Can understand the lack of air con in County Hall (they don't own it after all), but surely they own the buildings for the various Sea-Lifes and could implement to ensure an extra positive for the guest experience?

I mean cos Sea-Life London is awfully hot most days, and the 4D Eye Cinema is similarly so...

I suspect that even if they think there is perhaps a case for AC in some buildings where they have the ability to install it, the numbers won't work given the comparatively small revenue of those locations vs the cost of installation (with new insulation often required) and the ongoing cost of running and maintaining it.

Well, a few years back, they made a stupidly big deal out of adding spider crabs in Sharkbait Reef. It was pretty much the only "new" thing in the whole park that year.
I think they lasted about three months.

I find it hard to believe that they died, isn't it more likely they were transported?

Terrible if they did die, although most SEA LIFE centres are not accredited so you have no guarantees of animal welfare. I am always very skeptical of non accredited facilities.

Nope, they all died. (Can't remember how many they had to begin with, probably only two or three). I'm sure someone round here will remember more details than I can.

Spider crabs like other crabs go through a moult, when they do, there bodies are soft for the first 24 hours or so before the new outer shell hardens again. After their moult, they are easy pray, so they usually go and hide.

With the lack of hiding places in the tank, the other spider crabs took advantage of getting them self a meal by eating the freshly moulted spider crab as their body was soft and had no hard shell to protect them.

It's not just the Theme Parks suffering.

Our local sealife and was one of our favourite has gone down hill this season, some of the aquarium tanks are so old, they are cracking, so the displays have been removed. The sealife is now looking a bit bare and not much to see for your money. Merlin budget won't stretch to replace them. One tank has been replaced with a bench. They won't even provide a budget to install aircon in the building, Merlin excuse is that the building is too small for aircon to work, despite aircon works perfectly in larger supermarkets.
Is this Sealife Hunstanton by any chance? The additions in the past two years are laughable, they litterally brought some reptiles from the RSPCA and covered a classroom in vinyl imagery and called it a 'new' addition then this year they made the Penguin enclosure smaller by adding a viewing deck and marketed it as 'new'.

Oh and Sealife Blackpool's addition this year was some IQ sensor plastic turtles with iPads and a conveyer belt and the funny thing was that the conveyer belt was installed the wrong way so it was broken from day one!

Honestly some of Merlin's additions are great (Wicker Man, Cbeebies etc) but others are absolutely pants!

I'd rather have decent additions every few years at some of the midways than tiny additions that are worthless in the long term every year.
