2014: General Discussion

Wasn't' sure where to put this, but regardless it still gave me a giggle. According to Facebook, Thirteen has a staggering top speed of 24mph! Verbolten and Polar Xplorer also don't appear to exist.

... slightly less of a huge mistake, but according to this Rita die-cast model you are catapulted to only 42mph!

More importantly the piece of merch has a glaring spelling error in 'Forrest'

It boggles the mind that they actually commission these things with incorrect information and spelling errors. How do they not even have a spellchecker?

You would have thought that English was the park's second language... Efteling have better English grammar and spelling and that's located in the Netherlands.

I get the impression that the Dutch are born able to speak perfect English.

I still love they way AT put ride speeds in Kph when we are in a country that uses Mph for road speeds.

I think they should use feet for distance.
height of drop 65 foot
track length 2480 foot

that more impressive than
height of drop 20 metres
track length 756 metres

I should be in marketing ;)

Smaller drops are in meters because when you stack them up in feet, they're directly comparable to the big rides. Stealth, The Big One etc, always marketed in feet.

Same reason they use kph not mph - makes the rides sound quicker

Not that much if a 67mph ride is marketed as 67kph ride if they notice the kmh a lot of people will think its slow if they only glance, however it was good marketing for them in the Rita adverts saying 0-100 without saying whether it was mph or kmh a lot of people at thorpe park say this seems faster than Rita but rita goes at 100. It really depends whether they notice the mph or kph

The thing is, it's not even a 67mph ride - it's 61mph. So where they've even produced that figure from I've no idea. :p

Does it say 67mph on the top trumps as well, I knew it was 61mph, but I played the top trumps earlier, so many mistakes in it I scribbled them out and started putting the correct stats in, got to admit it does sound more impressive on any number that is higher than the five than if it is under the five, they probably did it to get more people to think it goes on the higher side,to a lot of people 66 sounds better than 64

Yes but a 67mph ride wouldn't be marketed as 67kph - it would be marketed as 107kph since that is what the number translates to... Which was my point entirely.

107kph would sound far more impressive. Weird they take the mph reading and don't convert it. But then I guess they know generally members of the public don't notice anyway. They just see a big number and go back to friends "oh ma gawd the rita goes like 100 miles an hour, i nearly fell off ma seat and diedddd!!!!!!".

Earlier in the season they claimed that Nemesis had a top speed of 110km/h which it doesn't. Lazy errors like this and poor spelling really annoy me and it seems to be happening more and more at Towers. Severe lack of professionalism.

:)

Well aside from anything else it's actually misrepresentation, is it not? Making out your product is something it isn't?

OK, it's not serious and that is admittedly probably pushing it a little, but at best the poor grammar, products, and "exaggeration" about their products is at best diabolically unprofessional for the UK's signature park. Which we all know Merlin doesn't treat it as.

I can imagine anyone of us as managers at the park, seeing poor quality/researched/advertised material would be demanding serious improvements because it really is bad to be this widespread.

To be marketing your coasters as considerably slower than they actually are just makes no sense. You wonder who is signing this material off. It just suggests that there are people who don't have a clue about the park!

:)
