[2024] Nemesis Reborn: Construction and Speculation

I'm still hoping it's an undercoat and that they're gonna give it its final layer of paint on site... we were told the ride wouldn't change visually, its either that or we've been lied to :/
If it was being painted white like the old track then the undercoat/primer would be grey, not black. The undercoat is grey, so black is absolutely the final coat.

By visual changes, the planning application may have spoken in terms of the actual ride track not changing visually.

As long as it can’t be seen above the tree line and doesn’t make too much noise, I doubt the planners overly care whether Nemesis is painted white, black, bright pink, or any other colour.

Besides, any theming or colour changes are arguably quite immaterial in the grand scheme of things. The main thing that most people care about is the coaster itself, and that is staying exactly the same as it ever was.

OK. I think we've established that it might be black or it might not be black. Some people would like it to be black, others would not like it to be black, others can't make up their mind because it's either too hard of a decision or they don't really care. Pretty sure we don't need another 6 pages discussing it.

But what shade of black is it? What shade of black would people prefer?

Thing about with Merlin rides being all black, I wouldn't mind if there was a second colour such as the supports having another colour for example Smiler and Oblivion's supports being painted yellow and orange respectively for at least there would be a little bit more variety with colours.

If the track for Nemesis is black then fine, at least give the supports a different colour, maybe red so it's an inverse of Nemesis Inferno's colours, so that there is something different other than just all black.

I think the reason here people are against a black track colour is because, well most rides in the world use only one colour for their track, and mostly just primary colours. Nemesis didn't do that, the colour wasn't a singular texture and had many hints of different colours in there to make it look like dead skin, and i think it made the ride stick out from how different and unique it looked at the time. If they were to remove that aspect, it'll make quite a difference in the area as looks are always a first impression.

This is what can frustrate me about enthusiasts sometimes.

It's literally just track colour - we've already been told that the ride experience will remain exactly the same... so why do people care about the track colour so much? Granted, it might not be as pretty to look at for us enthusiasts, but for the vast majority of the general public I can guarantee you they couldn't care less what colour the track is... they just want to ride the damn ride.

Times change. This is exactly like people grasping onto false hope that the Duel re-theme is going to be a re-hash of the original Haunted House. Just leave it to the professionals who know what they're doing and stop judging an unfinished project so much. Wait until it's built, or in Nemesis' case re-assembled, and judge then.

People say ✨trust the process✨ for a reason, you know.
That's a bit harsh. All the reaction on the last few pages seems quite reasonable. Nemesis is the most iconic British coaster of all time, naturally there will be interest in any changes to the ride, no matter how big or small.

Personally I hope it is black. Merlin always want maximum return on investment with any project, a change of colour/theme makes sense so they can go all out with the Nemesis 2.0 marketing.

Interestingly, I’ve actually seen it suggested that red may be involved in the colour scheme as well. I’ve seen black track, red rails and grey supports suggested.

There would be some evidence to support this; if you remember back to Nemesis’ closing day, where the posters and wristbands had QR codes on them, these QR codes had colours in them… one of which was jet black, like this track is painted:

These RAL colours would suggest that “graphite black” and “ruby red” may also be involved in the ride’s new colour scheme in some capacity…

If they manage to bring back the blood river(s) without the environmental issues that it originally caused, (how would that be done?) I will be willing to compromise with black track. After all, people can get used to much starker changes than a rollercoaster's new track colour.

Ultimately, having Nemesis with black track is certainly a preferable option to having no Nemesis at all, in my view.

No Nemesis at all was certainly a possibility at one point (as per John Wardley, Merlin initially wanted to remove Nemesis), so I’m just glad that they chose to save it.

It's just a track. Who gives a damn what colour it is, really? It'll make a nice change from the last couple of decades anyway.
Yeah, I was getting bored of decent. When are they gonna paint the ruins lime green? That's literally stayed the same for AGES!!

I expect the usual overly defensive / overly protective split from online enthusiasts with all the Nemesis changes if they are along these lines. But I just wish the park would 'get' what Nemesis is? Turning down the chance to bring back the scenic look is a mistake if it's true.

This feels like Alton Towers' own Space Mountain Mission 2 so far.

It shows the 'brand marketing' mindset that's crept into everything. Brand is good and all, but Alton Towers is going more graphic design than scenic these days. I'd rather have an improved experience than your typical 'rebrand' exercise.

I still don't understand why they'd want to change the coasters look so drastically after so many years. They should freshen it up, definitely! But when it starts to lose its character, I think that's where it draws the line. I just hope I'm proven wrong on this, but look at the Inverts with Black Track, they don't really stick out much do they, then compare them to Nemmy... sorry, but personally there isn't much competition here. Don't get me wrong, Black Mambe looks great, but it just wouldn't suit Nemesis...d73i95c-95e5deed-078d-45b2-9704-2b553671e7b6.jpg

Nice to see the original logo. Do people want the return of this logo, the current logo to stay the same, or a brand-new logo?

Well I like both logos, but I much prefer the older one as it emphasised the Creatures uncontrollable nature. Either bring back the old Logo, or make a new logo with a uncontrolled look to it.

Don't really see how pointing out a frustration is harsh? At the end of the day people are getting their knickers in a twist over a potential (yet unconfirmed might I add) colour scheme for a rollercoaster.

It isn't confirmed and I see the dead cert posts are continuing into 2023.

Not that boring, bog standard black track would surprise me at all to suit their new copy and paste Sci Fi "sinister organisation" retheme. But I note that a frenzy of confirmations has ensued based on a sticker. A sticker I might add that no one has seen on any piece of black track (look again) or seen in person. Track that's currently on the other side of the world.
