Galactica: General Discussion

The restaurant is worth the investment in the long run, it will no doubt stay on the resort for many many years. The VR, not so much, I'd be surprised if it makes it past 2017.

Likewise, I will be surprised if GalacticAir is still there next year. £3m - just think, £1m to improve the themeing around Air, £1m to introduce a new flat ride in the place of Ripsaw, and £1m to umm..... fill in the pot holes along the roads in the resort!!!

After getting to experience galatica for the first time I must say I agree with my original thoughts. It's rubbish.

The throughput is dire, the headsets are uncomfortable and no matter how I tightend the headset I still had to hold it on all the way round, I could never get my headset to focus, the headsets stank and it was all over far too quickly!

Won't be rushing back to ride this.

That £3 million probably includes the license from Mack, along with the advertising budget

I've rode Galatica several times now and the only time I didn't enjoy it was when I couldn't get my headset focus. Whenever I read reviews on the ride, those that get the headset in focus gives it the thumbs up, and those that don't get the headset in focus, gives it the thumbs down.

To get the head set focus, first position it on the face until you can get the best image possible and also to get the head set comfortable. Then turn the wheel on top very slowly as it is very sensitive.

As for holding the head set in place/still as you go around, this is something that I do and would recommend to stop the image shaking all over the place!

Like I've said in a previous post, I was never a fan of Air and it is a coaster that I never really bother riding it. However I do prefer Galatica to Air, but still not my favourite coaster on the park!

Bring back "The Black Hole" :)

Galactica is having a trial opening until 8pm tonight, with the launch of the rollercoaster restaurant!
I've just seen that on Facebook! Great decision in my opinion! Let's hope it's successful in drawing in restaurant and hotel guests and continues!

It wasn't very busy ! I got there at 730pm and walked straight on ! There were about 10 others on the train and when we got off no one in the station to get back on.

Finally got my first rides on it yesterday and today.

Hahahahahaha it's so awful oh my god, I had low expectations and it didn't even meet them.

The new lighting, theming, entrance etc all look great, the extentions to the station actually fit in and mostly look like they belong and were there all along, which impressed me and made the ride feel more than just Air with a new look. The new station is nice but I'm not wild for the music, I much preferred Air's music.

First time I rode, my headset didn't work, so it was pitch black the whole way around, which just made me ill, but I think I might have accidentally turned the headset off so it was my own fault, although it's a stupid design flaw and something I wasn't aware of.

Second time, I couldn't get it to focus particularly well, but well enough for it to work. It starts off well, the picture isn't pixilated, and although I'd prefer if they tried to make it look more real and less like a 00's CGI film I thought up until you enter the first 'world' it was impressive, there's genuine depth of field and you don't feel like you're on Air. The launch scene is good and I love the way they integrated the fly-to-lie to transition to the first world through the portal.

After that though it becomes a massive disappointment, just feels like you're watching a screen, like a simulator with wind, and the video seemed rushed, the jumping locations mean you can't get immersed in the world and the finale completely failed to create a sense of danger of excitement, it doesn't fit on a ride like this, it's too graceful and swoopy.

Well I gave it a go, but unfortunately it really isn't for me, had low expectations and it really was everything I worried it would be after the first 30 seconds. I can't see VR lasting and I hope it doesn't. Oh well, hope other people enjoy it more than me.

I got to ride Air today (Galactica with no headset), and I really enjoyed it, was so much better than Galactica. I had two first time riders with me, they both had problems with the headset fitting around their heads, and it made one feel sick!

I went on Galactica twice over the weekend. The added theming looks great. As with Martin, the music is good, but I do prefer Air's original music. As for the VR? Oh dear. A disappointment. On both occasions, I couldn't get it to focus properly, though when the ride got going, but it wasn't too bad in terms of quality. The head strap was a bit loose, no matter how tight I had it, so I had to hold onto both sides of the headset to ensure it didn't fall off, which was annoying. The visuals themselves were fine, though I didn't feel there was enough time to fully appreciate each scene before moving onto the next one. It also made the ride feel shorter. When I rode it for the second time, the visuals were at a completely different angle to what I expected - they were all off to one side, no matter where I looked, and I had no chance to ask for them to be sorted before riding. Because of this, I felt as though I was going sideways for the entire duration of the ride, which was extremely disconcerting, and made me feel a bit ill! In hindsight, I should've removed the headset at the top of the lift hill. Overall, it's a good concept, but for me, it ultimately fails to deliver what it should've. I don't really think I can see it lasting more than a couple of seasons.
