Thorpe Park: General Discussion

I may have (ongoing?) Issues with security here at THORPE but oh my first aid are bloody fantastic.

They handled interacting with me as an AAC user brilliantly during a friends medical emergency last week and about an hour ago when I ended up overloaded and in autistic shutdown were great when I had ran then and asked to sit somewhere quiet.

The person at first aid did everything you should do when an autistic person is overloaded and in distress, they offered me somewhere quieter (then just first aid lobby), reduced number of people passing through by red carding the window (do not disturb), asked if I wanted the lights on or off and was writing their questions to Me.
Unlike the usual AAC=deaf assumption she mentioned later she was trying to avoid overloading me (can happen with vocal speech) and kept popping in to check it I was ok and trying to cheer me up.
*Edit also asked if I needed something and was watching for hand gestures after mistaking it for the sign for thanks grabbed me a bottle of water.

Absolutly textbook (written by an autistic not about) perfection.

How is it possible to ride Saw 50 times in a day?

Visited last Tuesday with @Poisson and a few others. The park was absolutely dead. We managed to cover every ride in the park even with on going availability issues.

Saw is great, but suffers the usual Gerst issue of some cars are fine and others make the ride completely unrideable. The indoor effects were on which was a surprise!

I’ve got to say, effects at Thorpe have been excellent recently; for instance, even though Inferno’s tunnel is said to be notoriously unreliable, it’s worked to full effect on my last 2 visits, and Swarm’s theming seems to have been emitting mist in places I never even knew it was supposed to!

I'm under the impression they switched off the water jet on SAW to avoid encouraging people to remove masks, so it makes sense it's on now.

Wow! Out of all the times I've been, I've only ever experienced that twice it's been that bad. Since it's only some orange lights and some smoke, I always put it down to them not bothering. When the tunnel is working, it's actually pretty neat as an effect of you dropping into the Volcano and much was made of this theme in Inferno's marketing. But twice out of dozens of rides is just crap. Most of the time it's been like going through a grim and dank maintenance shed for no particular reason.

Honestly, if you’d been with me on all of my 2021 Inferno rides, you’d have been very pleased; tons of mist in the tunnel, with all the lights also working! Not to mention, there was copious amounts of mist coming out of the misters by the station too! (On both my July visit and my September visit)

At this point THORPE should just turn it off. Its gotten worse since Monday where it was just lower left block.

Seemingly all the queue signs show

Check app.

Such as nemesis inferior, it's changed during the day today.

Has some sort of incident happened recently? A load of tweets have come through on my phone but I can't find what it's referring to?

Every Sunday at Fright Nights for as long as I can remember has been hell on earth. It attracts a certain travelling demographic.

Not been too bad Today with said mentioned lot, heck I had a legitimately delightful lot chatting with me and not being AAC=weird just.

They should change the name of it to 'Fight Nights' by the sounds of it :p
I jest but it's not been too bad, only saw the Island security manager in action mode 3 times so far, one was to photograph and eject a group a few days ago.

Thorpe was awful yesterday. Heard rumours 17,000 were allowed in, and no pass holder pre-book checks either.

The queue for Trailers, despite timeslots, filled the entire dedicated queue, and all the way back to Old Town Burger King. I don’t see the point in timeslots if the maths isn’t done to calculate how many people can, in theory, go through the attraction every 30 minutes to keep queues down.

Fastrack queues were the worst I’ve ever seen, with Inferno’s FT queue extending all the way back to the smoking area close to the Rapids. Same goes for SAW which had a full FT queue.

Lots of fighting, security all over the place, and to top it all off, a 2hr queue to get out of the car park, all because of the barriers. This led to lots of frustrated people blasting their horns.

An absolute disaster. I can oversee most of the issues with it being Half Term etc, but the car park queues could have easily been solved if Merlin weren’t so profit-obsessed.

This just seems like poor local management as opposed to anything Merlin specific. Take Fireworks at Alton Towers for example, they lift the barriers on those nights to focus on just getting traffic moving. In reality most people don’t know they won’t be asked for a ticket so they buy one anyway, therefore the money lost is probably small comparative to the better guest experience and the money saved on not having to pay staff to hang around for an extra couple of hours.

Nothing stops Thorpe doing this on capacity days like this weekend gone.

I visited on the 21st and I think there must have been an incident (of what nature I have no idea) as the whole area past the entrance to Colossus was closed from 7.30 ish onwards and whilst queueing for Colossus we saw quite a few security staff heading through Mawkin Meadow, which I was quite dissapointed with as I don't get to Thorpe as often as I'd like and wanted to go through Mawkin Meadow and have a night ride on Saw. I have to say though I was really impressed with the park's response - we noticed the scare zone was closed whilst queuing for Colossus, as we hadn't seen anyone go through it in a while, but a couple of the actors dressed as the crows came and interacted with people in the Colossus queue line at the point where they pass alongside each other which was nice to see.

After we rode Colossus we headed over there anyway to see if the zone would re-open, and there were a few staff members there telling people it was closed for the night, but they were very nice about it, having a bit of banter with guests and asking us 'were you looking for a ride? Or to get scared? In that case to this way to such and such instead'. Lastly as we headed the other way we saw that the crows actors had left the maze and were instead doing roaming scares instead of just giving up entirely, which was great to see.

Just thought this was good as obviously the park can't really help this kind of thing, and in my eyes they handled it really well.
