Thorpe Park: General Discussion

Seems strange to be stubbornly clinging onto DBGT. Time to take the L and move on.

You could argue opening for 2 hours a day is better than not at all I guess but if they can't afford to run it properly it probably shouldn't be there.

Would like to see Storm Surge removed too, a complete eyesore.

Thats without the amount of water that comes out of it... it astounds me just how big a que storm surge gets...

I went to Thorpe today, and I had a nice time!

During my visit, I grabbed throughput timings from various different rides.

Coasters

  • Colossus (Theoretical: 1,300pph): 689pph (average of 4, 2 trains, taken from Rush's queue line), 437pph (average of 2, 2 trains, taken from Colossus' queue line)
  • Nemesis Inferno (Theoretical: 1,150pph): 831pph (average of 5, 2 trains)
  • Saw The Ride (Theoretical: 1,000pph): 363pph (average of 10 dual dispatches, 5 cars)
  • Stealth (Theoretical: 1,000pph): 796pph (average of 10, 2 trains)
  • The Swarm (Theoretical: 1,100pph): 905pph (average of 7, 2 trains)
Non-Coasters

  • Detonator (Theoretical: Unknown): 315pph (average of 3)
  • Rush (Theoretical: 960pph): 476pph (average of 5, 2 swings)
  • Tidal Wave (Theoretical: 1,800pph, did not ride): 471pph (average of 2, 2 boats, taken from Stealth's queue line)
I hope you find my timings interesting!

Something else I should mention is audio. Park audio at Thorpe seemed a little bit weird today, for numerous reasons. Some things I noticed included:
  • There was no audio playing at all in the entrance area, on the bridge or in the Dome. I did initially wonder if this was out of respect following the Queen's death, but the audio in the rest of the park suggested otherwise.
  • Swarm's area and station were very quiet, apart from the dispatch sound sequence. Speakers seemed to be playing a mix of the original area track and the 2021 area track.
  • Colossus/Lost City seemed to be alternating between the original track and the IMAScore track.
  • Both Inferno and Saw's station speakers now make a rather horrid crackling noise when certain sound effects play; on Inferno, it crackled when the dispatch track ended, and on Saw, it crackled after the alarm sound that begins Jigsaw's safety spiel and after the dispatch track ended.
  • Inferno's exterior queue didn't seem to have any audio at all.

How utterly dreadful
Are you talking about any particular figure, or are you just talking about all of them?

One thing I should add that I didn’t talk about yesterday was that Saw was being announced as being on “reduced capacity”, and appeared to be running only 5 cars; a car was having to wait outside the offload for a good 2 minutes until another car arrived, and the airgates couldn’t open for a good minute or so. The staff were as prompt as ever, but it seemed like they were having to wait a lot.

When I was at Thorpe the other week there the only part of the Swarm area that had the soundtrack playing and tvs on, was in the extended queue line which wasn’t open that day so it was playing to no one. Not sure what was going on there.

Inferno exterior music is working today. Even got a rare nonstack run on it.

SAW meanwhile is horrendous. Staff standing instead of batching, waiting for the trains to roll forward and stop before batching to bays

Is it still on “reduced capacity”? Yesterday, it was running 5 cars and getting about 350pph.

If it is on reduced capacity, then there will be considerable periods where the offload area is empty and a car is waiting outside of it.

The queue never dropped below an hour. Second time I rode the people I was batched with had waited 90 mins. I cruised up SRQ in under 10.

Colossus has gotten way worse. Nice to see it on 2 trains but oh wow it's BAD. Crashes into elements then pogo stick on the way out of them. Awful thing

Yeah saw has gotten better for me it's rough but it's not that bad I do enjoy it, but I genuinely see people coming off colossus holding their head in discomfort, this one woman had a migraine after and said it's the worst thing she's ever ridden, bumped into her 2 hours later and she was still in a bad way.

Those trains are awful, they cause unacceptably slow operations, a very painful ride experience and too tight for so many people, the ride would still be rough regardless but it could be much improved.

Health and Safety updates will have something to do with this.

Back in the 00s and early 2010 years, they’d regularly hit their target throughputs on most rides. Swarm and Inferno in particular would often exceed their capabilities. Since Smiler, throughputs have taken a back seat and this has filtered down to the front line staff.

Not true though is it? I have seen Swarm being operated properly, Ninferno didn't stack on one of my runs. They just don't care.
