How Busy?

Generally speaking, the ride queues tend to be quieter in the evening as mazes will absorb an hour of people's time.

What I would recommend regarding fast tracks is look at ride times via http://ridetimes.co.uk/ or the Alton towers app. The 12th, 13th should give you the best idea about queues for the dates you are going, so just check a few times during the day like morning afternoon and evening. If the queues look busy, it might be worth getting fast track.

Also consider that weather plays a big part. I'm expecting it to be quieter this weekend as the forecast is rain, but a sunny day can bring extra people out.

Seems like most English school kids will be off from 19th, but it varies from school to school. Scottish schools have broken up by then too, so this will add to crowds.

Generally I'd say it's going to be busy, but I think you'll have time to do everything, especially over two days as you plan.

Remember also it depends on your willingness to queue, I don't mind queues 30 minutes and less, you might have a different tolerance.

The Theme Park is not open on Thursday 17th, only from Friday 18th.

It is open 10-4pm Thursday 17th

Thanks for the advice Lurker, much appreciated.

I’ve come to learn with these sort of things “it is what it is”. If the queues are long there’s nothing you can do but take a view on how long you’re personally willing to wait (I’m generally a 30 min top or 45 absolute max kind of person), just like if it pelts it with rain there’s nothing I can do about it so best just to get on as best you can.

Having two days is always a bonus and it’s what we nearly always do anyway as the park is a meagre 280 miles away ..

Looking forward to going to a scare fest date for the first time.

Thanks Again.

Hello, I'm planing to visit AT in June (15.-21.-ish) next year. I'm not from England and I'm unfamiliar with the holidays, school terms, breaks and whatnot. I know I should avoid weekends, but what about the weekdays based on holidays ect.? Something to worry about?

This time is outside all school holidays in the UK as the Scottish schools don’t break off until a week later.

There will probably be school trips through the midweek though.

It shouldn’t be too bad midweek that week.

As Kingslayer mentions, there aren't any school holidays, so it won't ever be too busy. But looking at the last couple of years of crowd data from Queue Times, the start of the month is less busy than toward the end, and Tuesday is consistently the least busy day overall. So aim for earlier in the month AND week and you should have the best chance of a quiet day.

Are you planning on doing two days on park? That would be my recommendation if you can manage it, because then you don't have to be quite as rushed, trying to fit as much into a single day (especially because AT has some insanely short hours - like they close at 4PM).

Anybody got any ideas how busy opening weekend usually is?
Most years ive gone on a week day after opening weekend but my shifts arent kind this year.

Is it likely to be rough saturday and sunday?

How busy would the weekday Oktoberfest dates be in mid-September? The opening times are 10-6 but I do realise queues will be different this year than usual (more demand and limited capacity) where September weekdays have a reputation of being very quiet. Also, are there any weekdays in particular that are better to go on or avoid for September level crowds? Thank you :)

I don't think we can reliably predict how busy the park will be but September weekdays are never busy.

Early September...students not back, late September, Scottish holidays,
With the cheap season passes, it isnt as quiet as it used to be, but midweek, mid sept or mid oct is as good as it gets.

Any days during the school week that are better or worse to visit on? For some reason, Thursdays seem to be busier in previous years than Fridays but for the past few seasons, the park has been shut Mon-Wed.

It’s really hard to predict now how busy the parks will be. I guess more annual pass and season pass holders may try to visit in sept, but that also depends if towers release more annual pass tickets.

I’m hoping the park is quiet in sept when hopefully by then most people will be at school, uni and back to work. But who knows this year!

Trying to find the quietest day possible!

What will be quieter, the passholder weekend days or a weekday in the first week of November?

Can anyone give a heads up on how busy it generally is September weekends? Unfortunately myself and a group had to book for next Saturday rather than a weekday, because one of us works in a school and can't afford time off. We barely got on anything when we went during the summer two years ago - I'm hoping (and generally expecting) not to have a repeat of that.
