Thorpe Park: General Discussion

There’s a carving in one of the trees in the Colossus queue line saying “RMC 2020”

Guess it was just someone messing around :sob:
1) I hate idiots who damage things in queues, especially if you're someone who clearly cares enough about the park to know what ride you want next
2) a UK RMC would be better at Alton as is has more potential for being a great terrain coaster, Thorpe should go for a hyper of some sort for whenever they get a new ride, Intamin, B&M or even a newer Vekoma would do, as it's only Merlin park with the capability of getting one in the UK

At least they seem to be trying with Fright Nights this year. Creek Freak Massacre is obviously inspired by Tulley's Chop Shop. I hope they take more ideas from Tulley's being one of the best scare events in the country.

Creek Freak Massacre could be good but the rest of the lineup is uninspiring IMO, no Saw Alive either even though it's there (assume the structure is no longer fit for use?)

I hope not.

Don't get me wrong, Tulleys is great, and taking an idea or two from them is fine. But the more ideas you take, the more it just feels like a rip off of the event, and the park would struggle to compete like-for-like.

Be different and actually give people a reason to go to Fright Nights over Tulleys.

Thorpe will never be able to contend with Tulleys unless they start recruiting the right actors.

Their mazes are crammed full of 18 year old girls making strange clicking noises in your face and shouting cringe worthy scripted rubbish.

Which is further reason to not take ideas from Tulleys' mazes and themes. The comparisons would be even more stark

It is plainly obvious that Merlin have scaled back ride capex investment at their resort theme parks.

Visited Thorpe Park yesterday courtesy of a couple of free tickets from The Sun. The park was very quiet and we’d pretty much done everything by 11.30am. It was nice to be allowed multiple re-rides without leaving the station on a few rides.

Took my first ever ride on DBGT. I can see why Derren implores you twice during the ride “to keep it a secret” I’m glad we didn’t have to queue for it.

There as was amusing moment in the batching room on The Walking Dead: The Ride where the ride op painstakingly explained there were actors that may touch you, but if you touch them back you will be escorted offsite. One girl panicked and asked to leave, but was quickly told “don’t worry there’s no actors today”

I've been chuckling away to myself about this for hours.

The Fright Nights event was an absolute shambles last year and that line-up does not reassure me that it will be any better this year at all.

The Merlin parks are falling further and further behind dedicated UK scare attractions, and European rivals, each year. A shame, as the offerings used to be genuinely excellent.

I visited over 20 UK scare events last year and it's safe to say Fright Nights was by far the worst, I'm quite frankly amazed some of their attractions got signed off by their marketing team - quantity over quality.

Considering their marketing suggesting a re-imagining of Fright Nights, I'm very disappointed in the line up again this year. Blair Witch and Platform scream low budget and need to be retired, Walking Dead lacks any real scares. Hopefully Freak Creek will be their one decent maze!

Their one and only descent maze.

...

Mmmmm

My last frightnight was 2017. I’m in no rush to go back.

I've honestly never cared for scare mazes at theme parks. I really only go to parks at Halloween for the night rides tbh. I went to Scarefest in 2013 and did the Sanctuary and thought it was terrible (although Carnival of Screams was decent tbf). Despite that I do see the appeal with these kind of things.
