2019: Rulantica

If your entire attitude is "if you think this is bad then you should write to the park about it", doesn't that kind of defeat the point of a discussion forum?

Weird how defensive some people get as soon as anything critical at all is said about Europa.
Trust me. I agree it's not great.

I was entirely directing my post at siralgenon for somewhat sarcastic reasons.

While we're on the subject of Rulantica, I'm concerned it's going to be far too small in the first instance. But that's negative so I had best keep up the pretence everything is perfect.

Absolutely not. This is how you provide a paid for premium service; unlike fastack a paid for earlier entry does not opperate to the detrement of other guests. It does not matter to anyone with a regular ticket if others have paid to go at a different time, it will not adversly effect their day at all, where as with fastack every time someone buys a ticket everyone else waiting for that ticket loses riding time and increases queuing time. That is a huge difference and why I so vehemently detest fastrack.

My point was it sort of “feels” like a paid for premium service, akin to Fastrack. It certainly does operate to the detriment of other guests, more so hotel guests (as I pointed out), but also as others have pointed out to the detriment of those who will turn up at what they expect to be opening time only to realise there’s already queues for the slides.

That system is already in place in the main park, but it’s limited to certain rides. As stands in Rulantica, not only do all hotel guests receive early entry, but also anyone else willing to pay for it. That’s not what the main park does and as such it feels like there is more of a paid for premium experience being offered for Rulantica.

So I follow a couple of EP staff members on snapchat, and last night one of them snapped a couple of pictures in spa-like robes, walking around parts of the waterpark which looked fairly complete. Looks like we’re at a point where staff testing is happening :)

They have been testing slides for a while, actually.

Not long now, really!

Roland Mack turned 70 on Saturday, and in true Europa-Park fashion a stupidly over the top private party including a spectacular show took place in Rulantica. This of course has given us a sneak peak in to a nearly completed Rulantica:

EDIT:

EP have just shared this concept to reality comparison graphic:

Rutlantica looks pretty sweet, no doubt about it. Interested how throughputs are. For a company obsessed with capacity, there are challenges that are difficult to overcome in a water park.

You've obviously not been to a German water park. I was recently at the nearby Badparadies Schwarzwald in Titisee (yes, that is a real name!). In the UK it's normally one person down a slide at a time. Not so here. For most of the slides, you just keep on going. Admittedly the slides didn't tend to have sudden drops and accelerations, and on quite a few of them you had tyres that would cusion the impact if there were a collision. There were a couple of faster slides with a turnstile at the top and bottom. The next rider couldn't slide until the previous one had exited. I still couldn't see a UK water park being run like that. Even in the summer holiday there wasn't much queuing. I'm sure if the same slides had been in the UK we'd have been waiting 15 - 20 minutes each time. I presume they don't have a lot of reported accidents though, or they'd have to change.

I hear that some of the slides do have multiple queues, so I wonder whether they're doing single rider queues for the multi rider raft rides. Holiday World in America has single rider lines for some of their water slides. It also has long opening hours to presumably distribute guests over a considerable period.

I do agree it will be interesting. As you say, water slides often don't lend themselves to high throughputs.

@Funcone sounds like an interesting way of operating a water park! I will have to visit next time I am at Europa.

Maybe they can get people through more quickly on body slides, but I think that's harder on raft slides if they aren't amending the hardware (and they might be!).

As much as I love Holiday World, the single rider lines in Splashin' Safari are nauseating. I get it on a coaster, but snuggling up to a half naked stranger on a clover leaf raft is a step too far. One guy had a terrible skin problem on his leg that was on top of mine in the centre of the raft, he looked as mortified as I was.

The closest I've been to death was on a water slide operated in a rogue manner, but that's a story for another day.

Not long at all there! It appears that much of the inside is now complete but there's still a fair bit of work to be done on the outdoor areas. I wonder if these will be ready for when Rulantica opens? I certainly hope that the Vildstrøm wild river is open come the end of December!

Not sure if this has been posted already but...

...but it's a start!

There's also a comparison of Överstor from concept into reality with finishing touches being applied:

Even with that map I’m still struggling to fully get my head around the layout. I feel like this gives the impression that there’s less than what will actually be there. For example, it took me ages to work out that the reason you can only see half a lazy river is because the other half has a roof

I'm not the biggest fan of water parks, but I'm genuinely looking forward to this!

I think the marketing and concepts for Rulantica have made the Waterpark look much bigger and more immersive than it actually is, which I think will come as a disappointment to a few when it actually opens. I think the lead up to is has made it out to be a 360 degree themed world where in fact it's a nicely themed waterpark, but Inbetween the themed areas it just looks like any other pool. I think this most comes across when you see the finished park map compared to the first maps and layouts.
