London Entertainment Resort: All Discussion

Really seems like nimbyism writ large this. The London Resort has been in 'planning' for nearly a decade but only when they seem to be taking the project forward with planning permission when the wildlife group could've lodged this SSI at any time they wanted.
 
The BBC is now being strongly encouraged to back away from the London Resort due to environmental concerns surrounding the project; a petition encouraging the BBC to withdraw its involvement from the project has now racked up over 2,000 signatures: https://www.kentonline.co.uk/dartford/news/bbc-urged-to-scrap-theme-park-plans-245376/

Oh dear... could the SSSI designation and ensuing environmental issues scupper the project, or do we think that PY Gerbeau and the team will find a way around them?

2,000 signatures is still a fairly significant number, though. Will it be enough to stall the project, though? I’m not sure; I seem to remember the petition to remove The Smiler getting somewhere around 2,000 signatures or more, and that ride still operates happily 5 years on from said petition.

However, I do have my concerns that the upcoming planning process could be somewhat choppy...
 
The Borough of Dartford where the park is planned to be has a population of 113,000
So if the petition is mostly being signed by people there then that's about 1.8%.

No. BBC Studios is the commercial arm of the BBC and isn’t answerable to licence fee payers (i.e. the majority of signatories) in the same way the publicly-funded arm of the corporation is; it can do what it wants, so a 2,000 signature petition will do diddly squat - particularly when the final outcome of whatever planning changes need to be made as a result of the wildlife designation isn’t known.

When the project inevitably falls over, this will be a mere footnote in a much wider sorry saga.
 
Interestingly , new concept art had been posted today featuring one of the proposed lands for the Theme Park . It seems like a knock or Jurassic Park concept , but maybe an IP will be attached in the future ?

The most interesting part of this concept art is it very clearly shows two Vekoma models - a launched flyer and a Junior Boomerang

Does anybody else find it irritating how the press keep calling it the "UK Disneyland"? It's nothing to do with Disney :rolleyes:

Constantly using terms like that only serve to confuse the general public (perhaps done cynically to give it a whiff of credibility...)

It's the press calling it that, the 'London Resort' have even distanced themselves from it being called that in the past.

They quoted Daily Mails "UK Disneyland" yesterday, twice, in a tweet.
That ain't distancing!
