Well that would explain why a park that should be all over launch technology only has one. The cost of upgrading the power infrastructure to the park would probably be astronomical too.

And the one launched coaster it does have draws so much power that it causes a small surge through all the nearby buildings every minute or so. I'm not technically minded enough to speak for it, but surely launch technology has improved massively since 2005. It seems to be an economical given for even smaller parks to install compact launch coasters over the past decade or so.

[Sorry for the long message in advance]
The issue with launched coasters nowadays is that yes, although they are more efficient, they have a much greater power spike. Rita gets away with it as the launch works on pressurising nitrogen gas in accumulators to pressurise hydraulic fluid, and the pressurised hydraulic fluid is then used to effective spin a big winch really fast, to put it rather crudely. Therefore, the main energy draw is spread out over the recharge time, which is roughly the time of the countdown, as the launch doesn't pressurise until the restraints are shut, and not fully until dispatch, spreading the current draw over quite a period of time. LSM launches however, which is basically the only launch available nowadays bar compressed air, draw all their current at once. The way they work is by creating a "standing wave" inn the magnets that matches the natural fields created by the permanent magnets on the train. this "standing wave" is then accelerated along the launch, and this carries the field of the train magnets and thus the train with it (massive oversimplification) however, you have a launch that takes 2 seconds, and all the launch energy needs to go in in those 2 seconds. This is the same energy as needed for Rita (assuming same accelerated mass and final velocity) but in a fraction of the time. To demonstrate, if we say we want to launch a 8000KG train from 0-20 m/s in 2 s, (using SI units cause I can't do the conversions) then we have and acceleration of 10m/s^2 and then we can substitute into F = M x A to get 80000 N. Now we now the force on the train, we can calculate the energy draw. If we assume the launch is 20m long for the values given, then energy = force x distance, so we get 1.6 million joules. On an LSM coaster, this has to be expended in the 2 seconds of the launch, leading to a draw of 800,000W! Spreading this out over 30 seconds on a hydraulic launch gives us 53,333W, which is much better. To sum it up, even though the tech is more efficient, the power problem still exists, and even then, this launch would only reach 45 MPH, so nowhere near Rita's consumption, or that of a multi launch.

It does make me wonder what they will actually do.

In GP terms...

We have a launch.
We have a flyer.
We have a suspended.
We have a drop track.
We have inversions.
We have a diver.
We have wood.

What is or could be out there that is different enough to warrant the investment from a commercial point of view?
Indoor would probably be the logical missing coaster now and there aren’t many in the UK now.

Surprised there hasn’t been any more hype around these models - they look amazing! Is it the cost of them?

I can't imagine they are cheap.
I also feel they would take up a lot of room and potentially be a maintenance nightmare

The recent markings near x-sector.. any links to SW9 or just general maintenance?

Energylandia would be a safe bet considering they build half of the new coasters in Europe these days.
Probably not Energylandia, they haven't worked with s&s as far as I know, they primarily work with Vekoma, who can sell RMCs to the European and Asian markets, which is the reason they built Zadra. I can honestly imagine that towers are going to build an Axis in the near future, however if the 2023 prediction is true then it definitely won't be either as Energylandia is building a tilt coaster for 2023 and Towers will be halfway through the Nemmy retrack.

I think it was a joke.

Just a note to say there is now a separate thread for discussion of the Upcoming Public Consultation for a new ride on the Alton Mouse site.

If discussing that consultation or any news to emerge from the exhibition, please post in the new thread. If the consultation does indeed turn out to be regarding SW9 we will likely close this thread, so we have a thread dedicated to the proposals for the Alton Mouse site.

Does anyone remember the "IPF"/"Intergalactic CC" from last year's Scarefest? They were roaming all over the resort. Now, it's been confirmed to me by a reliable source that they are not Phanalax related. Therefore, and I'm just putting this out there, could they be connected to SW9 and the first hint of it? Entirely possible.

Last year they were trying to get as many characters as possible out and about, we had the grave digger and the zombie dancers as well I think it was. They were quite literally limping to the end of the season last year rides wise, so having plenty of variations of on park street ents was probably to try and distract away from that. It's more just a case of they had some costumes available so went with the generic military theme for a few actors, don't think it's anything deeper than that.

Just for info, there were a couple of dark/witch themed actors roaming outside the arch from the chapel up towards Hex today. Looks like they've gone early with the actors.

Could they have been from the Dungeons? I think it’s so dead in there these days they have been sending actors out into the Hex area to wander round and drum up business.
