Thorpe Park: General Discussion

I had no bag and went straight into the park. The bag checking queue was horrific. The worst thing was holding us in the usual walk ways inside the park. Surely if they'd just let us all in before the rides opened we would have more space to move around. But instead, queues back to the dome all crammed in together.

Saw down for a huge proportion of the day. Colossus had 130 min queue at one point. Queue lines were not closed when at capacity, they just allowed queues to build up numerous times around ride entrances on the walkways.

Edit: Ride despatches seemed inexplicably slow as well. Not to do with cleaning, SD or anything like that, just slow. Loads of stacking

I think Merlin need to get there dispatch sorted. I know they don’t care, you’re already in the park and paid!

Examples this week
The 3 fairground rides added to towers, my god please get some training from the showman you’re hiring it from!!! It’s painful watching loading and unloading.

Thorpe
Detonator went for clean down(ok understandable) 1 op left to clean whilst the other 2 ops were in the cabin watching lol.

Chessington
Monkey swinger
1 staff for the whole load/unload/operation
Crazy

Wow. Of course ther is individual responsibility for social distancing but in this case it appears to me that Thorpe simply do not have adequate measures to facilitate social distancing. If that is going to be the scene on a daily basis then they either need a more suitable queueing area or are going to have to bring in staggered arrival times.

I'd imagine the local authority officers will have a heart attack if they see this!

Those entrance queues have been a problem for as long as I can remember at Thorpe. Got there at 12pm in the summer a few years back and turned straight back around and went to Windsor for the day instead.

At the moment though I'd assume it's mainly due to the heightened security measures in place since the stabbing incident.

The entrance plaza at ATR has been a dream compared to the above

I assume Alton Towers don't have knife arches and cocentrate on bag checks as much? Alton are mainly doing covid related checks at the entrance, whereas Thorpe have a stabbing issue but trying to check thousands of people within the first hour of the day needs proper resourcing.

No one was checking if the arch beeped.

Check 1 before merge was temperature check
Check 2 after merge was the arch - just walk through no checking if bleeped
Check 3 bag search(the quickest one out of all 3 parks this week)

Check 4 auto turnstiles annual pass(not asked for prebook)

The bag check with all security in place was at 6 ppl checking, 3 on each filter lane. I did see that 2 on one side for a short time. Crazy

I’m going back into lockdown self isolation and not interacting again!!!

I was going to take a picture and post it of the pathways inside the park as it looked identical to this but since I was in the middle of it all I thought I'd look weird doing so.

The floor markings were clear and there were announcements but Thorpe didn't help themselves. The beginning of the day was just carnage and I got the feeling that staff had just given up with ride queue lines.

Hahaha.
You just can't escape coasters can you.
Coming back from the weeks shop, Radio 2 news at 11...major congestion around the M25 to the west apparently...big queues all the way to a theme park in the area!

A zoom in on the restriction board at the entrance to Black Mirror seems to show:

- Attraction only suitable for over 13s
- No live actors
- T&Cs must be signed before entering? (Not sure if this one is ‘real’ or if it just part of the theme?)

This sounds like that time they said people riding Thirteen would have to sign a waiver.
I think either they are going to make a publicity stunt out of this again or they are actually going to use this as part of the attraction (I don't know much about Black Mirror but I've been told it's quite dystopian and perhaps Orwellian).

I would assume from the description of taking names and deleting data after 30 minutes, they are using names and images somewhere in the attraction to produce an effect or situation. Or maybe ET just reads everyone's name out at the end?

It could in theory be about how they are using the photos?

That was a publicity stunt long before the ride opened, it never appeared on the attraction restriction board. This is on the board and not been used in marketing so surely it is going to be part of the attraction. I imagine it'll just personalise some of the effects, like a modern day ET.

It's a bloody mirror maze for goodness sake, a British pier/fairground staple! I'm sure it has bells and whistles being in Thorpe but those restrictions just sound nonsense nonetheless.

Given how Thorpe turned an indoor family coaster into a bizarre scare attraction with live actors, rather gruesome scenery and rather loud annoying sound effects, I can see how they are going to do something similar with a mirror maze.
