Food & Beverage 2021

The Mexican place in Mutiny Bay was my go-to until they radically reduced the menu. After that was the pasty place in Mutiny Bay before that closed as well. Just a little more variety would be a start. Something like Subway would be a decent idea.

Yes hadn't thought of that. That would be a great idea and something that would have wide appeal.

The Mexican place was decent from what I remember- did they also do Nachos in FV too?
I reckon a small coffee shop in fountains square would be good - dream would be an independent but realistically it would be a Costa/ Starbucks I guess.

I can't find any evidence of a fish and chips shop in Mutiny Bay however the Coffee Lounge in Forbidden Valley used to be a fish and chips shop.
Just remembered I was thinking of Drayton Manor and there pirate area that has a chip shop. But mutiny bay has a few outlets already so maybe a chip shop in forbidden valley again? I can't really believe towers haven't got one.

The only place I eat at the moment in the park is Woodcutters where at least the food is cooked to order. Otherwise I might get a toastie in Costa

Whilst I am not the biggest fan of fish and chips on a day out personally, l understand I am perhaps in a minority.

One option for the Towers St restaurant would be to re-open it as a fish and chip location. They could run a takeaway from the current freestyle drinks area and then also have the restaurant section open on weekends and school holidays when there is more demand.

I think it’s a good location for this type of food as people are more likely to eat fish and chips at the end of the day compared to lunch time. Fish and chips followed by Nemesis perhaps doesn’t appeal. But sat on the lawns or in the restaurant before leaving is a better option.

A return to the park having a Mexican of some kind is a must, I feel.

I also feel they are missing a proper, sit-down Italian restaurant serving decent quality pizza and pasta. For me that would be the best use of the currently unoccupied Towers Street outlet.

Pasties ought to make a return in some form as well, even if they're being sold reheated from Corner Coffee.

Admittedly it’s buffet, which isn’t everyone’s thing in terms of “fine dining” (it certainly isn’t my thing, although I think I might be in a minority there), but doesn’t Pizza Pasta in Katanga Canyon fill this void already? I haven’t been there in years, but I remember the food being nice!

Personally, I’ve never really understood people’s issue with F&B at Towers. I admit I’m not really much of a foodie myself (I’m definitely more of a person who eats to live than a person who lives to eat), but my take is that as long as it tastes nice and fills a hole, which I think Towers’ food does, I don’t really have an issue with it. What is it people don’t like about Towers’ F&B options, as their F&B (and the F&B of UK parks in general) seems to get criticised a lot?

Although with that being said, we’ve taken our own packed lunch for the last couple of years, and I think that works better for us, personally.

Yeah I usually bring a packed lunch too, but if I do buy food it will be from Burger Kitchen. Those are the quickest options as obviously I want to focus on the rides. I don't really get why people would want to have a long lunch in a full sit-down restaurant when the ride queues are already really long. :p:confused:

I think some people do value food as a greater element of the theme park experience than you and I do. I’m not really a huge foodie or hugely into food myself, but I think some people are really quite big on their food and do like a sit-down meal as part of a theme park day.

Personally, the only place I’ve had a sit-down meal as part of a park day recently is Paultons, where we ate from the American diner in Tornado Springs (and very nice it was too!); we had no worries about ride count that day, because we got a new record high for me of 14 rides in, even though we didn’t exactly speed around from ride to ride!

Price, quality and lack of healthy options are the main issues as far as I'm concerned. The standard 'takeaway' offering of burgers, fried chicken and hot dogs feels really outdated and is lagging behind the rest of the leisure and entertainment industry.

The 'sit-down' offering is better in terms of quality and range but it is pretty expensive, capacity seems limited and service can be frustratingly slow. I don't always want to take the time out of the day, although it can sometimes be nice, especially when park hours are extended to 7pm or later. I imagine that for a lot of people lunch is a bigger deal and more a part of their day out than for us as well.

Personally, I reckon something like a tea room would work well in the gardens. I know a tea room wouldn’t serve “proper food” in quite the same vein as you guys are talking about, but I think afternoon tea in the gardens in one of the conservatories or the Swiss Cottage, as previously mentioned, could be a surprisingly big seller; many other stately homes with gardens serve afternoon tea, and it could increase traffic through the gardens!

Absolutely. Maybe not silver service but they definitely need a decent high quality restaurant and what better place or setting to have it than the Swiss Cottage.
I know mate...My tongue a bit in cheek.
I had a silver service meal in there the year the Corkscrew opened, with my mum.
Forty odd years ago now!
She then had a nice cream tea on the terrace later on, after we failed to find King Ina's rocks, while I went for a second dose of Corkscrew.
The food in there was great, as was the teashop railway carriage, that moved around a bit.
That did steaks, then cream teas and butties I think.
That was my mums other wait spot.
No reason at all to not do the same again, especially with all the staycationers.
Swiss Cottage meal as an evening stroll through fairylight gardens from the hotel...sounds good to me.
