Fantasy Island, Skegness, England

The last time I went in October you bought a wristband to ride everything as much as you liked?

Top tip always try and find a copy of the local paper which seems to have a bogof voucher for wristbands in a lot of the time.

As for the market trading standards do have crack downs but it clearly makes little difference.
 
So so so much potential, the only problem is transportation (no motorways), as if an Investor came in a bought out a few of those caravan sights surrounding the park they'd have so much space it's not even funny.
 
Looks like a good park in general. To those who have been do you think it has potential as a park if it gets major backing from a large organisation
 
Fantasy Island has always been one of my favourite places to visit. The rides that they have there are a good mix of thrills and family stuff so there's something for everyone.

As regards the market, I believe it to be a bit of a catch 22, in that if it was removed I don't think the park would get enough guests to invest in the new land with rides and attractions. If it stays then it makes the area look tacky, prevents large future expansion but it will keep a lot of people in employment.

I'd like to see them try and buy some of the land and build a holiday village with a large indoors waterpark, similar to Butlins, but with Butlins in such close proximity I can't see it happening.

Fantasy Island really is a head ache when you think about it, but nowhere apart from Thorpe Park has such a decent skyline! At least they have 'The Beast' which makes Samurai seem as thrilling as Wobble World.

Am I right in thinking they own a largish caravan site directly next door to the park?
I agree with those that say Fantasy Island has alot of potential - it's just a shame I can't see it living up to it anytime soon unfortunately.

The sad thing about Fantasy Island and Lightwater Valley is that the potential of those two parks, primarily because of almost unlimited space (in comparison) with two major headline rides and a couple of good support rides, but they just can't seem to get enough momentum behind them to allow either of them to pull a Nemesis/Vampire to get the parks flying (granted missmanagement has completely messed up Chessington). However I will say that the future for Fantasy Island IS slightly brighter as their next move would be to build a woodie, which are less expensive than a Steel multilooper like LWV needs.

I think they might own a couple of the caravan sights, but I'm not entirely sure. The biggest problem they have though is just the fact that it's a bitch to get too, there isn't a massive population close by, and it's not in the middle of the country like Alton is.

^^ If only they would. I don't think Fantasy Island will change anything now, it's bedded in and well known for what it does/offers and they seem to be getting plenty of trade. If anything I can see the market expanding even further and the ride count shrinking. :(

Definite improvement, I think we'd all agree. Now they just need to get their rides actually running most days!
 
Places like Fantasy Island and Flamingoland have often made we wonder why Merlin are so desperate to include the word "resort" in all their parks. When anyone talks about a UK resort I always think of somewhere like FI rather from a premium destination.

Activities at night doesn't instantly brand something as a resort..

Here is a definition:

a place to which many people go for recreation, rest etc.

Where as Towers and Fantasy Island both are a place for recreation the thing that screams resort to me is a hotel where there is lack of at Fantasy Island, a few in the local area but none at Fantasy island itself.

Where as Towers has 2, one with a Waterpark and one with a Spa, There is the relaxation / rest aspect. The term resort is the most convoluted term in the history of theme parks but to me, resort means..

Somewhere where you can spend 2 days or more doing different activities, Take towers for example:

Day 1: Park (May only do half of rides due to busy day)
Day 2: Waterpark / Spa
Day 3: Park (Finish where you left off)

Where as Fantasy Island:

Day 1: Park...
Day 2: ???

Unless there plan is to make it a two day park by only opening half the rides each day...
 
Fantasy Island has everything under any definition of a resort. You're obviously not familiar with it.

I am familiar with it... Just to me it doesn't deem worth of the resort title...

Okay, ill be reasonable and say yes, it may be a two day park (although most of my visits deem it not to be so)...

I just don't agree with you saying that Fantasy Island deserves the resort title more than Towers, that just doesn't make sense to me.
 
The word "resort" for me always conjures up images of tacky seaside hotels.

That's why I hate how they always insist on sticking it on the end of Alton Towers.
 
The actual area has more to do,

10 pin bowling
The beach
Amusements
The market
Pubs and restaurants

I'm not saying these are better or world class but they all add to the term resort whilst your there
