said the victims of the crash suffered “indescribable pain” and had “their lives turned upside down”.

An Alton Towers spokesman said: “We apologise to all guests affected by the stoppage on The Smiler late this afternoon.

“Our guest relations team have spoken to everyone on board to offer return tickets to the park as compensation for the inconvenience.

“Our technical team are working to reset the ride this evening so this should not affect guests visiting the park tomorrow.”

Vicky Balch has previously spoken about the ordeal which saw her having to have her right leg amputated at the knee after the 2015 crash

If there's any Nemesis fans here - and i know there is, you might want to fill out the surverys in the tablets in the Alton Towers shops. There's two questions about "How well do you rate the following rides", the only two options there are Nemesis and Rita.

Everything fine on The Smiler

Today guests were left safely waiting on the lift hill as the ride performed exactly as designed.

An eye witness reported the car stopped on the lift hill for twenty minutes until engineers reversed the train and evacuated all guests. Later the guests were seen walking around enjoying themselves and carrying on with their day.

Hugh Cares was one of the guests left waiting. "We were on the train going up the lift, then it stopped. Later it moved and we got off. I was slightly peeved off as I fancied some fried chicken but had to wait for it"

Not at all like the incident in 2015

Reports suggest everything was completely normal and this was a routine stoppage, like those that happen at every park every day, and therefore there's no point us mentioning the collision in 2015 as that would be completely irrelevant.

The Smiler, the world's first 14 looping coaster, opened in 2013.

My overly presumptions mind is wondering if it’s market research to find the least popular for the next SW site.

Gonna call it now. Too expensive to maintain so Nemesis is left to rot in it's pit for a few years before eventually being teared down and replaced by an upcharge cut and paste midway attraction. Then blaming it's closure on negative guest feedback.

RIP in peace Nemesis x

Well, i don't think it will be an upcharge, but it's possible it'll be the site for a new SW.

The park finds it's much easier to get planning permission on sites that have already got rides on them.

If you're right then it's up to Nemesis (or Rita) fans to vote. I have.

That is genius! Thank you for making my day!
