Lightwater Valley

Interesting interview. As expected it's going to be an Evolution rather than a revolution at Lightwater which given the current economic climate is very sensible.

It will be interesting to see if they tray and get onsite accomodation, it's in a attractive location. Appreciate Mellors confirming traveling rides will be used to supplement the lineup, it's what I expected and once again very sensible. Best of luck to them

I think the telling part was he emphasised most people go for a single day trip out, however he also mentioned as the park grows. So I would take from that accommodation is on the radar, but only when they have enough attractions to justify it.

Building up slowly is definitely the sensible way forward and good to hear that he has the theming team on site already. When I was there last year the place is very scenic, which carries it somewhat but the theming element was lacking.

The potential that LWV has is huge for a number of different reasons, yes it’s a sorry state at the moment, but it is still my second favourite park for nostalgic reasons, behind towers. The layout, the scenery, the massive space there, it just needs a bit of love.

This year I would get the fairground rides in, then look to fill the rat building with a dark ride next year, and also put devils cascade back maybe next year or the following and build back from there.

Am I missing a link here - not seeing anything relating to said interview (unless I'm not seeing due to a blocker etc?). Thanks.

.... and also put devils cascade back maybe next year...

Please don't!
Probably one of the worst queues of my life...
Over an hour queueing with a thousand screaming kids, for a five second crappy thirty foot slow slide into a pool of green skanking water.

Probably the worst ride I have ever ridden.

Sooner ride Infusion in a hailstorm.

Seen in a couple of places people having issues with Lift Hills and Thrills, what's he said?

The interview is pretty much exactly what I hoped to hear, from understanding the gradual nature of the change, and building correctly - so many parks have gone to the wall (like the American adventure) by misunderstanding the balance between building things and building the right things.

There has to be reasons to go to the park beyond one signature ride, and I love the fact he cited Paultons as a baseplate - the Paultons of the North would be an outstanding option, and they can use what they have, an adaptable pricing structure, ride acumen and the sheer scope and beauty of the park to realise it.

I'm ridiculously excited.

James mentioned Bling in that video, which I think is probably a hint that it could show up at Lightwater Valley. I wonder if they might put Runaway Mine Train in there too. Those 2 along with Spinning Racer wouldn't be a bad start for them there for this season.
Hasn't Bling been on storage for some time or did it get a refurb?

If I was a betting man, I'd say the spinning coaster, runaway mine train, drop tower or star flyer, and a couple of smaller rides like a waltzer and another fairground style ride just to make an initial statement, and maybe justify having dual pricing like fantasy island has. It's not lost on me that over the years so many of the rides that LWV has had have been leased from Mellors.

I don't know the portfolio well enough to guess at what could go in, but as there is talk of a new ride going into fantasy island, I would wonder if that might be Eagles Claw.

If you can survive my monotone voice, just for fun I decided to start rebuilding Lightwater Valley in Planet Coaster 2, with a few ideas of what could potentially be done. It is literally just for fun and I realise nothing like this will happen, but it does give a good indication of what is possible long term if mellors get things right. I hope you enjoy. The scaling isn't perfect but pretty close to the actual park.

Do you do the Google Maps trick for sizing? Are custom billboards a thing in 2?

Unfortunately I have to use GeForce now as I use a Mac, which means I can’t use that trick or add custom music. The whole layout was done using nothing but Maps on one monitor and the game on another, and a ruler to check sizing

Custom billboards are a thing, however once again with GeForce Now I can’t use them till they release the Mac version which will probably be in about 5 years time!
