Paultons Park: General Discussion

Wow, a park that makes sensible business decisions. Can it be?

I also like that with the profits the park made it’s gone back into the park. Having all theses hotels within 30 miles of the park is a great deal for the park and the hotels as they know they got guests coming for a minimum of 2 days and the hotel chains know that there hotels are nearly sold out for the whole of the school holidays.

I can really see Paultons next major investment being a water ride to replace the current flume. Compared to the current offering of UK family water rides it’d be easy to build the best one whether it’s flume, rapids or coaster.

Also does anybody know the deal with the field to the south of Cobra? I’m guessing the park own it?

Very touchy subject.

They do own it, but the land where Cobra and Edge sit, isn’t within the ‘amusement park’ boundaries, so the park are very, very limited in terms of what they’re allowed to do on that land.

They didn’t know this at the time that Cobra and Edge got put in, and they’d never got planning permission to build those rides. It was on national news and they were actually ordered to pull down those two rides. They were even denied retrospective planning permission and their appeal was rejected.

It was only when the park re-submitted a new application with additional sound surveys that they were allowed to keep the rides.

So if you’re hoping for future development in the area near those rides, I really wouldn’t get too excited. The park were lucky to be allowed to keep Cobra and Edge after both rides being illegally installed, so they really won’t want to push their luck with that area anymore than they already have.

I do remember seeing it on the news but didn’t realise they had to fight that hard to get it overturned. You’d think the southern end of the park would have the least restrictions as it’s the furthest from residents & closet to the motorway.

This was basically how they eventually were able to keep those two rides. The park carried out noise surveys and proved that if they’d moved Cobra and Edge into the ‘amusement park’ section of their land, it would (ironically) have caused far more noise disturbance to the locals who kicked off about the planning issues in the first place.

Had our first ever visit to PP today.

Lovely little park, very nice indeed.

Cyclonator was very good and very intense

Overall good operations except for flight of the pterosaur which was painful to watch...very slow batching and despatch, was very annoying.

I think the park has a great future.

Cyclonator is indeed very intense! Such a good cycle, it’s just a little bit of a pity that the restraints can be quite uncomfortable on your shoulders if you are on the taller side. Interestingly though when I went on the ride back in April I was really enjoying the ride when I heard a massive clunk coming from behind my seat whilst it was swinging through the air mid-cycle, I absolutely bricked myself when it happened!

Yes, I remember that clunk as well! Disconcerting though it might sound, I think it must just be the ride changing speed or something…

Is it only me who didn’t especially enjoy Cyclonator? I found it a bit sickly for my own taste, and perhaps lacking in the floaty airtime I was looking forward to on each peak, but I admittedly don’t have the highest tolerance for spinning and intensity, particularly when it comes to repetitive motion of the type you get on flat rides. I just didn’t especially enjoy it at all, but I feel like I must have gone wrong somewhere, as everyone else loves gyroswings… weirdly, though, I didn’t enjoy Maelstrom at Drayton Manor either, so I’m not sure it was Cyclonator on its own that I didn’t like.

I also really didn’t like the OTSRs on Cyclonator, either, and I’m not even especially tall…

I’m pretty sure the clunk sound on Cyclonator is the restraint locking a bit further in place - it does it almost every time I ride it lol

It probably is indeed that but I think we are more accustomed to hearing a restraint locking down mid-ride as a ratcheting or clicking sound and so when we hear a clunk coming from somewhere behind us we can’t see we immediately think that the seat is about to fall off and fling us to our impending doom somewhere over in the middle of Peppa Pig Land.

Agreed, we were there in October last year for the halloween event. The park wasn't especially busy but the queue to get out of the car park was just miserable. Three car parks, including the staff car park, all converging to one exit. The park is doing great things and swiftly becoming one of the UK's top theme parks but they really need to sort out their traffic management before putting in any other new attractions.

(Sorry! I've only just read the other message linking the article) Haha.

Paultons Park is planning to build a new roundabout at the theme park's entrance, so hopefully, this will help reduce the traffic! 🤞
