Young people who are fit aren't getting the vaccine though.

Yes they are, as reported on ITV news at Ten a few nights ago. GP's has been warned that they should stick to the priority groups

Yup, been lots of people in the big papers who simply got lucky.
The bad weather meant quite a large number of locals near me got the vaccine because they could get into town in the snow that afternoon.
No problem with it, better than it being thrown away.
What concerns me more is uptake as low as 20% in some areas.

I get the notion of that it is better to give any surplus vaccine to someone as appose to throwing it away, but why don't they call someone on the priority list that has yet to be contacted as appose to give it to someone who is fit and healthy in there early 20's?

If they were to give Jess a call, we will certainly be down the vaccine centre like a shot.

I believe the reasoning is that those on the priority list may in theory not be able to respond to such a call fast enough.

Have you chased the fact that Jess hasn't been called for the vaccine with anyone? If she's on a priority list that's already been processed, then clearly something has gone wrong, and it should be flagged.

Of course, it shouldn't have to be flagged - hence something has in your case clearly gone very wrong, which sucks. But given the vaccine rollout as a whole has, thus far, been a phenomenal success, thankfully the admittedly crap situation you appear to be in is clearly in the minority.

Needs to be flagged and resolved so that you can both have at least some prospect of a return to 'normal' life.

Roy, you definitely should be getting in touch with whoever is in charge of the vaccine rollout in your area. Surely they can't be vaccinating young physically fit people just because they're on the autistic spectrum but then not offering it to Jess? They've either forgotten to get in touch with yourselves or you need to take this up with your MP or local news as from what you've said Jess's condition is rare and even though they're probably sticking to big bulk groups at the moment I'm sure they could make a special exception for Jess if you made the right people aware.

The local vaccination centre run by the local hospital has a spare call list. Open to care sector workers, active St John members, anyone who is a carer for someone who is entitled to the vaccine.

As for Jess not having the vaccination yet. It does need raising. The system is running well, however there are glitches in it.

Thanks for the advice. Yes we've contacted both out GP and local MP. Just got an automatic email from the MP saying that they recived our email and will reply shortly, but no other reply, this was over a week ago. Our GP surgery replied confirming the removal of the housebound icon and that they were rolling out the vaccine in turn and that we should wait for Jess invitation. They never clarify whether Jess would be on the priority list or not. Considering that they are still rolling out those in groups 5 to 9, we are going to wait until mid April before we hassle them again.

Small altercation this morning with a young man slightly worse for drink or drugs in a petrol station, no mask or consideration for others, ended up with him walking into my fist.
Police seemed quite happy when I explained he came at me with an aggressive manor so I dropped him, COVID fine issues to him as well so result all around.
Lesson to be learned here is don’t mess with large balding 40 somethings when the pub is shut, we are all a bit touchy right now.

You sound like a lovely bloke.

Two wrongs don't make a right.

Doubt it even happened.

Another huge drop in the cases and deaths reported today. Cases almost half on last Monday, and deaths roughly 40% down. Perhaps the vaccine is now properly coming into play, and with spring arriving the cases could continue to plummet. If this continues will the roadmap appear unnecessarily cautious?

It almost totally vanished during July to October. Cases in the UK were very low in some places during that time and I think we even had odd few days go by where nobody died from it at all. Then it all kicked off again in the October.

This thing is seasonal for sure. More deadly than the flu and more contagious yet still behaves like a seasonal virus. We didn't have a vaccine to combat it in July last year either yet cases still dropped to almost zero for a short while.

I'm hopeful we're nearing the end of Lockdowns and social distancing but I don't think Covid is going to go away entirely. We just will hopefully not have to worry if we catch it after we're all jabbed.

Also in the summer people were meeting up outdoors, then the change in weather and people are indoors without adequate ventilation. Its speculated that the Eat Out to Help Out scheme actually made people go back to indoor dining too quickly as well causing the rise in cases to restart.

I believe vitamin D has a part to play too. People cooped up indoors and little to no sunlight to provide the natural vitamin D that the immune system craves.

For the pennies that vitamin D supplements cost and the fact they're perfectly safe when correct dosage is taken then what's the harm? I've been taking supplements for months now and I haven't had as much as a sniffle this winter though social distancing, masks and increased hand washing etc would play a part in that too.

It’s also worth remembering that treatments should be coming online at some point this year, so even if you’ve been vaccinated and do get it (no vaccine is 100% effective), you should be able to get a drug or some form of other treatment that prevents you from developing severe symptoms and going to hospital.

It’s not people getting it that the government is worried about. It’s the hospitalisations, deaths and ensuing pressure on the NHS that this leads to without effective intervention (e.g. vaccines) that the government is worried about.

Absolutely and a great point to raise :) There's large amounts of evidence to support Vitamin D helps respiratory illnesses which is also extends to COVID. However people should be aware it's easy to get too much Vitamin D from supplements so definitely speak to your doctor before slamming down Vitamin D. Certain illnesses can cause you to not absorb anything from supplements (Diabetes, Liver/Kidney problems, etc..) Certain skin types may also need a boost from being cooped up over the winter too.

Oily fish is a really great source but nothing beats being outside.

I had issues with my Vitamin D levels post covid infection and after having my levels checked, I have a daily Vitamin D, B6, K (with magnesium) and the occasionally B12 that's helped significantly with my energy levels with long covid.
