[2024] Nemesis Reborn: Construction and Speculation

Fully agree that it is not the Merlin modus operandi to spend huge sums replacing a ride like-for-like. Whilst Nemesis is a fantastic ride, I would bet a lot of the general public see it as getting old. Towers / Merlin marketing would struggle to find a way to market "new Nemesis". Nemesis backwards would be way too intense for most riders - the strain on their necks would be pretty intense. The only real change that has happened to Nemesis since it opened was the new logo in an attempt to boost merchandise sales & the theming around the ride has been left to rot. Towers Loving Care did a good job on restoring the station monster, but we all know this should have been routine maintenance.

Of course, a ride can be rebuilt like-for-like - Hulk at IoA. The big difference is the operating budgets at play. Universal have large sums at their disposal (well they did pre-Covid!), Merlin by contrast give their RTP's way smaller budgets for a new ride.
Plus money is worth a lot less these days. Nemesis cost £10 million in 1994, and that sum would be a lot bigger in today's money.

If there was any ride I think Merlin would stump up the cash to entirely re-track I think it would be Nemesis. Not to say it would happen, just more likely to happen than other rides. The exception to the rule lets say.

The apparent personal connection it has with Nick Varney may well help matters too.

I love Nemesis to bits, but i think some of it's problem is where it is.

I mean, you've got the two most popular rides (Wicker Man and The Smiler) on either side of the lake not far from the Park Entrance. Forbidden Vallet is quite a trek, on some visits to the park i've not even been to that bit of the park, even though i know where it is. Some newbies may never get past the central part of the park.

Know your history!
Back in the day...Corkscrew, Oblivion and Nemesis spread the massive crowds right across the park.

I don't believe re-marketing Nemesis would be a huge issue. Keep it closed for 1-2 seasons for the refurb, give the area and theming a good clean/fix, add some new theming, rename it 'Nemesis: Reborn' (or something along those lines). If really desirable add some gimmick like backwards trains. Make a huge fuss of it being 'NEW FOR [inset year here]' and job done.

It would be cheaper than adding a new coaster entirely and if any ride at Towers would be likely to get such a huge refurbishment, it's Nemesis.

It's not like Towers have ever repainted/refurbished/rethemed rides and advertised them as new. Admittedly what we're discussing would be at a larger scale, however I don't think it's beyond the realms of possibility.

Sisemen. New for 2025

Sisemen, new for 2025.

All these ideas sound confusing and awful! And when they tried similar gimmicks with VR on Air and backwards on The Swarm they failed badly.

I never understand why Nemesis gets discussed as if its about to die every year anyway, there’s almost no suggestion of that happening

The 2 main problems I'm lead to believe are the supports around the loop (which they replaced at least one of a few years back) and the trains. Can't see it being an issue getting replacement trains, B&M have the plans so it's how much Towers would pay for a pair of new trains.

For some of us, The Swarm backwards actually made the ride exciting. But agree about VR that was a gimmick just to give Towers a “worlds first” which fell away very quickly
