I'm beginning to think the best way to stop this is to stop all flights in every country, stop all travel. Close schools, get as many people confined to their homes as possible. Get on top of the virus and stop it spreading until there are no new cases in all countries. Then re-open the borders.

Will it happen - no.

I agree but it’s impossible to enforce. I made a similar comment earlier in the thread

so do I win thread of the year for 2020 yet?

In other news. People keep breaking into the toilet roll holders at work and nicking the loo roll.

It’s a sensible and responsible decision to take.

Agreed. Would not blame Merlin or any other park owners for taking the same precaution. I do feel sad for people who are due to travel out there though. My thoughts are with them.

Just reading that Disney have closed ALL their parks around the world.....

I do wonder if Merlin will follow suit.... I think visitor numbers will be hugely down anyway.

So, which parks do we think will go bust of there are long term closures?

My bets are on:

Pleasure Beach
Six Flags chain
Lake Compounce
Fun Spot chain
Sharko : Lightwater Valley

Because once you reopen the borders it starts it’s spread again. You will by now have super carriers who harbour the virus for months without showing symptoms. You can’t shut down the country for months as then you start killing people in other ways:

The plan is to slowly infect the young population to create herd immunity. That’s until a vaccine is developed. You do it slowly so the health system doesn’t get overwhelmed.

You want a steady rate of infection in the healthy, I know this sounds callous towards those at risk but biology doesn’t really care. The virus will spread and it won’t be stopped by shutting down borders (that only works in virus that kill quick like Ebola).

That’s the theory anyway.

Premier League and EFL game suspended until the 3rd April. What the chuff am i supposed to do on Saturdays now.

Our medical practices are closing their waiting rooms, asking people to phone reception then wait in their car until their appointment.

What about those who can't drive, or those without a mobile phone, I hear you ask? Nothing.

Same here, had a text this morning.

It looks like much of our lectures will go online starting next week as well. It's difficult, as we don't know if we're sitting exams or not. Students may have to go into isolation if they travel home and then may not be able to get back were the exams to go ahead.

If nothing else this episode will help spotlight people with a predisposition towards anxiety disorders, hopefully leading to treatment and a reduction in the mental health crisis this country is facing

As someone with a severe anxiety condition, I’m inclined to agree.

Honestly, my biggest concern isn’t catching the virus myself (I was actually pretty ill last week with something that had all the symptoms, not clear whether it was covid-19 or not based on who I’ve talked to), but rather the hysteria this has caused in society. I had a breakdown-of-sorts a few months ago, with excessive worrying being a key factor. Seeing the likes of Piers Morgan drumming up more and more panic, and people buying into it, is making my recovery a bit more difficult than I’d like to admit.

I wish I was like most and not in a constant state of panic

Didn’t sleep a lot and first thing I thought as I woke at 5:30am is corvid!

However much u don’t want to get sick. The more I isolate, the longer I stay well the longer there is to catch it

And gov say you WILL get it

Eventually

I’m also more worried as I don’t want my family and friends to die.

:(

I totally agree. The lurgy doesn't worry me, its the Threads style chaos we are already seeing.

I'm currently waiting for the email that tells me all my sport-based gigs are cancelled. At that point I have no reason to stay in London.

I've been trying to convince my mrs and current houseguest that we really should start making plans to bug out to his place in Wales, just in case... I can't even convince them to stop laughing at me. Houseguest is more concerned about the value of his bitcoin, and mrs is more comcerned about cancelled girl guide camps! For Wardley's sake, get some perspective!

Everyone needs to relax. If you are in one of the most at risks groups then isolate. If not then you have to go about your business. If you are worried about parents and grandparents then don't go see them if you can help it. Phones still working etc.

We will get through this guys.
